We got a pupdate on Nash (Toblerone from Abbey’s February 2021 litter). He got to see Santa. Seems he’s made the nice list, but all he really wants is all the pets 🐶💙🎅

*National Pet Wellness Month - Nutrition*

What and how you feed your Saint Bernard is a huge factor in his/her overall health and wellness. Check out the article in this link for some valuable information about nutrient levels to watch for to make sure the food you are using for your Saint Bernard is appropriate and well balanced:

Some other considerations I think are relevant when choosing what and how to feed your Saint Bernard are as follows:
Dogs fed a single meal per day are twice as likely to bloat as those fed their portion in 2 or more meals throughout the day.
Dogs that are free fed are much more prone to obesity and orthopedic disorders.
Foods that include soybean meal or that have a fat or oil in the first 4 ingredients have been shown to produce a much higher incidence of bloat.
Rosemary oil is an ingredient sometimes found in dog foods that has been linked to seizures in dogs.
Many dogs with skin problems, frequent hot spots, recurrent ear infections, bouts of tummy upset may have a sensitivity or allergy to an ingredient in their food (chicken is a common allergen on dogs and a main ingredient in many dog foods) and changing foods can be a game changer!

*National Pet Wellness Month -Weight*

Maintaining an appropriate weight and body condition is a very key part of your pet’s overall wellness. Studies have shown that even a few lbs can make a significant impact in a pet’s health and longevity. A dog at its proper weight will have more energy, healthier joints and organ systems and most likely a longer lifespan. How do you know if your saint is his proper weight though? How do you know you’re really feeding your saint the correct amount? Use Body Conditioning Scoring and feed your dog according to his BCS, not what it says on your dog food bag!
It sounds simple in theory, but different breeds can have quite a different body shape when in peak condition, so it’s good to know our breed and what their bodies should look like. It’s National Pet Memorial Day, and I wanted to share a couple of my lost loves. This picture is almost 9 years old, taken during my first pregnancy. The saint on my right is Jasper, my very first Saint Bernard. He was from a “we just want one litter” situation, and I found him by accident while helping a friend with her dog at the vet. He was a dream come true though, and was a loving, loyal and funny companion. The dog to my left is Hazel. She was also a wonderful, loving companion. She was the kind of dog that always knew how you’re feeling, and she always watched over my babies like they were hers.

*PawTree product recommendation!
Bliss has a sensitive stomach, eats a different food than all of my other dogs (gi formula) and has been the gassiest animal I’ve ever been around. This is an issue I find worrisome since trapped gasses could lead to bloat. PawTree’s Gastro Pro Plus is one of the products I was most excited to try, and it hasn’t let me down! We are only a little over a week into using it, and the extreme gassiness is gone! I would definitely recommend trying this one out of you also have a pup with a sensitive belly or who tends to be highly gassy. This is Dumplin. She was not born here, but she is currently in our care and looking for a forever home. She is a purebred but unregistered rough coated Saint Bernard. She is a 12 week old little girl that is extremely loving and energetic. She is a bold puppy that does well in new situations and has been socialized with people and dogs. She is current on shots and dewormer, vet checked and will be microchipped. We have also started work on some training basics. Placing as companion only with a spay contract.
