Meet Dr. DeLuca, one of our incredible Associate Veterinarians here at Palisades Vet Clinic — a proud, independent clinic serving the D.C. community with personalized, compassionate care.

A D.C. native, Dr. DeLuca brings a wealth of experience to our team. After earning her veterinary degree from Virginia Tech, she completed an internship and residency in animal reproduction and went on to serve as a faculty member at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. Since returning to the mid-Atlantic in 2011, she has worked in both general and specialty practice before finding her home with us at Palisades.

When she’s not caring for patients, you’ll likely find her outdoors riding her bike, hiking, or camping with her loyal pup, Kansas.

If you’ve had a great experience with Dr. DeLuca, let her know she’s appreciated!

📝 Leave a review on Google or Yelp, or send an email to [email protected] — we’ll make sure she sees it!

Meet Dr. Elliott, one of our wonderful Associate Veterinarians here at Palisades Veterinary Clinic! 🐾

Dr. Elliott has been caring for animals since graduating from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in 2003. She began her career in a small animal clinic in Charlottesville VA, but it wasn’t long before she felt the pull of city life and made Washington DC her home.

Growing up in a small town in west Tennessee, Dr. Elliott was always surrounded by animals from cats and mutts to Schnauzers, a Golden Retriever, turtles, and more. Her dream of becoming a veterinarian started early and never let go.

She’s also an accomplished equestrian who competed in the hunter jumper circuit from the age of 8. These days, she still rides for fun with her lively Thoroughbred Hungarian horse Toby. His mom, Little Fat, now enjoys a well-earned retirement back in Tennessee.

Dr. Elliott studied Biology at Washington and Lee University, and today she lives in Cabin John MD with her husband, two kids, and three beloved rescued pets. When she’s not at the clinic, you might find her cheering on the Capitals or Giants, going for a jog, testing out new recipes, or working on home renovations—often with a furry friend nearby.

If your pet has received care from Dr. Elliott, we’d love to hear your story! Feel free to share your happy tails and thank-yous. We pass every one along. 💚🐶🐱

A Smart Pup’s Guide to Beating the Summer Heat 🐶☀️
Hi there, Palisades fam! It’s me—your favorite clever canine with a message for my fellow four-leggers (and the humans who love us).

Summer is my jam—sunshine, squirrels, and sniffing all the things. But it can get ruff out there, so here’s what I need you to remember:

🐾 Walkies early or late, please. The pavement gets hotter than my favorite nap spot. Protect my paws and let’s stroll when it’s cooler.

💦 Hydration is key! I need lots of fresh water and a shady chill zone. Kiddie pools get bonus tail wags.

🧴 Sunburns are real. Especially for my thin-furred or pink-nosed buddies. Only pet-safe sunscreen, please!

🦠 No mystery puddles! Stagnant water might look tempting, but it’s full of yucky stuff like Giardia and Leptospirosis. Fill my bowl instead!

🔍 Adventure check. After backyard zoomies or park trips, give me a once-over for ticks, scratches, or surprise boo-boos.

🪰 Flea, tick & heartworm meds = YES. Trust me—you don’t want to skip these.

Bonus treat for my humans: Our sister clinic, Union Veterinary Clinic, just dropped a great blog post:
“Pets Need First Aid Too!” by Dr. Gross. It’s packed with practical tips to help you help us when the unexpected happens. Check it out at unionvetclinic.com!

Need a check-up, refill, or just some TLC?

Thanks for being my hero all summer long. Now, how about a belly rub and a frozen treat? 😋🍦

🏥 🧳 Need one more reason to make the switch from a corporate vet clinic to Palisades Veterinary Clinic, a locally owned and family-operated independent practice? 🐕 🐈

🌟 Meet Dr. Dan Shillito—better known as “Dr. Dan”—Medical Director of Palisades Veterinary Clinic, a six-veterinarian, family-owned private practice in Washington, D.C. His path to veterinary medicine wasn’t exactly typical (he jokingly calls it his “midlife crisis”), but it was rooted in a lifelong passion for animal care.

Before earning his DVM from Cornell, Dr. Dan completed a PhD in Animal Behavior, worked as a Smithsonian Fellow at the National Zoo, and served as director of a zoo in Charleston, SC. Eventually, he felt called to help animals more directly and made the leap to vet school.

Today, Dr. Dan leads the Palisades team with a special focus on surgery and chronic pain management. He brings a calm, thoughtful approach to every case—and a strong belief in compassionate, community-focused care. When he’s not at the clinic, he enjoys traveling and spending time with friends and family.
