🎒 Field Trip Day for Shelter Dogs – THIS SATURDAY, DECEMBER 21 ONLY!

Shelter dog field trips aren’t new, but for the first time ever, we’re opening this life-changing opportunity to the public—for ONE DAY ONLY! This is your chance to take a shelter dog out for a day of adventure, snuggles, and freedom from the noisy shelter life.

For dogs who’ve been here too long or desperately need a break from the chaos, this outing could be exactly what they need—and the perfect way to showcase just how incredible these pups truly are.

Here’s how it works:
✅ Pick up a dog between 9 AM and 12 PM from our Oglethorpe location.
✅ Take them out! Relax at home, explore DC, grab a puppuccino, or hit the trails for a long walk.
✅ Return your pup by 5 PM—OR let us know if you’ve fallen in love and want to foster or adopt!

‼️ Our bigger dogs (30 lbs and over) need this the most, and there are 50 eager pups ready for their field trip buddy.

🌟 Meet our WTOP News Pet of the Week: Odie! 🐶

Odie’s foster family has called him “an absolute dream,” and they said he’s one of the easiest foster dogs they’ve ever had.

Odie is a polite and gentle couch potato. As long as he gets his morning and evening walks, he’s perfectly content to spend the rest of the day lounging. Odie is a big fan of gentle pets, soft kisses, and hanging out with his people. He’s always appreciative of comfy beds and a good meal, too.

While Odie would prefer to be the only pet in his new home, he’s done wonderfully with kids. Don’t let his distinguished gray face fool you—this sweet senior still enjoys a playful tug or fetch session, and showing off how smart he is. He knows “sit” and “come here” and picks up new tricks quickly (especially when treats are involved).

🐾 URGENT: Carver Needs You—Now More Than Ever 🐾

Our shelters are beyond capacity, and dogs like Carver are struggling. Carver has been with us since August, and this playful, energetic pup needs a patient and understanding home to help him thrive. He’s had a tough time adjusting to shelter life, but with structure, attention, and love, Carver can be the amazing dog we know he is.

💡 About Carver:
🐾 Energetic and loves playtime, walks, and exploring
🐾 Smart and eager to learn: knows sit, stay, and paw
🐾 Responds well to training with toys, treats, and guidance
🐾 Crate-trained and sleeps through the night
🐾 Needs someone committed to working with his energy

Carver is not an aggressive dog—he’s a playful pup who doesn’t yet realize his size or strength. He’s shown incredible progress with patience and training, but he needs a home, not a kennel.

🌟 Taro’s Journey: From Crisis to Comfort 💙

One evening, Taro, a gray and white tuxedo cat, was found desperately crying outside a stranger’s door. With no home, no identification, and a litter of newborn kittens on the way, Taro’s situation was dire.

Our team rushed to her aid and discovered her six tiny kittens – just a day old – still stuck to the placenta. It was a life-or-death emergency. Late into the night, we transported Taro and her babies to a veterinary hospital for immediate care.

Tragically, despite all efforts, Taro’s kittens did not survive. But this resilient mom was given a second chance. Our veterinarians treated her medical needs, including a spay surgery and hernia repair, while our team showered her with the love and comfort she desperately needed.

Taro’s story didn’t end there. She found a foster home where she blossomed and ultimately found her adoptive family.

Because of compassionate supporters like you, Taro received the urgent care and loving home she deserved.

But thanks to expert medical care and his incredible foster family, this resilient boy has blossomed into a cuddly, affectionate companion who’s ready to brighten someone’s life. 💕

Briscoe is FIV+, which simply means his immune system needs a little extra care to keep him happy and healthy—but don’t let that hold you back! He’s a low-maintenance lovebug who enjoys lounging in laps, indulging in churu treats, and snuggling for hours. His foster family says he’s the sweetest guy who will instantly steal your heart. ❤️

2️⃣ Delaney: Dec 22–31. Super sweet, but prefers to be the only animal in the home.
3️⃣ Adora: Dec 21–Jan 1. A deaf sweetheart who needs a dog-free home and has an adopter waiting for her!
4️⃣ Jimmy: Dec 19–23. Great with people and other pets—a social butterfly!
5️⃣ Clover: Dec 22–Jan 6. Senior girl who loves snuggles but needs to be the only dog in the home.
