Happy Halloween from all of us at WAH!

Be sure to keep your animals from joining the trick or treaters through a door left open too long. And don’t forget to save the good chocolate for the moms (and not the dog!).

But most of all, have fun dressing up your pets. It’s the best part of Halloween!!!

This past week was national veterinary technicians week. Our LVTs have college degrees that give them the clinical skills to help aid in the health and happiness of our patients.

They also possess the ability to help answer questions, trouble shoot tech issues, and navigate the complex veterinary world of getting things done in an efficient manner.

Their abilities are great. But what we value even more is the connection they cultivate with clients and patients. Our techs are our vet’s right hands. They are the soothers, the cuddlers, the “wait a second let’s find a solution” diplomats.

And for that, we can all be grateful. Many smart humans can be trained to put an IV in or run an anesthesia protocol. But not all people would care as much as our excellent LVTs.

Hugs to them! NE, KS, AF, MS, EH, MM, AK, SS, MP, and AZ- we appreciate you all!

Yay happy update in comments below!

Help us keep an eye out for one of our patients who went missing in Walworth. She will be very scared being away from her owners.

Fingers crossed for a safe return!

**Update**
Maggie is back home safe and sound.

**Lost Dog**

Maggie went missing from the area of Ontario Center Road and Eddy Road, Walworth, NY, on 10/12/2024. Maggie went missing wearing a collar and she is microchipped.

The phone lines are down again despite Verizon fixing something down the street on Friday that required a new part. We’ve called Verizon repeatedly and they state they will get someone out here between 11-3 pm.

You can imagine our frustration. But we will be patient and ask that you contact us via options listed below if you encounter a prolonged busy signal.

You can email reception@walworthanimalhospital for medication refill requests or appt questions. You can also text message our staff via the PetPage app located in our front screen on our website www.walworthanimalhospital.com.

Here’s hoping the 4th time this year is the charm ;)

Update: This cat has been found (thanks to our kennel manager DZ and a very committed owner) and is back home safe with her owners! Thanks everyone for sharing and caring.

This little lady decided to go on an adventure instead of attending her vet visit today. She escaped her carrier in our parking lot and ran off into the woods.

She is wearing a collar with her tag on it, but is very shy. Her owners are very worried (trap has been set, items from home and food are present as lures).

If you have any information on this cat, please let us know. Feel free to share her photo around to people who can help keep a look out!

Our phone lines are being a bit persnickety today! We have a call in to see if it’s maybe due to this wire over the road (yikes!).

In the meantime, please feel free to contact us via text through our pet portal. It’s listed on the front page of our website and is called the PetPage App. You need to make sure your log-in is updated first!

Calls are coming through at this time, just less efficiently.

Visit our website for the pet portal in the meantime!

A big shout out to Board and Brush in Penfield for hosting an evening for some of our WAH staff to get creative.

These ladies work hard using their skills, education, and empathy to help the animals in our community. It’s nice to see them enjoy a night of laughter and art!

Not all of us are naturally crafty. We were very thankful for the support of the staff at Board and Brush in helping make our projects so fun! We plan on coming back!

We will be closed on Memorial Day (Monday May 27th) with normal hours resuming on Tues May 28th.

Wish us luck with all these extra kittens we’ve folded into our clinic and home routines lately. This cutie is spoken for but there are a couple of others who will be available at the local shelter in a couple of months ;)

Guess what? Some of our local private vet owners have been planning and working to get Rochester some overnight care- and they did it!

If your pet is suffering or injured when we are closed, here is one more resource that is thankfully close!

Please be respectful of their limited space, and only call for true emergencies. Things like ear infections or mild limping can wait until the next day when the daytime vets are open.

So proud of our community and the grit these vets showed in getting us some help. Way to go!!!!

TODAY'S THE DAY!!!!

We are as excited as you are! We open at 7 PM tonight for our first overnight shift! It's going to be overwhelming, wonderful, and a little scary! We want to give everyone a couple of reminders to make sure every pet has the smoothest journey with us:

1) We are a lot smaller than VSES was, and smaller than most of the other emergency facilities in the surrounding areas. We will not have the capacity to see every pet. Like a human ER, we will need to prioritize the most critical cases. You may get redirected to another emergency facility. That brings us to:

2) Please call ahead if possible. We can help you assess your pet's situation and determine if we have the capacity to provide the care they might need. We can also collect your information and begin to check your pet in, making it easier for you when you arrive.

3) We will be open for emergencies NIGHTS and WEEKENDS only. The wonderful Animal Hospital of Rochester is providing us with a space to work, but they are maintaining their general practice in the space during the day. Animal Hospital of Rochester is a separate organization, and is not taking emergency patients during their hours.

4) Our staff truly cares about the pets we treat and the Rochester Community. Emergency care is stressful for everyone involved. Please treat our staff with kindness and respect, especially as we get through the hiccups to get the hospital up and running. We promise to treat you and your pets with compassion and the best care we can provide 🐾

Our phone number is:

585-775-0020

All of our contact information will be updated in our profile here and our website by the time we open this evening! Thank you for all of the community support that has allowed us to open today. We can't wait to start giving back to everyone that's helped us on this journey!!!

(We were going to share a picture of the hospital, but our sign isn’t up quite yet, so instead please enjoy this picture of Dr. Ingersoll’s puppy, Anvil)

Many of our clients have contacted us with questions regarding the respiratory disease in the news. We have been keeping tabs on it, and have not had a suspected case at this time. Here is a good summary of what we know so far!

Spoiler alert: there’s not a lot new to say about the ongoing situation with canine infectious respiratory disease in North America. Most of this I've

It’s near All Hallows’ eve and one of our most gorgeous felines is happy to model the season!

Some safety tips from those of us at WAH

1. Chocolate is bad for pets. The darker chocolate is most dangerous. The mama owners should probably consume them ASAP to lessen the risk to our patients.

2. Xylitol (also known as birch sugar) is a sweetener that is common in gum (and some candies) and is lethal to pets. Check all gum before having it enter your home.

3. Trick or treaters = opportunity for escape from the front door. Keep the sneaky pets locked up while you dole out the goodies. Also check that your pet is microchipped and up to date on the contact info... just in case!

4. Costumes are amazing for us but terrifying to most pets. Limit their interaction with people who are dressed up to decrease stress.

5. Costumes ON (supervised) pets are practically necessary and we feel the cute photos outweigh the risk. Feel free to share your pet’s photos below!

We’ve been celebrating with good food, happy cheer, and gleeful excitement as we’ve recently expanded our staff to better serve our community. Onward and upward! Update: We are back up and running at full steam today!

We ask for patience as our internet is out! Our provider has promised to send someone out to repair it at the road around lunchtime. Fingers crossed it’s easy peasy so we can get back to the normal swing of things.

All medication refills and routine visits will be postponed until we can get it sorted. Sick patients will still be seen. Our younger staff are learning how to work “old school” today 😉

Thanks again for your patience!

Our Story

Walworth Animal Hospital is one of the few private veterinarian clinics left in this area. We pride ourselves with being able to tailor our recommendations to the needs of our patients and the people who bring them in! Three of our veterinarians have been foundation members of the clinic, and have been here for most of their ~long~careers. The other two veterinarians are homegrown, both having grown up right here in Wayne county (and are happy to be back!).
