❤️ Nicest NELLIE News💖
Red Heeler NELLIE was flown to Last Hope from Texas as a small puppy., and soon after adopted.
We met her again 5 years later when she came back because of family circumstances.
NELLIE stayed at the Center for months, partly because she would do best in a 1 dog home.
Many volunteers treasured time with NELLIE.
Each week volunteer Donna (whose beloved dog had passed) would say : " I should take NELLIE home".
And last week when her shift was over, Donna did.

🐶 Darling DARWIN is on his way to Last Hope. 🐶
This 2 year old Jack Russell Terrier mix comes from Georgia with rave reviews from the shelter & his foster Mom.
He was picked up by animal control as a stray wandering on a field.
During his short time in foster care, DARWIN was house broken, got along well with the 3 resident dogs, and loved human attention.
Only 16 pounds, DARWIN sounds like a wonderful representative of his species-
"canis familiaris."

He is 3 months old, neutered, outgoing, & ready to hop into your heart home.

🚜 DUCK & MOOMOO from Last Hope's "Old MacDonald" litter have moooved to Petco Plainview where they are hoping for greener pastures of potential adopters.🐄
These cuties are 3 months old. DUCK is male while MOOMOO is female.
Please be "quackingly" quick to meet MOOMOO & DUCK at Petco Plainview.

🐈 July 10th is National Kitten Day. The poster below contains a very depressing statistic..
🐈‍⬛️
To individualize the statistics for Last Hope rescue efforts. Think of the numbers this way- 75% of kittens born outside die before they are 6 months old.
Remember feral cats are shadow citizens....abandoned, domesticated pet cats are the ancestors of all ferals, fending for themselves outside.
🐈 Last Hope rescues & places approximately 500 cats & kittens a year. We are a large LI grassroots organization with many volunteers & supporters.
More kittens enter Last Hope than adult cats....and almost all of the Last Hope adoption program cats stem from outdoor breeding situations gone awry.
We don't take owners' cats unless they were adopted from Last Hope originally, or if the situation is particularly perilous.
Actually, all of our cats are originally from outside, except for the cats/kittens from inside hoarder situations with intact cats.....
Hence, for each cat Last Hope rescues & places per year, there are 3 more cats we didn't save...because of lack of knowledge of their existence & whereabouts, lack of $ resources, lack of enough volunteers, trappers, fosters; lack of low cost spay/neuter veterinary venues & appointments, & lack of compassion from the public & some politicians.
🐈 So, if we save 500 felines each year, there are another 1,500 invisible, feline victims who succumb to the ravages of existing outdoors....Yes, this is depressing.
How can you help?

🐈 Use our Fix-a-Feral vouchers properly.
🐈 Spay/Neuter Outdoor Cats You Feed.
🐈 Volunteeeeeer!

Together-we can make more of a difference for LI feral cats.

❤️ Adoration for AMBER.
She has Foster-to-Adopt Pup Parents who will care for her during her heartworm treatment, & hopefully Beyond.💙
AMBER - a Golden/Beagle gal came to Last Hope from a crowded Georgia shelter.
We knew she was heartworm positive, and her sending shelter would not have the space or resources to treat a dog with heartworm.
Last Hope can give AMBER a new "leash on life".

She & 2 littermates were rescued in Deer Park.
Her temporary music studio is inside the Last Hope Cat Center in Wantagh.

🐶 Beagle Adoption Trifecta- FENDER, JULIE, BILLY- Go Home Sweet Home.🐎
Each Beagle came from
a different world-
🐕 FENDER from Town of Brookhaven Shelter.
🐕 JULIE from a Kentucky shelter.
🐕 BILLY from Babylon Town Shelter.
Each found the path to Last Hope.
And each left Homelessness
Behind to Begin a Better Beagle Life.

🍋 Vivianne & Ella are lovely lemonade ladies. Their cold drink stand helped Last Hope Cats & Dogs -BIG TIME. 🍋
Vivianne & Ella surprised volunteers-Laura & Anthony- at Last Hope Adoption Center with the amazing proceeds from their lemonade stand.
The 2 girls (who will become Wantagh 4th graders in September ) set up a lemonade stand during the scorching heat wave. 🌞
They said they only charged $1.00 per glass, and they raised a whopping $386.50.
You do the math.
🏆 At that rate, how many glasses did the lovely lemonade ladies sell?_______

Last Hope is so appreciative of their kindness & business smarts.

😻 STANLEY is Stately.
He resembles a majestic Russian Blue. 🐈‍⬛️
However, there is nothing stately or majestic about his recent past.
Friendly STANLEY was discovered fending for himself at a feral colony. He didn't belong there.
Thankfully, a kind soul noticed he was out of place, trapped him, and worked the minor miracle of helping him become a Last Hope adoptable feline fellow.
STANLEY resides in a big cage at our Wantagh Cat Adoption Center..
He would be thrilled to leave for a comfy home.

🐶 BO Hopes to Go Home. 🐶
This Beagle boy is a refugee at Last Hope from a Beagle-crowded Kentucky shelters, bursting at the seams with discarded Beagles & other hunting hounds.
He is about 7 yr old, and the only hunting he wants to do is to hunt for someone who will love & embrace him.
