"This week on the TAILS program at SCI Pine Grove, we're shining the spotlight on the incredible holiday props created by our talented residents! Despite the challenges of working with limited materials, the guys have risen to the occasion, using their creativity and resourcefulness to craft unique and festive displays for our furry friends' holiday photos. From cleverly repurposed cardboard to imaginative uses of everyday objects, it's amazing to see what they come up with! Not only do the pups love getting their pictures taken in front of these fun backdrops, but the guys also have a blast working together as a team to bring them to life. It's a great way for them to bond and build camaraderie while giving back to the community. We're thrilled to share this special behind-the-scenes look at the Tails program and can't wait to see what they come up with next!

We have had many emergencies with mushroom ingestion lately. These steps will help us determine if it is toxic or not.
1. Did you pet ingest the mushroom?
2. How long ago did the pet ingest it?
3. Is you pet displaying any signs of toxicity? (Vomiting, hypersalivation, lethargy, tremors, disorientation, seizures)
4. TAKE A PIC of the mushroom or bring one with you. We have a group of experts who can identify mushrooms quickly

It's HOT out there, Earth Animals!🥵
..which means it's time for our annual reminder to be mindful of your dog's needs during the hot summer days. While exercise and daily walks are always needed, make sure you're taking the appropriate precautions for your particular pup based on their breed, weight, age, and the specific conditions.

If you must spend time outdoors in extreme heat conditions, offer plenty of water, find shade, and walk them on grass (or wear booties!) instead of hot pavement.

June 23rd, 2024. Pups With Purpose event Canceled

BE WELL WARRIOR EVENT- It is with great regret that I am posting this message to cancel our Pups with Purpose event planned for Sunday, June 23 at Werner Park. We have had a limited response despite advertisements. The importance of service and companion dogs is still a resource we want to ensure our Warriors learn more about and access. Therefore, we will approach from a different direction. Our resource event last year included service animals and will do the same again. We will also explore the possibility of a meet & greet with service dogs combined with an adoption event with area shelters. Thank you.

Uncovering the Power of Prison Pups

This month, come take a sneak peak into the behind-the-scenes, incredible SCI Pine Grove TAILS, program! 🐾

Keep an eye open for every Wednesday in June, The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections will be sharing a new installment of the TAILS program, showcasing the amazing work being done at SCI Pine Grove. 🐾

This week meet the amazing Team: Marine Veteran Scott and Service Dog Rolo. The trainers in the TAILS program got to take part in helping to name this litter of puppies. Born on September 11th, Rolo got his name from Let"s Roll, last words used by Todd Beamer, American passenger on board hijacked United Airlines Flight 93. He and other passengers attempted to retake the plane from hijackers. The entire litter of pups have patriotic names.

This amazing program is made possible through a partnership between SCI Pine Grove and New Hope Assistance Dogs, demonstrating the transformative power of teamwork and community.
