Getting the last of the bees back north later than usual has put me a month behind on grafting queens.
Yesterday was spent getting bees ready to move to outyards and setting up a few cell starters to produce queens for July splits!
Today is finally grafting day!!
I'll do 2 smaller rounds 5 days apart. This should produce over 200 queens for splits.
Gettin back on track is always harder than stayin on schedule!

Happy Independence Day friends!

July's calendar is jam packed!
From meetings to parties and we've scheduled 3 stops on the MEET YOUR BEEKEEPER TOUR!

July 12th we'll have the booth set up at Schoharie Lilly Festival! Come see the girls in the observation hive, get a photo with our mascot BUZZY, sample honey and honey products harvested by us right here in Schoharie County!
July 19th I'm honored to have been invited to E. Worcester Honeybee Supply for their "Coffee with a Beekeer" event! Stop over to their shop between 10:00 & 12:00 for coffee, donuts, and to talk all things bees and beekeeping!
Todd has done great things with the new shop located on rt 7 in East Worcester!
July 26th I'll be back at Indian Ladder Farms to continue where we left off in May! If you missed the first event there, don't worry! We'll definitely review and answer all questions!
This seminar will run from 1:00-3:00ish.......
I look forward to seeing everyone at these events!

Ive always said that I get to meet so many great people because of the bees!
I can add this group of folks to that list!
Every 2-3 weeks I make the trip to Albany to work with the group at Normanskill Pollinator Sanctuary . This past Saturday I pulled mite samples, inspected every colony, and even made some swarm cell splits!
I'm certainly grateful to be able to spend time with this organization!

Due to the extreme heat this afternoon, I've decided to give my staff the rest of.............hold on.
Due to the extreme heat this afternoon, I spent time unloading the truck and organizing equipment in the warehouse.
Certainly no airflow, but it beat being in a bee jacket in the middle of a field!!

IF YOU EVER WONDER WHAT IT IS LIKE TO BE A BEEKEEPER...
Don't look at the honey.
Look at the hands.

Full of bubbles.
Out of smoke.
From stings that no longer hurt... because the soul learned to ignore the pain.

Being a beekeeper is not having hives.
Living in the flesh is the invisible battle of every bee.
It's fighting climate, pests, pesticides..
and sometimes, against loneliness.

No cameras.
There is no applause.
Only you...
your suit...
the buzz...
and that hidden fear that every box might be empty.

And you know what's harder?
That the world still doesn't understand what you do.
They don't know that while you working in silence...
you're sustaining the life of the planet.

🐝 Today is not your day.
Today is the day of those who fight for everyone and receive no thanks from anyone.

Happy Beekeeper's Day.
He who burns, he who bleeds, he who sows life... even though they don't see it.
