Morning Joe: MVP Harris is being criticize and called unserious for wrapping her policy points in personal stories a rhetorical device every politician has used for the ages. It's often defined as the gold standard of speaking.

Here's the thing - undecided voters don't care about policy. If they cared about policy, they would know which party is better on their issues. They wouldn't be undecided.

Now it comes down to emotional resonance. Feelings. Trust. Would they be fun to drink beer with.

When I do debate/interview prep, the first thing is figuring out what questions might be asked. How else would you prepare?

1) You review the game films: other interviews by host or moderator, other interviews or quotes your opponent has given, other interviews or questions related to other races in your district.

2) You search articles and blog posts related to your race or other races up or down ballot in your state or district.

That said, IT IS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE. Any decent politician or campaign staff knows what issues are important to the media and your voters. No self-respecting journalist is going to ask "What kind of tree would you me" in a Presidential debate.

Then you help your principal craft the best answers to the questions. This is standard debate prep. It would be campaign malpractice to let a candidate just wing it when the stakes are high.

Kamala was prepared. If Trump didn't do debate prep, that's on him and his staff.

Sometimes you hear people say they want to elect "new blood with fresh ideas to shake things up."

But you never hear anyone running for reelection saying "look at all the shaking up I did with my new blood and fresh ideas."

They run on their ability to compromise and their accomplishments working within the system.

I've never understood why people don't value seniority, experience, and institutional knowledge.
