Compassionate Animal Rescue Efforts of Dutchess County - CARE of DC

Compassionate Animal Rescue Efforts of Dutchess County - CARE of DC CARE of DC is a "No Kill" organization. We take in animals that are "at risk" and try to find forever homes for them.

CARE of DC is a "No Kill", non profit organization. Our goal is to save as many animals from euthanasia as possible. We take our animals from high kill shelters and work to rehabilitate them and find forever homes. Our organization works closely with other rescues and shelters that share in our values. We have developed a strong network of "no kill" partners and we assist them on a regular basis.

We take in corporate donations, warehouse them and then work to distribute the donated food and supplies to our partners in need.

🐾💗I have been adopted! 💗🐾

Meet Pecan!
A super friendly and playful little lady looking for her forever home!
Pecan's mama was a Schipperke mix, a breed known for their agility and intelligence. Schipperkes are often called "little captains" because they were originally bred to be watchdogs on boats.
They are also known for their beautiful black coats and fox-like faces.
Unfortunately we do not the breed of her dad.
All of her siblings have found their homes, but Pecan is still waiting for her perfect family to come along. If you're interested in adopting this sweet girl, please visit CAREOfDC.org to submit an adoption application.

💗I have been adopted💗

Meet Ruby, a sweet 6-month-old girl who’s looking for her forever. She’s spent almost her whole life in the shelter, sharing a kennel with her sister. But recently, her sister was adopted and Ruby is heart broken 💔

Despite growing up in a shelter, Ruby remains an incredibly sweet, gentle soul with so much love to give.💖
She’s friendly with everyone she meets — people, other dogs, and we believe she’d do great with cats too, thanks to her calm and friendly nature. She has spent some time in a foster home recently, and did amazing, she’s just about potty trained!
Ruby has so much potential to be an amazing companion, and we know there’s someone out there who can help heal her heart and give her the love she deserves. If you think it could be you, send us a message or fill out an application today 🐾

We are thrilled to announce that we have been awarded a generous $20,000 lifesaving investment from Petco Love This incredible support will make a significant impact on our mission to save and care for pets in need, pets like Cody pictured here. When one of our rescue partners visited the shelter, Cody was scheduled for euthanasia. He needed an eye removal, heartworm treatment, and neutering, which were beyond their financial capacity. Thanks to the generous investment from Petco Love, we were able to take on Cody's medical needs. As a result, he was adopted and is now thriving in his new home!

Meet Honey! 🍯

Honey is a sweet 3-year-old pup who is ready to find her forever home! 🏡

This adorable girl was once a mama, and now she's looking for a family to love her back. She’s great with kids, cats, and loves cuddling up for affection. Whether it’s playing, going for walks, or enjoying a car ride, she’s up for it all! 🥰

She’s also potty trained and has the perfect balance of playful energy and cuddle time. While we’re still getting to know her with other dogs, she’s sure to bring love and joy to the right home. 💖

Interested in giving her the forever home she deserves? Send us a message or put in an application today 🐾

Merry Christmas from CARE of DC🎄 🐾

A HUGE thank you to everyone who participated in our Home for the Holidays foster program! Because of your kindness, our shelter dogs got to experience the warmth and love of a home for Christmas. It means the world to them (and us!) 🙏🏼

Here are some heartwarming photos of our pups enjoying their time with their temporary families. 🥰

Dear Santa, Thank you for working your magic with Rukus. We heard he went home for the holiday's. We would like to ask you for a Christmas miracle of our own. You see, me and my friends were put into a small box and someone taped it shut. They didn't put any holes in the box so it's a miracle that we didn't suffocate. But that wasn't the worst part, they dumped us outside of Petco in Middletown, on the side of the building where it was dark. The temperature was only about 10 degrees that night. Thankfully for us, an employee was out collecting carts and he heard us scratching to get out of the box. He had no idea what was making the noise but he carried us inside. Everyone gathered around as they cut the box open. I heard someone say "look at these poor babies, they're starving and cold". To be honest, we were not cared for very well by our owner. There were doubts about whether a couple of us would even survive. Well it's been a few days and all 5 of us are alive. What we want now is to find a home where we will be loved and cared for. We are all super friendly and we aren't holding any grudges. Here's a video of us eating our first meal at CARE of DC. As you can see, we were really hungry! Please share our story and help us find our happy ending!

Congratulations to Donna. She was the lucky winner of our wreath raffle. We hope she wins big on the scratch offs! 💰💵

Dear Santa,

It happened!!! I got a home for the holidays 🥰

These very nice people came today and took me to their home to experience my very first Christmas!

This cozy warm couch is so much more comfortable than my kennel. I’m so grateful for this vacation!

Make sure all my Facebook friends who made this possible are on the nice list! ❤️

Love,
Rukus
