Creating a Safe Space

Content is removed from Humane Rescue Alliance channels and users are banned when an exchange or piece of content falls into one of the following categories:

Copyright or Trademark Laws. We report pages and accounts that impersonate the Humane Rescue Alliance to the appropriate social media partners and remove content and comments that violate copyright and trademark laws.

Harassment, Bullying, Violence & Threats. We have no tolerance for this and remove comments and content immediately that purposefully targets individuals. Content includes, but is not limited to:
- Images altered to degrade individuals or animals
- Personal information shared, e.g. addresses, phone numbers
- Content that contains specific threats
- Content that promotes or threatens terrorist activity or organized criminal activity

Violent & Graphic Content. We will remove pornographic or excessively violent content or comments shared on Humane Rescue Alliance platforms. This includes content that promotes:
- Gratuitous violence towards people or animals
- Self-injury (including self-harm), su***de
- S*xual violence or exploitation of anyone, including minors

Hate Speech. Organizations and people dedicated to promoting hatred against any groups, including minority or protected groups, are not allowed a presence on our platforms. Any sort of hateful comments towards any individuals or groups based on the following topics will be banned:
- Race
- Ethnicity
- National origin
- Religious affiliation
- S*xual orientation
- S*x, gender, or gender identity
- Serious disabilities or diseases
- Age

Nudity. We will remove comments posted on our accounts that violate the platform standards. When sharing content that may contain nudity on Humane Rescue Alliance social accounts we adhere to the individual platform community standards. By staying spam-free, our platforms have a better chance of fostering meaningful interactions. Our audiences are driven away if they encounter content from other users that is repetitive or too commercial in nature. For that reason, we hide or delete comments that are abusing platforms to post content such as:
- Malware/Phishing:
- Duplicate content over multiple accounts or multiple duplicate updates on one account
- Duplicate replies, comments, or mentions
- Unsolicited replies, comments, or mentions
- Misleading links (e.g. affiliate links, links to malware/clickjacking pages, etc.)

This win that will cap pet rent and security deposits, prohibit breed restrictions, and implement pet-friendly shelter options for people in need.

📣 Foster Sitter Needed for Sweet Delaney!

We’re looking for someone to help care for Delaney, a super sweet 80-pound pup, from January 16th to January 21st (evening pick-up). His current foster will provide everything you need for the week, including food, treats, toys, and a crate!

Here’s why Delaney is such a great house guest:
🐾 He LOVES people and is likely best with older kids or kids comfortable around dogs.
🐾 Potty-trained and crate-trained (though he might whimper a bit before settling in).
🐾 Prefers to be the only pet in the home—he has a prey drive for cats, squirrels, and rats and can resource-guard toys around other dogs.
🐾 A mix of playful and chill—he enjoys enrichment toys, cozying up on the couch, and hanging out with his people.
🐾 Knows basic commands like “sit” and “wait” and is working on leash manners.
🐾 Takes his anxiety meds easily and responds well to redirection.

⚠️ Safety Reminder for Pet Owners in DC ⚠️

Recent incidents of stray voltage on DC sidewalks tragically claimed the lives of two dogs. This serves as a crucial reminder for pet owners to take extra precautions, especially during winter.

Kate Meghji, Humane Rescue Alliance’s COO, advises:
“Rubber-soled boots or booties are a barrier that could be between your dog’s paws and the ground.” Dog shoes can also keep your dog’s paws from making direct contact with road salt: “The salt that people put out—some of it is pet-friendly and some of it is not, and so if it gets in your pet’s paws and they lick it, that could cause some distress.”

🐾 One year ago, on January 3, 2024, Drago’s journey to a brighter future began. When he first came to HRA, he was underweight, coughing and wheezing, and battling multiple health challenges, including a leg injury and skin issues. Thanks to the care he received and the dedication of his foster family, Drago was on the road to recovery and ready to find his match.

In March 2024, he found his perfect family, and today, Drago is thriving! 🌟 His adopter says, “He is a beloved member of our family and our extended families, and we can’t imagine life without him.”

When Delaney first met our animal control officer, he trotted over like he’d been waiting for his ride home all along, and hopped right into the car. How this amazing boy ended up as a stray is beyond us, but we just know his perfect family is out there!

Farah is looking for a foster home where she can be the only pet. While she’s making progress on her leash reactivity and has done well with slow introductions to her current foster’s cat, she’d thrive best in a pet-free environment for now.

This lovable girl is a little over 2 years old, around 50 pounds, and is the perfect mix of playful energy and couch potato vibes. Her current foster family adores her but needs to transfer her to a new foster home by January 17th due to upcoming work obligations.
