DO DOODLES SHED? YES! If a Doodle sheds, why is there not hair all over the house?
When you breed a curly coat like a Poodle with a double coat like lets say a Golden Retriever, the pup is born with a combination coat. They have both curly coat AND undercoat. As a result there are two completely different growth patterns. Since the hair follicles do not grow in sync with each other, this causes the coat to tangle more easily.
When the undercoat sheds, it gets caught up in the curly coat which works like Velcro and holds onto all that hair. It’s very important to BRUSH & COMB your doodle regularly so that you can brush out the loose undercoat that is trapped in the curly coat. This trapped undercoat is one of the number one reasons that doodles get matted.
Some doodles need to be brushed daily while other can go a day in between. If you can't get a comb through from skin to end of coat, that is matting.
