🐾 Patient of the Week: Garbanzo the Scottish Fold! 🐾

Say hello to Garbanzo, our adorable 4-month-old Scottish Fold patient of the week! This little bundle of joy has captured all our hearts with his charming personality, unique look, and perfect little toe beans 😍

The Scottish Fold is a breed known for its distinctive folded ears, which give them an owl-like appearance. This trait is the result of a natural genetic mutation and adds to their irresistibly cute demeanor. Besides their iconic ears, Scottish Folds are known for their sweet, calm, and affectionate nature. They tend to form strong bonds with their humans and enjoy being involved in all household activities.

Our Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), Flor, is especially fond of Garbanzo. She has a Scottish Fold of her own at home and can’t resist giving extra love and attention to all our Scottish Fold patients ❤️ In this picture, Flor was caught sneaking Garbanzo into our management office to share his snuggles and love with our hospital manager Carmen 😂

Help us celebrate Garbanzo by dropping a 🐱 in the comments and sharing your own stories about this wonderful breed!

🐾 Patient of the Week Alert: Lady the Golden Doodle! 🐾

Say hello to Lady, an adorable 9-week-old red Golden Doodle! Weighing in at just under 4 pounds, Lady came in for her very first exam this week, and she melted our hearts instantly!

Early care, like Lady's first visit, is crucial for setting our furry friends up for a lifetime of health and happiness. At this age, Lady is starting her puppy vaccine schedule, which is essential to protect her against common diseases and keep her healthy as she grows 💉

Did you know that the puppy vaccine schedule includes a series of shots given every 3-4 weeks until they're about 16 weeks old? These vaccinations help protect against illnesses like distemper, parvovirus, and rabies. Starting early ensures that Lady will have a strong immune system as she explores the world around her 🌍💪

If you have a new puppy at home, make sure to schedule their first exam and keep up with their vaccines to give them the best start in life. 🐾💕

Did you know that less than 10% of the pets that are unchipped will return home each year?

A microchip is a secure, reliable, permanent identification for your pet and the process is simple and affordable. Microchipping your pet can help ensure that if your pet goes missing, they can be identified and find their way back to you.

If your pet is chipped, make sure their information is up to date. To help keep pets close to their loved ones, share this post and remind your friends to !

Hey there friends, let's chat about parasites 🤢 Sure, Giardia (pictured below) might seem cute at first glance, but trust us, its symptoms are anything but adorable.

In 2024, 1 out of every 11 dogs in Nassau County have tested positive for this pesky parasite, which, by the way, can also infect humans. Want to dive deeper into the parasite scene in our area? Check out the Companion Animal Parasite Council's map right here: https://capcvet.org/maps

Now, what's a responsible pet owner to do in the face of these creepy crawlies? It's simple: routinely checking your pet's stool sample is key to ensuring their GI health and keeping parasites like Giardia out of your home!

So next time we see you and your fur babies - don't forget the p**p! Let's work together to keep our furry friends parasite free and thriving 🐾💪

Is your pet scooting or licking their rear? It could be their a**l glands.

A**l glands are located on the rear of dogs and cats. The glands produce an oily, fishy-smelling fluid that helps with scent marking. Sometimes these glands can get impacted or infected.

Soft, consistent stool, as well as allergies, are common causes of irritation. If your pet is scooting, licking excessively, or showing signs of discomfort around their rear end, contact us! We will help to identify the cause and determine the best course of treatment.

With tomorrow being Hairball Awareness Day, we wanted to remind our cat parents about the importance of preventing hairballs.

Accumulated from excessive grooming, hairballs can build in your cat’s digestive system and either get coughed up or in some cases, need surgical removal.
If your cat is excessively vomiting, lethargic, loses their appetite, or has diarrhea or constipation, these may be signs of a blockage and you should contact our team immediately.

🐾 Meet Randall, the newest addition to our furry family 🐾

At just 12 weeks old, Randall the Yorkshire Terrier is already stealing hearts with his adorable blue merle coat and playful personality 💙🐶 His unique coloring makes him stand out in a crowd, but it's his sweet nature that truly makes him one of a kind.

We wanted to take a moment to highlight the importance of regular check-ups for puppies like Randall. These early appointments are crucial for monitoring their growth, vaccinations, and catching any potential health issues before they become serious.

Randall may be small, but his impact on our hearts is immeasurable. We can't wait to watch him grow and thrive with the love and care of his forever family.

🌟 Let's give Randall a warm welcome and show him just how much he's loved! ❤️
