🚨 Important Microchip Update for Pet Owners 🚨

What happened: We’ve recently learned that the pet microchipping company Save This Life unexpectedly shut down and has been disconnected from the national database. As a result, all pets that were registered with them are no longer registered.

What this means: If your pet was registered with Save This Life, they are no longer registered. If your pet is lost, veterinary hospitals and shelters will not be able to use your pet's microchip registration to contact you. If your pet was microchipped at South Shore Animal Hospital between 2015 and 2023 or has a microchip starting with 991 or 900164, your pet might have a Save This Life chip.

What you can do:
✔ If you know your pet's microchip number go to https://www.aaha.org/for-veterinary-professionals/microchip-search to check the national database to see where your pet's microchip is registered.

✔If you do not know your pet's microchip number, please call us at (516) 826-3400 so we can look it up for you or give you further guidance.

✔ If your pet is not registered, visit one of these registries and sign up today:
➡️www.homeagain.com offers lifetime registration for a one-time fee of $19.99.
➡️www.petlink.net offers lifetime registration and free account updates for $9.99 with discount code VEDCO.
➡️www.freepetchipregistry.com offers free lifetime registration and free account updates.

✔Contact Us: If you’re unsure if your pet has a microchip or where your pet’s microchip is registered, call for assistance at (516) 826-3400.

We encourage all pet owners to act quickly to ensure their pets are always protected and their information is up to date.

💖 This Valentine’s Day, show your pet some extra love while keeping them safe – and help keep other pets safe by sharing this post!

Here are a few Valentine’s pet safety tips to keep in mind:

-Keep chocolate, candy, and treats with xylitol far out of reach—they’re toxic to pets!
-Watch out for flowers like lilies, which are especially dangerous for cats.
-Be mindful of lit candles and decorations that curious paws might knock over.
-Secure ribbons, strings, and wrappers to avoid accidental ingestion.

Wishing you and your pets a safe and sweet Valentine’s Day!

⚠️Nassau County Health Officials have confirmed rabid raccoons in Massapequa Park and West Hempstead warning of a potential rabies spread in our area⚠️

The NCDOH has confirmed that raccoons collected in Massapequa Park and West Hempstead on December 29th and 30th tested positive for rabies. Rabies is a viral disease spread to humans, dogs, and cats primarily through bites, scratches, or contact with an infected animal's saliva. Rabies is preventable but can be fatal.

Protect your pets and family immediately with these precautions:
🐾 If your pet is overdue, contact us today to schedule their vaccine.
🚫 Avoid contact with wild or stray animals.
🏡 Supervise pets outdoors and bring them indoors at night.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 If a wild animal is on your property, immediately bring children and pets indoors until it is gone.
👨‍⚕️ Seek immediate medical attention if bitten or scratched by an animal and contact the NCDOH to report the incident.

Rabies is preventable, but it’s serious—don’t take chances. Call us at (516) 826-3400 or click below to schedule your pet’s rabies vaccination.

Not sure if your pet's vaccination is up to date? Call us today or download our healthcare app for access to your pet's vaccination information: https://www.happyhealthypets.com/app-download

For more information, visit the Nassau County Department of Health https://www.nassaucountyny.gov. Stay safe and be vigilant!
