Well, the team is back at it again! Working with 12 Вартових, Tiernothilfe Ukraine e.V. is bringing veterinary care to the areas affected by Russia's war against Ukraine.

We've been off working with the Humane Society in the US the past 2 weeks, so our posts have been few.
But this week's Wednesday post is still in Ukraine looking for a home!
There are a lot of steps to get a dog across the border from Ukraine to Europe and even more steps if she comes to the USA.
But we'll keep looking for homes for a many pets as we can!

Another Wednesday!
Last week, we highlighted Lada, but from the same shelter, we also brought over Josephine!
She was fostered at КітПес and now made her way over to Wisconsin!
She was immediately best friends with the 3 boys there and absolutely loves the couch. She is just the most amazing muppet and I am so happy she is doing so well in her new home!

Just another lazy
We're in the early phases of planning a campaign in August. We'll keep you updated.
But last year, right around this time in June, we worked at a shelter, and one of our surgeons performed all the procedures in the cat room! So of the cats tried to get involved, but most of them just hung around and slept.

A little later than normal Wednesday!
Lada was in the shelter most of her life in Ukraine. In foster with the wonderful Марина Шумейко
She was brought over to Germany and then down to the USA after all her paperwork was in order and is now living upstate New York with her brother Mr. James Bond.
She had made lots of new dog and people friends up there and is doing great in her new life!

We're switching gears this
This weekend, our president headed down to Navajo Nation to volunteer with The Parker Project
We're performing veterinary services for the Navajo tribe in Tuba City.
Our board members are all volunteers, but that doesn't stop them from volunteering for animals everywhere. Between our 4 board members, we've volunteered in over 20 countries!

Yet another Wednesday with our shining star, , the little Pickle!
(Seriously, don't let me name your pet when I'm hungry)
This beautiful gem, our cover photo, was rescued during our Christmas 2023 campaign in Часів Яр/Chasiv Yar. Her owner had no food to feed her family, so we supplied her with some people and dog food. Fortunately her owner was open to reason and allowed us to relocated this angel so she could have a better life.
Lil Pickle is currently in foster in Kyiv, growing healthy and strong. She has not let her past hold her back at all. She is a social butterfly and full of life.

Another Wednesday.
Tiny Пірожак (Pie, because he is as sweet as pie) was found in Запоріжжя/Zaporizhzhia Oblast. When I say he was tiny, I mean he could fit in the palm of your hand!
He now goes by Stitch and lives in Germany! (And he's still pretty tiny!)

Another Wednesday!
Highlighting another furry friend from the frontlines in Ukraine that found a new home.
This is Chip!
Originally from Вовчанськ/Vovchansk, he was brought by our team on our Christmas 2023 campaign in Часів Яр/Chasiv Yar. He spent the week with us and then was fostered by the wonderful Гостомель/Hostomel' shelter until all of his paperwork was sorted.
Since then he has also made the big trip to the USA and is currently living on Long Island in New York. He's doing well as an only child and loving all the attention.

Today is День Києва - Kyiv Day!
It is a local holiday to celebrate the founding of the capital and is celebrated on the last Sunday of May.
Kyiv is always our homebase when we are in country. It acts as our meeting point, where our storage garage is, where we get off the train from Poland since the air space is restricted.
Basically a birthday for the capital of Ukraine! З Днем Києва!

If you have every worked in pet rescue you know the phrase "kitten season"
Every spring an untold number of kittens are born into the world and this spring campaign there were LOTS of cats.
Our team sterilized 425 cats on the 9 day project!
Some were street cats, and some were owned. Some were friendly... and some were less excited to be brought to the clinic.
But by the time they left they were all defleaed, dewormed, and desexed, so we were all very happy.

I was recently telling some highlights of the last campaign to colleagues at work...
9 days. 2 surgeons. 650 surgeries. New personal best of 42 surgeries in one day. And before that, volunteering in Chornobyl with Dogs of Chernobyl
All very exciting and well received.
About 15 minutes into the conversation I realized I has forgotten the biggest highlight of my trip... that I had met President Zelensky!
So clearly my priorities are in order. 😂🤣
Pets first. Everything else comes second.
