Happy Thanksgiving to All.
I’m writing today because of an incident that just happened. This morning we were contacted by a woman whose dog had just passed away. I told her how sorry I was for her loss. She asked the cost and I gave her the options. We then set up a time for her to bring her dog to us. I also asked that she let me know when she was on her way so we could meet her at the gate. I didn’t get any message, she called when she got here. It took us a bit to go and get our utility vehicle to carry the dog. All went fine, so we thought. That was 11:20am on Thanksgiving.
Fast forward to 5:06pm and I got a call from the owner. She wanted to know what the time line was for getting her dogs ashes back. I told her that we try and have them back within a week depending on how many we have in front of them. We do Private Cremations.
Well, she was immediately not happy! She said I should have told her that when she dropped him off. I tried to explain that we do them in the order that they come in and that the cremation process is not quick. She told me that that wasn't true because she had taken one in to somewhere else and got them back the same day. I'm not sure why she chose not to call them today. That is not how we work. The actual cremation process of a medium size dog is at least 4 1/2 hrs not factoring in the heating up and cooling down of our machine.
So, again I tried to talk to her. I have to say that in all the years we have run the Crematory, I have never had a client do this. She said she was coiming back over to pick him up! At that point I said that would probably be best.
Rarely do Karl and I have a day off. Today was that day. my heart is still racing. I feel like we did something wrong but I know that's not true.
Part of the reason I'm writing this is to avoid any confusion in the future. Our service normally takes a week, sometimes two weeks. It all depends on how many animals have come to us at that time. We are NOT a huge business. We don't want to be so large that we can't take time to talk with our clients and give them the time they need.
To the woman that I obviously upset today, if you are reading this, Im sorry for the confusion. I did offer to do him tomorrow and put her in front of others but she still wouldn't have gotten the ashes back till Saturday.
Sorry for venting. This really upset me :(
