The Last Resort Wildlife Refuge needs your help!

Nancy and her team are on the front lines aiding Wildlife in the midst of the Greenwood Lake Fire currently being fought.

Our former adopter writes:
"During this particular rescue, she texted me to let me know she hiked into the fire bed in the area behind our home, to save an injured bear suffering from smoke inhalation. (our neighborhood bear❤️)

As she and her crew worked to help the bear, they had to endure not only the smoke and flames but also getting buckets of water dumped on them by helicopters trying to contain the fire. (it was a cold windy day)
Nancy and her crews dedication and bravery is just incredible!"

The Last Resort Wildlife Rescue is a 501c3, nonprofit animal rescue and survives 100% on donations.

Our former serial foster/adopter extraordinaire Pat could use some help!

Penny and Buddy were adopted in 2017 by our rescue and were found dumped in Sullivan county a year after their owner passed....

Pat writes: "This is Penny and Buddy I am fostering them until I can find them forever home.

Their story is a little complicated. Buddy and Penny were adopted to a gentleman back in 2017 from a rescue that I was working for. The owner loved them very much and took great care of them. Sadly, he was diagnosed with cancer and passed away in 2022.

Even though the Rescue is no longer in operation, GDRF had reached out to his daughter to offer our services to help find Buddy and Penny a good home. She informed them that she was going to keep them.

I kept in touch with her periodically with the fear of her not being able to care for them properly since back in July 2023, she had a GoFundMe page that stated she could not afford to feed them.

With the help of Humane Society of Port Jervis/Deerpark she was sent 15 bags of dog food to help offset costs.

Fast forward to a few weeks later and Pat sees a post on Facebook that Penny and Buddy were running the roads about a mile from her home. Pat located them and brought them to her home to ensure their safety.

Buddy and Penny are approximately 10 years of age and would do best in a home without small animals or small children.

Pat has a home full of rescue animals in addition to a working farm and could really use some help with someone fostering these two before the winter is upon us - they are currently residing in a heated barn but deserve a home of their own - maybe you have some space to spare?

Mama Bonnie Lee and The 11 puppies arrived over a week ago. They were in an over crowded shelter in Alabama. The whole family was going to be euthanized if no one could foster. So they found their way to our home in Middletown NY..

They are a lovely bunch of paws looking for their families. They will be ready to go to leave us in a couple of weeks.

Our dear friend, Helen (serial foster and adopter for GDRF) has taken on Herbie and could use some help!

"Herbie is a beautiful, now very loving, 19 year old Mule. He was taken in by Helen King at Saddle Brook Farm Animal Rescue after not being wanted by anyone. He spent his whole life on a farm being abused by his owner which is how he developed this massive bulge on his face. The cause was blunt force trauma which has now resulted in a polyp that constricts his breathing. X-rays have already been completed and CAT scans need to be done to confirm a successful surgery. Just that cost is $2500. The surgery will then be anywhere from $15,000 - $20,000. You were unable to get anywhere near him when he first came to the farm. After 6 months, he now wants all the love in the world. He’s learned to trust, and learned that people are good. Herbie can live another 15 years if WE can help him. Please, please find it in your hearts to donate and share to everyone you know. Her farm is a 501 (c), so she survives solely from donations. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions. He doesn’t have much time. We appreciate everyone who has helped and continues to spread the word about this awesome guy. Thank you so much!"

🚨🚨🚨🚨Silvia is in desperate need of rescue commitments for some amazing dogs sitting at Bladen. 🚨🚨🚨🚨

As we're sure everyone has noticed - dogs are getting dumped and abandoned at record rates....all those COVID dogs everyone jumped to adopt because they were home are now languishing in shelters at risk of being put to sleep.

This isn't just a Southern issue anymore - locally on social media we've seen at least 12 dogs be abandoned in parking lots, tied to fire hydrants or just let loose to fend for themselves.

In order for Rescues to commit to these dogs they need sponsorship, fostering or adoption.

This is where you can help -

🐶 If you can't foster - sponsor a dog's care to help the rescues commiting to these dogs.

🐶 If you can't sponsor, open your home to one of these dogs - it's temporary and most rescues provide you with everything you'll need.

Annnnnd/Or

🐶 If you think it's time to add to your family- go meet some of the available dogs and bring one home - this makes space for the next soul to have a chance at a forever home.

If you are able to help - please reach out and we will put you in touch with a responsible rescue in your area and make some magic happen.

Time is of the essence - as dogs get commitment new dogs enter the system. It's a never ending cycle but with your help, maybe, just maybe we can give some of these dogs a Holiday Miracle.
