Special warm thanks to PetSmart - Warsaw, IN and PetSmart Charities for allowing their adoption partners to bring in FIV+ and FeLV+ cats to be ADOPTED! 🐾♥️🐾
Win win!

📚 Our BACK TO BASICS SERIES: FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus)

FIV is a virus specific to cats and is often erroneously referred to as "cat AIDS." It is similar to AIDS in that it attacks and weakens the immune system and there is no cure. Reliable information about FIV is plentiful on the internet. We encourage you to learn more about it!

Here are some quick facts:
➡FIV is transmitted through deep bite wounds.
➡FIV is NOT transmissible to humans or dogs.
➡Cats with FIV can live long, healthy, happy and normal lives!
➡Intact males with outdoor access are most likely to be infected.
➡Kittens may be infected before, during, or after birth (while nursing).
➡FIV is quickly diagnosed through a blood test.
➡If you have an indoor/outdoor cat, you risk its FIV status every time it goes outdoors.
➡FIV+ cats CAN live with non-infected cats as long as they can co-exist peacefully. (Remember, this virus is primarily transmitted through deep bite wounds. If the cats don't fight, there's little worry about transmission.)
➡In the U.S., approximately 2.5-5% percent of healthy cats are infected with FIV.

📢 EDUCATION IS KEY!!!!! FIV+ cats have a VERY difficult time getting adopted because of their status. In the past, they were immediately euthanized instead of put up for adoption. Help CHANGE THE PARADIGM! Educate others about the virus and how cats can live a long, healthy, normal life with FIV. Manage expectations. Let's get these cats in homes!

📢 If you're in rescue or doing TNR, please note:
➡Before you place a cat for adoption (or send it to foster in a home with other cats), it should be tested for FIV. Adopt that cat out with full disclosure about its FIV status.
➡Beware of false positives in kittens under 6 months of age!
➡You can place FIV+ cats in homes with other cats that are not FIV+. Educate the adopter and make sure the cats are not likely to fight with each other.
➡We don't FIV test the cats we TNR. Alley Cat Allies also holds this position.

🚨 UPDATE 🚨
The LAST cat held out until YESTERDAY! But they got her!!! Yes HER! Had they been unable to trap her, they very easily could have been in the same position this fall.

First trapping of the year under our belts! And we are none worse for the wear! ✨

14 kitties, 13 to Humane Fort Wayne & 1 to Lakeland! Please send all your pawsitive thoughts and prayers that the 1 last hold out kitty will be trapped tomorrow! 😬🫠

⭐️ 3 females out of 13, ONE was in heat! 🙀 15 cats would surely have become 55 by the end of summer.

Don’t worry- they have 3 wonderful caretakers watching out for them. We will get that last one with a few tricks we have up our sleeves! 😼😹

These kitties were paid for through generous donations and support from our community and we are so very grateful.❤️🐱

We are proud to present our 2024 Statistics! ❗️We're looking forward to an outstanding 2025, which marks our FIFTH YEAR as Federally recognized 501(c)3 organization! 5 years!!! ❤️

Since 2021, we've successfully partnered with Humane Fort Wayne, Elkhart County Feral Cat Coalition, Lakeland Animal Care, Humane Society of Elkhart County, Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control, Line Street Animal Hospital, Animal Hospital of Syracuse, Bourbon Veterinary Hospital, Monon Veterinary Clinic, Cornerstone Veterinary Clinic, Parrett Veterinary Clinic, Silver Lake Small Animal Veterinary Clinic, Kosciusko County Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County, Public Vet and Pet Friendly Services to TNR a GRAND TOTAL OF 1,491 feline sweet & spicy souls.🐱🩷

Thank YOU Kosciusko County. For supporting us. For showing up for the unfortunate victims of humans irresponsibility of NOT getting their cats fixed. PLEASE continue to do so. PLEASE continue to be patient with us as we CONTINUE to grow, and INCREASE the wonderful partnerships we have.

A VERY SPECIAL thank you to Fulton County Animal Center, Indiana, from Janet Showley & Jenny Richcreek Shumaker, and now Jaci McCallen too. You've been HUGE encouragers of us, and we simply can't thank you enough. We will continue to seek your wisdom and discernment as we continue to trudge forward! ❤️

~🐾It's hip to be tipped🐾~

❗️Update: According to our sweet friends at Furry Fix, our grand total, -if mathematically computed- would mean we've PREVENTED 1,000,000 cats! (The total of new kittens NOT born from our 1,491 in a 4 year period is over ONE MILLION)🙀

👀 BARN KITTIES 👀

👀 BARN KITTIES 👀

UPDATE: All 3 have found a barn! Thank you all for sharing!

🐾Looking for Barn Cats? We have 3 Ready for Adoption!🐾

Do you have a barn, stable, or workshop in need of natural pest control?🐱🐭 We currently have three semi-feral female cats who would thrive in a safe outdoor environment.

These girls are not people-friendly, but with freedom and a change of environment, they may come around on their own terms - though that is not guaranteed. Whether they become friendly or prefer to keep their distance, they'll still make excellent working cats, helping to keep your property rodent free!

✅Spayed
✅Up-to-date on vaccines

They are looking for a safe outdoor home with food, water, and a warm shelter. If you can provide that, they'll return the favor with their natural hunting skills!

📍If you are interested in giving these hard working girls a home, please reach out!

Anyone looking 👀 for barn cats? Great mousers!

Anyone looking 👀 for barn cats? Great mousers!

We currently have quite a few cats listed as "Rodent Responders."

Rodent responders are cats that thrive in environments with minimal human interaction, such as barns or workshops, where they can roam freely and put their natural mousing skills to work. This creates a win-win relationship between the cat and their adopter.

If you’re looking for a hardworking mouser to keep your space pest-free, now is the perfect time to adopt a rodent responder! All of our rodent responders have waived adoption fees.

Visit us this week to meet your new rodent responder!
