♡RUBY is so Precious.♡
She is a 7-8 year old Beagle, originally from a Kentucky shelter. She was adopted from Last Hope 2 years ago, and returned recently through no fault of her own. Her adopter showed up at our door unannounced and said he was being deployed which didn't make sense based on other information.

Two years before that, after she first came to Last Hope, she was returned. Her 1st adopting family said they no longer had time for her.

And because RUBY is so precious & sweet, and because the Ruby is the July birthstone, Last Hope would like to rehome RUBY soon with people who will cherish her for the rest of her precious life.

❤️ MEET RIZZO at Last Hope Cat
Center in Wantagh. ❤️
Don't be fooled by her name. RIZZO is a female kitten almost 5 months old.
You can see her dazzling eyeliner..lShe is a Maybelline model, off a make-up commercial.
She was one of 3 tabby kittens found in a Mastic yard. The other 2 are boys, slightly older than RIZZO.
So sweet, so tabblicious too.
Please go meet RIZZO, not to be confused with Ratzo Rizzo in the film "Midnight Cowboy", which was before her time, and probably before your time toooo.
RIZZO from "Grease" may be more familiar to you...haha

🐕 Meet TIN ( without the RIN
or the other TIN). 🐶
🐕 She is from Georgia, and has puppy enthusiasm. 🐕
Here is what her Georgia-sending shelter has to say about this petite blonde pup:
"TIN has been with us for 5 weeks, because her owners abandoned her. They moved and left her.
She is very playful and thinks everyone should be her friend. She will sit proudly and pretty and just smile for you.
TIN is 27 pounds and will high step it to you like a dancing horse when she wants your attention.
She has gotten along with every dog and everyone she has met since she has been with us, absolutely no aggression or problems."
Abandoned, yet still Adorable & Affectionate.
Dogs are so forgiving of people's transgressions.
TIN is solid proof of that.

🐝 GREYLY sings " Let It BEE":
"When I find myself in times of trouble, Last Hope volunteers comfort me."🐝
GREYLY's Last Hope stay began like a typical kitten entering our cat adoption program in 2023.
He & a 7 week old littermate were rescued from an industrial area in Amityville with their feral Mom (who was TNRed).
After a time at Last Hope, his digestive problem was discovered. He couldn't keep food down . He wasn't thriving or growing. Yet he was a loving, friendly fellow.
Veterinary tests uncovered a serious congenital defect called megaeshophagus.
He had big troubles swallowing . He needed small meals, eaten slowly from an elevated, tilted dish.
A lot of research went into finding the best feeding station to ease GREYLY's condition. Volunteer Leslie, our cat medical pro, made GREYLY her
priority. Dish designs were explored.
With a lot of trial & error plus GREYLY'S patience, his feeding plan has been fine-tuned after acyear.
He eats small meals several times a day..After each meal, GREYLY is carried around in an upright position by a volunteer while the volunteer gently "burps" him.
He loves the TLC & attention, and his many feline fans love taking turns as the GBs (aka GREYLY BURPERS).
Courtney is one of GREYLY'S biggest fans & advocates. She felt he should be dressed up for Halloween, so GREYLY became a bumblebee for a photo session. He wasn't thrilled, but he cooperated.
And that is how his singing career was launched today on Last Hope Inc FB.
GREYLY is proof that pets are resilient, patient & appreciative despite medical
CATastrophes.

📰 NEWS BREAK 9:45 AM EST- Puerto Rico Dogs Flight Plans Canceled. Coming to Last Hope Another Day.

👼 AURA has a beautiful aura, and she will fly high today👼
AURA is a sweet 9 month old Chihuahua mix who will be boarding a flight from Puerto Rico today, via her rescuers at All Sato Project, and landing at JFK tonight.
At approximately 10 pm, AURA ( and KETSIE) wiil be lovingly delivered to Last.Hope's door to enter the most important chapter of her young life.
AURA, only 15 pounds, will begin her search for a FOREVER HOME.
Bless the aura around our pup AURA, por favor!

🐈 Play It Again, SAMMY!😻
SAMMY played his cards right during his TNR ordeal.
Last week, he was trapped in a Queens cat colony & taken to Wantagh for his Big Snip at a van TNR Clinic.
Throughout the day, including post-surgical recovery , he continued to show he is friendly so he earned a Golden Ticket into the Last Hope Cat Adoption Program. PURRfect timing. SAMMY!
SAMMY is a 4 month old, bright orange tabby with a perPETual purr & an eartip badge of honor.

FALCON is a crowd pleaser. He was rescued when he showed all alone on someone's patio in Bayport.
He moved from Last Hope Cat Center to Petco Wantagh, and wasn't there long.

❤️ KETSIE Hopes to be Your Petsie.🧡
This 4 month old puppy will be flying to NY from PUERTO RICO, courtesy of All Sato Rescue, this Sunday-Nov. 3.
All Sato will pick her & other Puerto
Rico pups up at JFK , and deliver her & another female pup to Last Hope.
She was already spayed by All Sato,
and 26 pounds. KETSIE will probably grow to be medium-sized.
Last Hope appreciates our Puerto Rico partnership with All Sato which rescues abandoned dogs & cats from streets & beaches of Puerto Rico, does basic vetting & foster care there .
Last Hope takes over after that for further vetting here, kennel care, TLC and the search for a loving home.

🐈 JACK & JILL weren't born as natural siblings. Circumstance brought & kept them Together ❤️
Orange tabby boy- JACK & dilute calico-JILL were each found a day or so apart , and in separate LI towns.. as orphan infants, needing a bottle feeder. Each was taken to Bonnie in Central Islip who bottlefed & fostered the duo together. They got accustomed to life in a home, and even slept with Bonnie each night.
They entered the Last Hope Cat Adoption Program together as "secret siblings..
They were spay/ neutered together & Adopted Together by another Jill, the sister of DeeDee a Last Hope volunteer . They are cherished at Home with Jill.
Their new names are now BAMBI & MOUSE. DeeDee happens to be a great cat photographer...
She captured these precious photos of the kittens on their first Halloween, dressed as a pair of GREAT PUMPKINS.
Charlie Brown & Snoopy would be so PROUD.
Wishing JACK & JILL a Happy Halloween- the first of MANY.

🎈 On Sat. Oct. 26, Last Hope Pups Went to the Merrick Chamber of Commerce Street Fair.🎈
TIC,BENTLEY, and BELLA made a public appearance at the fair. The sights & sounds were so appealing to the pups.
They helped to spread the word about Last Hope being nearby in Wantagh.

And he is the Perfect Pup to Deliver this Halloween greeting because Beagles are expert at howling, if need be.
COOPER, however, is so easy-going that he can make his wishes known without howling. Notice SNOOPY willingly lent COOPER his favorite sleeping spot.

PALOMA & BLANCA- pure white sisters (with 2 fingerprints on their foreheads) moved to Petco Wantagh for their Adoption Debut.
The 3 month old "little pretties" are the daughters of pure white ANASTASIA.
This feline family was rescued in Mastic Beach when the sisters were only 6 weeks old.
Now spayed, PALOMA & BLANCA are getting used to their new setting in Petco Wantagh.
Hopefully, this photo & post will keep each kitten from staying at the store for long.

🏆 🍃 The "SAVE the ANIMALS CLUB"
Members are at Plainview Middle School
Now & Continue to " Rake" in $ for Last Hope Pets with Their Fall Treat Sale🏆 🍋
❤️ 🐕 Amazing!The SAVE the ANIMALS Club Does It Again! ❤️ 🐈
The club was created by Maya, Zach, Dana, Eleanor & Arden- when they were students at Pasadena Elem in Plainview.
They are 5th graders now at Plainview Middle School.
In just over a year, this Club has organized 7 events for Last Hope pups & kitties.
The latest was this "Fall Treat Sale " outside, offering pumpkin donuts, dirt cups, cookies', and MORE.
Their goal is to assist our homeless pets.
🌟 The Club raised a whopping $270 for Last Hope. WOW!
These dedicated students/ neighborhood friends have had 4 lemonade stand days, a hot chocolate day, a different bake sale day plus they organized a supply drive at their alma mater -Pasadena Elem;
The kids made morning announcements & collected donations for our Adoption Center with the help of their principal & school staff...The members of the SAVE the ANIMALS Club are remarkably KIND & BUSY.
Amazing that they are able to keep their club active this year in a new school.
When most of us are thinking about Halloween Trick or Treat, the Club members are Busy Selling TREATS to Treat our Orphan Dogs & Cats to MORE.. They certainly deserve a big THANK YOU
from everyone who reads this FB post.❤️

🐈 It's National Cat Day on October 29🐈‍⬛️
SIMON has a rough life reminder for YOU. SIMON SEZ:
" Please it's so important to Spay/Neuter Cats You Feed, because many kittens are already waiting in the wings for rescue."
SIMON knows this well.. He & 2 tuxedo kittens were seen at a managed colony behind a church. It seems there are expensive condos near the church with intact ferals there.
These ferals & their offspring wander over to the church feeding area. No condo residents are helping them.
SIMON , a new kitten, was with 2 new tuxedo kittens right before caretakers were set to trap the trio for a Last Hope TNR Clinic.
SIMON disappeared..Then, his caretakers realized he was hiding in the church rectory.
On trapping day , SIMON was discovered curled up in a wastepaper basket in the rectory copy room.
His caretakers reached in pail, and picked up a purrfectly friendly kitten.
He was neutered at the TNR Clinic with a mandatory ear-tip but now is waiting in foster care for his sacred spot into the Last Hope Cat Adoption Program.
Divine Intervention? Or, PURRhaps, Divine Intrusion by SIMON...
Not all kittens..even friendly ones..are as fortunate as SIMON.

🐈 SHADOW & CALI: Our Wonderful Window-Well Kittens are Still Available for Adoption at Petco Plainview. You'd Think This Duo Would Be Scooped Up Immediately. 😻
SHADOW & his sister CALI are super-socialized , outgoing, good with dogs- just PURRfecto!
This Russian Blue mix boy & Classic Calico girl belong to the litter of 5 infants
" fished" out of a deep Window-Well in a Syosset yard, and nursed by their feral Mom in loving Last Hope foster care.
Kim, their foster Mom , gave the bambinos tons of TLC, introduced them to her 2 Golden Retrievers who acted as their doggy uncles. This helped transform the kittens into tiny fabulous felines.
You can meet & adopt SHADOW, CALI or both almost 3 month old babies at Petco Plainview.

❤️ 🐕 "Tie" a Little Tenderness. 🐈‍⬛️ ❤️
Residents at Our Lady of Consolation Nursing Home in West Islip tied the fringed edges of fleece fabric to make hundreds of comfy, beautiful blankets as gifts to homeless dogs & cats at shelters all over Long Island.
The tag on each completed blanket (directed to the homeless pet) will tug at your heartstrings.
Each tag says:
" Handmade for You
We tied these two pieces together as a symbol that you, the angel with four paws, will soon be together with your forever family.

The fringe-tied blankets are a popular pet project with teen library groups & Scout troops because no sewing is involved.
Never before had Last Hope received any handmade crafts from a nursing home, and never such a poignant tag on any craft for our pets.

😻 Two weeks ago, two boxes of these lovely blankets were quietly left on the bench as you enter Last Hope.
Pat, a cat volunteer opened a box before putting them away, and discovered the notes attached to each blanket. She also saw that there was a message on the boxes, explaining that Consolation residents made them in 2 sizes- cat/tiny dog and medium-size dog.
She called me to make sure I knew about the blankets before they were hidden away.
She read aloud a tag to me. I got goosebumps when I realized the impact of the wording - the symbolism of tying the fringe knots compared to tying orphan pets to their Forever Families.
I asked her to send me photos of the blankets & a close-up of the tag.
The next week, I called Consolation
and spoke to Christine Centrone, their director of Therapeutic Recreation.
She explained the blankets had been a huge group project on September 11th which is also called the National Day of Service.
She said Kristy Duran, CTRS, ATR , who was in charge of the project would call me the next day to give me more details, and photos of residents working on the blankets, By the way, the wording of the tags was Kristy's brainstorm.
It was great to learn we did have permission to use the photos at Consolation on FB
Between 40-50 Consolation women & men residents, many in wheelchairs, some with memory impairment, took over their auditorium & worked together at tables to tie knots, create the blankets & add the beautiful tags.
The fleece was pre-cut by recreation staff- same is done for library & Scout workshops.
The finished blankets were divided up & delivered to different animal shelters & rescues..Last Hope has at least 30 so the residents & staff were very busy.
Our blankets will become GO HOME gifts for our adopted cats, kittens, puppies, small & medium size dogs.
We hope the new owners will remove the tags & save them years as mementos of their pet's first Gotcha Day.

On another level, it's so refreshing to learn of a Community Service project done by seniors in nursing homes.
Typically, service projects are done FOR them - not BY them.
These seniors represent a large group people coming together with their combined decades of talents, expertise & knowledge...their life' skills so often overlooked...with many of the elderly residents considered helpless now because of their advanced age..
But, here at Consolation on the NationalDay of Service, they are working together to bring comfort & love to many helpless dogs & cats who need hope & a home. How rewarding!

😻 Update on "A Kitten Called WANDA" 🐈‍⬛️ This is WANDA, the tiny tortie that John Debacker netted & saved when she was stranded against the median on Wantagh Parkway during rush hour last week. WANDA has been chilling at Last Hope since her ordeal seen on TV news. She is about 7-8 weeks old & quite frightened. John has bern working with her at Last Hope Wantagh, and lots of TLC & handling have softened her fear. Previously, she would hide under her blanket, shivering in fear. NOT ANY MORE...WANDA is a purring machine, welcoming petting. [ Listen carefully to the video] The person who first noticed WANDA stranded on the parkway & posted her danger is interested in adopting WANDA. WANDA is waiting to be spayed so she can move to a safe & loving home. This tiny tortie is on the cusp of beginning of " A WONDERFUL LIFE". #ThanksJohn #Thanks2thepersonwhosawWANDAindistress

🧸 🐕 TEX is Perplexed. 🧸🐕 The puzzle toy has TEX thinking:"This Toy Shows I'm smart. I have lits of volunteer friends at Last Hope, my skin allergies are much better, so why don't I get adopted?" TEX, Last Hope is perplexed too.

JOON represented Last Hope at the Nassau County SPCA Animal Abuse Awareness Event & did a good job. JOON likes other dogs & has pup potential as a lovable family pet. 🐕 🏃‍♀️Two days before the Olympics Summer Games begin in Paris ,CHANCE & TROOPER are practicing their new sport called " SYNCHRONIZED PLAYING" 🏃‍♀️ 🐕 Our 2 canine contenders are Georgia Peach PUPS. Their playing is a doggy ballet, moving effortlessly as they race with grace across the Last Hope play yard. We are thrilled they are so well-matched, gentle and in tune as they play fight in flight. CHANCE is a 5 month old Boxer mix, while TROOPER, who just recovered from a broken leg, is a 1.5 year d Hound mix. Each pup would like to join a Home Team.They need not be adopted Together.A dog playmate who is already your pet would be a great SYNCHRONIZED PLAYING partner for CHANCE or TROOPER. 🐈‍⬛️ We interrupt the quiet & calm of the Last Hope Inc FB page with a short video of THOM McCANN. 🐈‍⬛️ This approximately 2 week old kitten was put in a shoebox and left on the front porch of a senior citizen in Westbury. The woman's daughter drove from eastern Suffolk to fetch the crying infant, and then got the OK to bring him to Last Hope. THOM McCANN didn't know when he was crying that he was going to his foster home with his bottle feeder Deb O. To be continued...the saga of tiny THOM McCANN.

🐈 PEARL, our pearl of a girl cat, has moved into a PURRfect Home.🐈 Her pet parents were looking for a pure white cat, and , lo & behold, her new Mom Alison found PEARL at Last Hope Cat Centeri n Wantagh- not an easy, feline feat. PEARL is one of over 10 cats surrendered to Last Hope from a Brentwood owner who realized he had too many to provide proper care. Now PEARL will be a pampered pet, going by her new name-CHLOE. Her pet parents will introduce her gradually to her cat brother TIMMY.. PEARL is used to living with other cats, whereas, TIMMY has been an only cat who has shown soft interest to the cats he sees outside his window, and to the scent of his sister-to-be through the door to her "Pretty in Pink" bedroom. 😻 GREAT NEWS: SMOKEY -Last Hope Russian Blue mix, Missing in Farmingdale- FOUND, SAFE & HOME.🐈‍⬛️ ❤️ She was hiding under the backyard deck, as we expected, and last night, her family was able to lure her out & carry her back into the house.
