Fig is only allowed to have one friend in paddocks… and Levi seems to be the only gelding that can tolerate his antics. 🤣
The latest rescues… they fell out of a nest at maybe 3 days old and we couldn’t get them back to the mom. So far we’ve managed to keep them alive for 3 days. They only need to be kept at 100 degrees and fed 8+ times a day… lucky birds.
Follow me! Lylah is helping to teach a dressage test to 6 year old Lottie. Love the little salutes!
Guppy (aka Flounder) is a wonderful little Shetland type pony that will soon be for sale! He prefers a walk/trot job and doesn’t want to canter.
(Lylah is “tall”, but an acceptable weight at only 18%.)
Lylah grabbed ride #10 for Sailor. He’s now adding a bit of canter each ride!
Go Guppy (aka Flounder)!
Ella found the secret to getting him to canter (we hadn’t seen it yet!)
Big Fig and his little mini-me, Sailor
Very nice round from Bella on Elsa in Green Pony
The kids will love this little canter! It’s nice and easy going.
These are ground exercises I like to go through with unbroke horses to teach yielding different body parts. It gets them used to taking direction from both sides, feeling ropes around them, and being comfortable with a person in different positions. They also get a pretty basic idea of neck reining which is always handy, regardless of discipline.
3 year old Marbles
She’ll get a lot of handling and groundwork this summer, and do more official “under saddle” work in the fall.
Bareback with the vaulting surcingle to hang on to-
Barebacked some ponies out to clean up some fallen sticks in the woods and had to just stack them up.
Ride #3 for Sailor
*the saddle does not fit well at all. We tried it for this ride, then found another to try for the next ride. Sometimes it takes trying MANY saddles to find a good fit. If you had a perfect fit the first saddle you ever tried on a horse, then lucky you. They might look ok at a walk and shift in the trot or canter.
Thank you River Breeze Dog Grooming in Marietta! Daisy is very much enjoying her new haircut.
Melody joined 3 other ponies for the first part of a lesson. She’s learning to stay on the rail. She was much better with mounting today. We ditched the bit/bridle and Lylah rode in just a halter.
Melody has some special needs but would be a very wonderful first pony for some lucky family. She is gentle and kind. We’ll keep going with a refresher and slowly increase some exercise, but she is looking for her own people!
Melody!
She definitely needs a refresher (and her own person!) but she did pretty good today. Lylah worked with her on standing still to mount (she is nervous for the mounting) and we worked with her until she was trotting nicely on the rail.
Melody is looking for a permanent home. She has some maintenance/special needs, but is very gentle and sweet to handle. It looks like the riding will really smooth out quickly. I suspect she has a lot more driving miles than riding, but we haven’t hooked her up yet.
The boys were obedient tonight!
“Here follow me!”
Oh pony…
Today was the first time we’ve seen Melody run in the 5 months she’s been here!
Melody 🎶
Casually looking for a soft-landing home for 12 year old, 11h Melody. I bought her 5 months ago- she was being driven hard while foundered and had pneumonia. She needs continued rehab for the founder but is on the right track- Video is today (on Equioxx and soft ground.) MUST have a drylot and experience.
The good:
Zero spook, loves people and children and they can do ANYTHING with her. She has a long mane they can groom for hours. No bite, no kick, no vices. She really just prefers to walk along slowly but can be convinced to jog. Great size at 11h. She’d love to find a family that wants a safe pony for Littles to hang on, groom, learn to walk/steer and maybe follow along on some trail rides.
She needs a drylot. She is shedding well for spring but some fat deposits suggest EMS. I’ve started an hour in the morning with a muzzle (very tiny hole) to let her out a bit with friends. She is very bottom and happily would be a companion. Genuinely interested in people and comes over when called. She still has some respiratory stuff (wheeze/cough) and that might be permanent due to lung damage.
References a must. She can hang out here as long as she needs with continued care, but she loves kids and it would be nice to see her have her own family and a bit of a job. Our program work load is too active for her to be very useful for us.
