Compassionate Animal Rescue Efforts of Dutchess County - CARE of DC CARE of DC is a "No Kill" organization. We take in animals that are "at risk" and try to find forever homes for them.

CARE of DC is a "No Kill", non profit organization. Our goal is to save as many animals from euthanasia as possible. We take our animals from high kill shelters and work to rehabilitate them and find forever homes. Our organization works closely with other rescues and shelters that share in our values. We have developed a strong network of "no kill" partners and we assist them on a regular basis.

We take in corporate donations, warehouse them and then work to distribute the donated food and supplies to our partners in need.

Tomorrow is Adoption Day!

Don’t forget to stop by and meet all of our adorable dogs and puppies searching for their forever homes!

We’ll be open from 11 AM to 5 PM at our shelter, located at 60 Smith Crossing Road, Wappingers Falls.

Everyone is welcome to visit, but remember an approved application is required to adopt! You can submit yours today at careofdc.org.

✨ Transformation Thursday! ✨

Two more of our Wallkill hoarding dogs were groomed today and wow, what a difference! They don’t even look like the same dogs. 💕

When they first arrived, they were matted from head to toe and scared of almost everything. Today, they’re clean, comfortable, and feeling like brand-new pups. 🐾

A huge thank-you to Emma at Mutts Mansion who took her time and treated them with such patience and care. These makeovers are more than just cosmetic — they’re the first step toward a fresh start and a happy future. ❤️

We were recently asked for help in rehoming 30 parakeets! 🐦💚

As you can see, they’re all beautiful, healthy and come in a variety of colors.

The adoption fee is $50 per pair, and we’re hoping to find loving homes for all of them soon.

We have three adorable male chinchillas, approximately two years old, looking for a loving home. They come with their large cage and all accessories, so they’re ready to settle right in!

Mama Cass's sweet little pups were neutered today & are ready for their forever homes! Their sister has an appointment first thing in the morning to head home with her new family, but John & Denny are still waiting. They've had a ton on attention, but no one has made an appointment to come for them. They love to snuggle & play & are the cutest little fluff balls we have ever seen!
And their precious Mama has the very best disposition in the world. She loves all people & dogs. She's housebroken and would love a home to call her own with a family to adore her. She's happy to accompany you on outings, or hang out on the couch. She walks perfectly on a leash & we honestly cannot find one thing about her that isn't to be loved. 🐾 It’s official — Mamacita’s hungry little hippos are 4 weeks old today! 🍼

They’ve been started on puppy milk replacer mixed with canned food into a tasty little slurry.

Mamacita is doing her best to keep up with her growing crew but that's a lot of mouths to feed! If you’d like to help us care for these little ones, we’ve added our Amazon Wish List link in the comments below. Every bit helps keep those tiny bellies full and Mama healthy too! ❤️

The sisters at Marist University are fostering sweet Lilly, and she’s quickly become part of their sisterhood! She’s completely house-trained, walks beautifully on a leash, and loves everyone she meets, people and dogs alike.

Today was a big day for one of our hoarding case dogs!
When we first brought him in, one of our team members spent hours carefully cutting away painful mats with a pair of scissors. But today, he got to visit a professional groomer — and the difference is incredible.

The mats were so severe and tight to his skin that they came off in two solid pieces from his front legs (you can see them in the picture).
