I’m finally getting around to posting how the Four Farthing Show Team did at the Sussex Fair and the preceding Local and Friends Day. Spoiler alert – they were AWESOME! Horses and riders stepped up to the challenge of riding at a big, rated show (the first time for all 5 of of my riders) and showed us all how it’s done. I can’t list everything they accomplished, but here are the highlights: Samantha and He’s my Guy were Champions on Local Day in the Hunter Cross Rails division, Aundrea and Bregalad (Laddie) showed in the Low Hunter Derby at the Fair and placed 5th out of 22, and Anne Marie and Kip were just a couple of points shy of Reserve Champion in in the Beginner Hunter at the Fair. But the real stars were our Lead Liners, Miles on Sweet Caroline and Adelyn on Laddie. On Local Day, they were Champion and Reserve Champion, respectively, and then at the Fair they were Co-Champions! Samantha, Aundrea, and Adelyn also won the team competition in the Horseless Horse Show. And, last of all, we took 3rd place in the Best Tack Room competition. But the very best was watching friendships grow, kids learn about sportsmanship and hard work paying off, and their bonds with the horses getting deeper each day. There were so many great shots that I had a dreadful time selecting pictures for this post, but please enjoy these!

The Four Farthing Show Team was at the Sussex Benefit show this past Wednesday as a wind up for the Fair shows beginning on 5th. We had such a great day and there were sooooo many pictures that I cannot possibly share then all! But here are the highlights: Miles and Carolina were Champions in the lead line division, Aundrea missed Reserve Champ by just a few points in the Beginner Rider division, Anne Marie rode a very relaxed and obedient Kip in her division getting extremely nice ribbons for her efforts, and Christian went on the road with us for the first time and was a terrific help to us all. Samantha and Guy also joined us just to get him "off property" for the first time in over a year and Guy was a perfect gentleman the entire day, schooling in the warm-up as if he had never missed a show. All of this bodes well for the Fair - if the weather will cooperate!! Warning: These pictures are in absolutely no order, so just enjoy them as best you can.

I know this is late - again - but it took a while to get all of the pictures pulled together. FFF had the second in its series of three schooling dressage shows on 30 June and the weather held out, at least mostly. Although we had a short period of rain in the afternoon, it was still a great day for everyone. Results have been sent to the ESDCTA and will be posted in their next publication. Many thanks to all of our entrants, their horses, to our volunteers, and to our judge, Erin Hurley, for her excellent feedback. Enjoy the pictures!

We had perfect weather to show this past Sunday at Heavenly Rose Equestrian LLC. Adelyn showed Lead Line away from home for the first time and rode extremely well. Aundrea also showed away from home the first time and she and Laddie did very well in both the Maiden Hunter and Beginner Rider. Avery and Rosie did the Pleasure division and, I have to say, Avery rode better than I think I have ever seen her ride at an away show. But the very best part of the day was watching all of the girls work together and bond over their horses. Truly a very successful day!

Yesterday, Miles got back into the ring for his first show this year. We were at the The Sussex County Horse Show and he showed in the big ring for the first time. Jessica Calabrese led her pony and son on a beautiful day, Sweet Caroline was her usual sweet self, and Miles was all smiles at the end! I was both proud of and impressed with this young man's poise and confidence. - I can see that he is going places!!

This past Saturday we had the next show in the Four Farthing H/J Schooling Show Series. The weather cooperated, as did all of the horses, and a good time was had by all. The day was full of good cheer and camaraderie, and we want to congratulate all of the riders on excellent showing of their mounts, and we hope you all come back to some of our upcoming shows later this year. Also, Henry was at the show again, taking pictures of everyone. Please visit his site at https://marocchiphoto.pixieset.com/fourfarthingshow-1/highlights/ and search on your back number. He got some really good shots of everyone! And enjoy the pictures we took of the day for now.

05/14/2024

Remember to enter the Four Farthing Farm Hunter/Jumper Schooling Show being held this Saturday by this Thursday at 7 PM to avoid a late fee. We have two changes to announce. Our judge for the day has changed to Yvonne Abel, with our thanks for filling in last minute for our original judge who had an unexpected obligation come up. Also, as at our last show, the Leadline classes will run first thing at 8 AM, followed by the Pleasure division. The rest of the prize list will run as scheduled. If your horse has showed here already this year and his/her Coggins/vaccinations are still valid, you do not need to bring proof again. Otherwise, please do bring proof of a negative Coggins that is no more than 1 year old and proof of flu/rhino within the last 6 months or send it in with your entry. We're looking forward to another great day of fun and learning, which is what shows are supposed to be. Come enjoy your day with us! And you even get to shop at Equitique, who will be setting up their mobile shop for the day!!

Yesterday, Anne Marie and Skip Point (Kip) went to their first rated show at the Sussex County Benefit Horse Show and had an excellent day. Although Kip was a bit nervous in the new surroundings, his bond with Anne Marie was stronger and he pulled it together to do his best for her in the Beginner Rider division. There were a few bobbles along the way, but they had some good classes, and the first jumping class was very good indeed! But the best part of the day was the look on Anne Marie's face when she walked up to me, saw her ribbons, and realized that they had taken the Reserve Championship (look at the first picture in this post). That happy surprised look was priceless!! Congratulations to the pair of them.

Four Farthings inaugural Dressage Schooling Show of 2024 is now in the books, and it was a very good day for everyone. Thanks to all of the riders who came to show off what they've been working on all winter, thanks to the horses for being on their very best behavior, thanks to our volunteers who make these shows possible, and many thanks to our judge, Carol Seaman, for sitting patiently for so many long hours and providing excellent feedback to everyone. We still have several more events coming up at the farm over the next several months, so mark your calendars:

Hunter/Jumper schooling show: Sat, 18 May
Dressage Schooling show: Sun, 30 June
Dressage Schooling show: Sun, 25 August
Hunter/Jumper Schooling show: Sat, 14 September

Last, but not least, I want to thank our sponsors for their continuing support: Wantage Excavating for the excellent footing, Equitique for supporting our year end awards and for setting up their mobile shop at all of our shows this year, Farmside Gardens for the lovely floral decorations in the ring and secretary's stand, and Farmside Supplies for sponsoring ribbons and prizes throughout the series.

Here is another post that is overdue. Four Farthing wants to congratulate Avery and Four Farthings Rosemary on showing over fences for the first time away from home. It's another step in the journey to being a force to be reckoned with in the show ring. We are so proud of both these young ladies on forming a strong bond based on trust and communication. I don't have any pics of them actually showing (I was too busy watching and coaching!), but they came away with another great bunch of ribbons. Congrats girls!!

This post is a bit late, but we've been a busy bunch at Four Farthing of late. On 27 April, we host Shane Ledyard at the farm for a clinic to help all of us get tuned up for the pending show season. Everyone had a great time and left feeling like they had some new insights on how to work better with their equine partners. If you didn't make the clinic, don't worry as we plan to invite Shane back soon for another clinic, hopefully this Fall. Until then, enjoy some pics from the day.

Yesterday we took a couple of horses over to the Sussex Fairgrounds for the Open Schooling Day and had a great time. It was Jess's first time at the Fairgrounds on her still new horse, Evo and she had a few "ah ha" moments in the ring. Rose schooled very well, and Avery and she are going to make a really great pair as they mature together at the shows. Many thanks to Jaclyn Tassey and the The Sussex County Horse Show for making this event happen for the past several years. And thanks to Christian who groomed for us for the afternoon and made my life SO much easier!

Attention: riders and family of those who showed at the Four Farthing Farm show this past Saturday. And, again, there are some really nice shots! Please reach out to Henry at [email protected] or call/text him at 908-303-0640 if you are interested in any of the shots.

The weather may not have been what we had hoped for, but it turned out to be a wonderful day for the first Four Farthing Farm H/J schooling show of 2024. The good luck foretold by the double rainbow over the farm the day before turned out to be true, and it was a lucky day for everyone that showed. Here are just a few pictures of the riders and horses that came to strut their stuff for our judge, Penny Schell. The newly redone footing in the outdoor held up wonderfully in the wet weather and we are grateful to our sponsors, Wantage Excavating, for making for a much better experience for our riders. We also want to thank Equitique for setting up their portable tack shop, giving all of us a chance to see some of the new styles and goods available this year and for sponsoring our leadline classes. Everyone that took home a blue ribbon enjoyed getting a coupon for $5 off on any purchase at Farmside Supplies and we all enjoyed the beautiful greenery and flowers donated for the day by Farmside Gardens & Florist. Lastly, if you showed, or know someone that showed, yesterday, please visit the site of our visiting photographer, Beyond Equine Photography, at https://beyondequinephotography.pixieset.com/fourfarthingfarmshow/

The Four Farthing Farm H/J schooling show for tomorrow, 13 April will have a delayed start of 9 AM to allow the ring a bit more time to dry out and for it to warm up as it is supposed to be rather cold early tomorrow morning. Also, the Lead Line division will be moved up to the first division of the day, to be followed by the Pleasure classes, after which the usual schedule will be followed. Stay tuned to this page - I will be posting approximate times for the various divisions shortly!

NEWS: Not only will one of our sponsors, Equitique, be setting up a tent at the show, but we just had the footing redone in both our outdoor and indoor rings today by another sponsor. Hennig Sofa saddle for sale: German made dressage saddle in very good condition, black, 17.5" seat, wool flocked, medium wide. Will ship, but preference will be given to people who can pick it up in Sussex County NJ. This is the most comfortable dressage saddle I have ever sat in! The name - Sofa - says it all. Only selling as my young (but ever widening) ISH mare has outgrown it. $3250 to local buyers who pick it up, $3300 if I have to ship it.

04/07/2024

ATTENTION FOUR FARTHING CUSTOMERS: Both the indoor and outdoor rings will be closed on Monday the 8th. They will reopen on Tuesday. Many thanks to our neighbors and sponsors at Wantage Excavating (wantageexcavating.com) who will be prepping both rings in advance of our first show of the season.

Today, the Four Farthing Show Team hit the road for the first time this year and had a great day. We went to see our friends at Heavenly Rose Equestrian LLC. It was a cold morning and there were a few glitches to start the day for both Avery and Anne Marie, but they both pulled up their "big girl" pants and rode. They went home having learned things about both themselves and their horses. Rosie and Kip gave their all to their riders and we all left happy. We are looking forward to hosting the next show in The Sussex County Hunter/Jumper Schooling Show Series (SCHJSSS) at home on Saturday, 13 April. We hope to see you there!

We have an end of year show series and are also a founding member of the Sussex County Hunter/Jumper Schooling Series (SCHJSS). Lastly today, I want to give a quick update on our 2023 filly, Four Farthings Clover. Not only is she growing like a wild w**d, now standing 14.2 hands at 11 months, but she is growing up in other ways. Last weekend, she had her first tailer training session. Although it took her a bit (in the form of many, many treats) to be convinced that going on was a good idea, she did finally get up into the trailer without (too much) drama. After greeting her new best friend, Symphony, she walked off the front ramp like a pro, taking small careful steps and gently stepping onto the ground at the bottom. For those of you who have never done trailer training with babies before, most of them try to jump from the top to the ground, not trusting the ramp. Not my Clover! She was very sensible - and that is why we love the Irish!! Many thanks to Christian, both for helping me to convince Clover that trailers do not eat horses, and also for the lovely pictures he took.
