So often the tiniest of our creatures give me the best therapy from our busy lives.

Today was the day! Bees are in their new home!

Only one sting upon installing!

Myla and Kelly are mesmerized by them!

These creatures are fascinating and so good for our environment!

One even landed on Myla’s cheek and didn’t want to get off!

This season in our life is all about new adventures!

We decided to add some beehives to our farm! We planted plenty of fruit trees and other goodies for them to forage and pollinate.

This photo is gorgeous. The sky is so blue!

On January 24th at around midnight, we lost our home to a house fire.

We lost the place all of our wonderful soaps and other products were made.

Everyone made it out safely and the farm was spared any fire.

However, we have all struggled a bit. Most of our possessions are gone. I’ve struggled with what’s next. Both for our family and the farm.

We are living in a camper on the farm while our new house is built on a different section of the property.

The farm has become an even bigger obsession for me, trying to determine the next steps for growth, revitalization, and so much more. We won’t have a new house for a while, so milking has been put on hold(we don’t have a refrigerator big enough to hold all we milk), which means making soap and other things are also on hold.

I am excited to share with you some things happening on the farm though! It’s been a time of much needed joy mixed with all the sadness. Please stay tuned!

How many goats can fit in a hay ring?!? And yes, those are old dryer drums that we use to hold hay.

Our Story

We are the Rus family. Kelly, Danyelle, Ondrea, Parker, Myla, and Kinsley. Our story is one of dreams, passion, and hard work. I, Danyelle, am a granddaughter of a farmer. A part of me feels like farming is in my blood. Kelly is a man who just likes to go along with crazy ideas. While we may be living what seems like our dream life now; that wasn’t always the case.

I, Danyelle, have always had three desires in this life. To be a mom, a teacher, and a farmer. I fight for what I believe in and always throw passion into every goal. I became a mom in 2006 when our first daughter was born. I taught in a daycare center while she was a baby. I then had our son and became a stay at home mom. My husband and I went on to have two more baby girls. I also became a homeschool mom and used my passion for teaching to enrich the lives of my own children. Two of my three desires had been fulfilled.

Lots of things happened in the years to follow. Some hard, some good. It is life after all and life can get messy. I still had this desire to start a farm. I wanted my kids to grow up knowing the joys and pains of raising livestock. I wanted them to know that hard work gives reward in the foods we eat and the products we can make right off our own land. I wanted to feel like I was carrying on the legacy of my grandfather. One day Kelly and I decided we were moving to Georgia. We bought 9.5 acres of land with a great house for our family. The research began.
