Gizmo is showing remarkable improvement in his first week of board and train. As a high-drive American Micro Bully with a tendency to assert dominance, Gizmo initially displayed behaviors like grabbing the leash with his mouth to take it from his handler and attempting to take things from his handler's hand. However, we're observing significant strides in his focus, respect, and impulse control. He's becoming less bossy and demonstrating more respect towards his handler. While there's still much work ahead, we're pleased with the progress Gizmo is achieving.
Aneto has been known to charge at large vehicles on the walk. This is something we have been working on and, we have seen great improvement. π
Little Gizmo did great with his leash lesson this morning. He is paying attention to what his handler is doing and checking in more. π
Gizmo is currently undergoing a board and train program. He has a strong inclination to bite the leash and toys, particularly demonstrated in a video where he fixated on a toy I claimed as mine by placing my foot over it. Despite my claim, Gizmo displayed a lack of respect by attempting to seize the toy and even vocalizing his discontent. This behavior suggests that Gizmo may have been overly indulged in the past, leading him to believe that throwing tantrums could yield desired outcomes.
It's important to recognize that Gizmo's behavior isn't entirely his fault; he simply hasn't been taught to be respectful and make better decisions. My responsibility is to guide him in learning to make more appropriate choices and to foster respect. Throughout the video, Gizmo initially displayed a bratty demeanor but progressed to responding to commands like "leave it" and acknowledging leash corrections, redirecting his attention from the ball to me, which is the desired outcome.
My objective is to shift Gizmo's focus from objects of fixation, like the ball, towards me, establishing a healthier dynamic. Through consistent training and reinforcement, Gizmo can unlearn his undesirable habits and develop the capacity to make better choices. I am optimistic that with dedication and effort, Gizmo can overcome his challenges and thrive in his training program. We are committed to helping him achieve his potential.
Demi is a five month old puppy. This was her very first training session. It's evidence that starting the basics when they are still pups is a great thing to do. It also creates a wonderful bond right at the beginning. Demi did awesome! She is very focused and followed my lead.
What we expect from Chance is good manners. Chance's new favorite thing is this squeaky ball. What I asked Chance to do here is give me his ball then, control himself by holding a down while I throw the ball. To get permission to go get the ball he needs to give me eye contact. This is very much a challenging exercise for a young dog. Im asking for lots of self control. This right here folks is great obedience and perfect manners. Awesome job Chance!

Working Mari's obedience and self control this morning.
Mari can be a little ball obsessed. Here we are working to learn some boundaries when playing with the ball. She is an excellent student. Her parents have done a lot of work with her. I'm just adding to it by asking her to show me self control and ask for permission to get the ball.
A quick video to illustrate what I mean when I tell my clients your energy with your dog is important. Here is a real-time example of excited energy vs calm energy.
Bella has come a long way from the dog who would pull you around and charge at cars.
