Sometimes when life gets challenging, people need to hear a story with a happy ending. We have two to share about recent adoptions! In spite of his amazing personality, our beautiful husky Koa waited patiently as one of our longest residents. Then his world turned around when his new Dad came along looking for a side kick and copilot. Koa is now happily hanging out at car shows, where our wonderful volunteer Diana had a chance to run into him and steal some kisses. It's pretty clear how happy this boy is! Our other fairy tale ending is Logan. He had a rough start in life with minimal socialization. Everything in the world was scary to poor Logan, and he shut down. There were days he didn't want to walk 10 feet out the door. When we realized that he would flourish in the presence of other confident well-balanced dogs, our amazing volunteer Karen and family opened their home to Logan to spend some time with their pack. He blossomed! The happy dog that we knew was inside quickly began to emerge. Logan's adoption soon followed as it became obvious he was right where he belonged, as a permanent member of their family. Koa and Logan are now living their happily ever afters, proof that happy endings still are all around us.

Hi, I’m Zach!
You might remember me… the little dog wandering all alone, too terrified to let anyone near (pictures below) People hadn’t been kind to me, and I have scars to prove it 😔

But don’t worry, because guess what!! I’m safe now🥰 I was finally caught — and not to be hurt, but to be loved! And now I’m the sweetest, cuddliest boy who just wants a family of my own. I think i like other dogs, too!

So many kind people shared my posts to help me get found. Now… will you share my post again so I can finally find my forever family? 🏡🩷

Cowboy is still looking for a forever home! 💔

This handsome boy was one of the pups mentioned in yesterday’s post—sadly found abandoned right here in our community 😔.
Despite everything he’s been through, Cowboy has nothing but love to give! 💕

We’re not sure yet how Cowboy does with other animals, but we’re happy to set up a meet-and-greet to find out before you take him home 🏡.

"Two hours. Nine emails. Countless pets needing a place to go.
We stepped away for just a short time and came back to a flood of pleas:
‘Can you take my dog?’
‘Can you help this stray?’
‘Can you make room for one more from a partner shelter?’

Our hearts break every time we have to say, ‘We’re full.’
Because behind every email is a face… a wagging tail, a purr, a family in crisis.

Every dog you see in these photos was dumped locally in the last few months. We had no choice but to take them in. Not everyone knows this but the DCSPCA no longer accepts strays. We currently hold the contracts for 7 municipalities. To make things worse, all of these dogs are still waiting for their forever homes.

Right now, we are drowning. Kennels are full. Fosters are stretched to their limits. Our team is doing everything we can, but we can’t do it alone.
