This Fall has been full of fun meet ups for our Social Groups! From our Fall Hiking Group Class @ Sky Meadows State Park to our Howl-O-Ween Pack Walk through Old Town Warrenton we have had so much fun together.

But that is not all! This holiday season will see the return of our Turkey Trot for the SPCA and Christmas Light Pack Walks. We will also have new events like our Client Appreciation Party and our participation in the Warrenton Christmas Parade!

Another dog match success! Our friend, Anna Russau has been fostering Tiger for a long time through Mid-Atlantic Jack Rescue. When she came to him, he had a broken pelvis and she raised money for his medical bills and nursed him back to health. When he was healthy, she brought him to a few socialization events and training sessions.

When Jennifer called me looking for a new best friend to shine some light in her new home, I knew she was who Tiger had been waiting for. Congratulations Jennifer and Tiger!

This is my dog, Sailor! He is an assertive, calm dog. He takes himself too seriously, even when he is playfully chasing his chuck-it balls. He dutifully follows me wherever I go, though he is very good at making everyone else feel like they might be his favorite person.

Most importantly for me to keep in mind as his owner, is that Sailor has a low tolerance for any dog who is expressing more excitement and less impulse control than he is.

My lovely fellow dog owners! I just wanted to drop a tip for all of you who have had a medical/ first-aid concern for your dog.

I just had a great experience with Chewy's Vet Connect. Sailor has been licking his paw and I was able to connect with a vet within minutes, show her pictures and ask her if there was anything I could do at home. I pulled a plant burr out of his paw a week or so ago and the irritation caused him to lick and probably produce a mild yeast infection. She asked me what I had at home, told me what would work and suggested OTC products for a simple skin irritation. It was nice to have my concern addressed IMMEDIATELY without having to wait for a scheduled appointment with his vet.

I ADORE Sailor's vet, but the vet industry is inundated with clients and I feel that Sailor's issue did not need to take up a slot on her calendar that could go to a dog who was really sick.

Having worked in the vet industry I have also seen well-meaning folks who have thrown everything but the kitchen sink at a potential yeast infection between the toes and ended up causing a worse infection (I'm talking coconut oil, hydrogen peroxide, garlic, everything!) :( This is a great way to get professional, sensible advice for these concerns. Obviously, it does not replace seeing your vet in person, but instead could be used as first-aid advice.
