Whenever we hear a dog getting off the elevator or leaving an apartment, we enter “pause position”, where Hall Ball stops and we make sure we have secured our valuables (for her: the tennis ball, for me: her).

Once we know we won’t surprise another dog, the pause is over and away we go!

Two years ago I decided that the drinks I’d had the night before would be my last.

I think the best way to describe sobriety is that you finally (slowly) learn to see yourself the way your dog sees you. Not constantly questioning if you deserve to take up space, convinced that you’re fundamentally unfixable and that everyone else agrees with the horrible things you think about yourself.

Nope, Haddie was right all along. You don’t need to earn your existence, and sometimes it’s as simple as just being in the moment with a friend, appreciating them for who they are, whoever they are. You deserve love because…you just do.

It’s officially been two of the weirdest, funnest most transformative [positive] years of my life and I’m so grateful to have had my very best friend by my side the whole way,

Today! Today!! Today is probably not Haddie’s birthday.

But it is! Vets need a birthday to put down, so when I adopted my “two or three year old” dog in August of 2020, I thought…let’s call that 2 1/2. So that means her birthday would be be early in the year…

’s birthday is January 19, and who better to share the day with?? Kindness, grit, knowing your own worth and seeing and loving it in others. Being unapologetically yourself. Did I say kindness?

(Haddie hasn’t provided millions of books to children, but she strongly supports the )

So happy 7th(?) birthday(?) to Haddie- she got her annual birthday hot dog, we’re tucked in watching the snow, and being thankful for all of the ways kindness (and hot dogs) finds its way to us.

Day 22 of the advent calendar: down! We have our Peanuts music on the record player, our Charlie Brown Christmas tree, and a sunny day that almost makes you forget it’s 25 degrees. Happy Sunday!

In threw the ball and she just sat. Just sat there. So I went to encourage her and she just sat. So I brought it back, squeaked it, and nothing. I opened the door and she went inside to squeak a different tiny tennis ball. She is the queen of boundaries and self-care.
