Silly stories and superstitions often give black cats a bad reputation. Truth be told, black cats are every bit as loving, sweet and playful as their more colorful cousins. These awful myths surrounding the black cat often give people pause when they decide to adopt.
Please, don't let these beautiful animals get left behind because of the color of their coats. October is, in fact, Black Cat month, adopt today!
There's something about a colorful pile of autumn leaves that practically beckons our four legged friends to jump right in! It's all in good fun, but beware dangers beneath the surface. Ticks and fleas, small rodents like mice, sharp objects or buried tree stumps can be hazardous. Moldy leaves can cause respiratory issues.
Be sure to inspect leaves (and what lies beneath) before your pets (and children) take the leap. Wash dogs off afterwards and do a thorough check for ticks. Don't let a fun fall day turn into an unscheduled trip to the vet.
Our pets depend on us for so much more than just feeding. They count on us to know when they aren't feeling their best or when they're in pain. But pets often hide their pain, a behavior developed long ago, to protect themselves from predators in the wild.
So..HOW do we know? Look for the signs. Lack of enthusiasm at play time, loss of appetite, sleeping more than usual, panting excessively, hanging their head low or shifting their weight.
Be diligent, at the first signs of discomfort, have your furry friend checked out by a vet. Don't let them suffer in silence.
Whether it's a stream, a pool, a sprinkler or a hose, do whatever it takes to keep your pup cool during hot summer days. Early morning or evening walks and LOTS of cool water!

Get out there and play! Toss around the frisbee, play fetch, run through a sprinkler, IT'S SUMMER! And don't forget, June is national Foster a Pet Month. Spread the love ❤️
Owning a dog is a surefire way to get some much needed exercise and fresh air, and who doesn't need that?
It's "Respect Your Cat Day" So how do we celebrate this? Simple! Interact with your cat during playtime, give them a good grooming, cuddle with them and reciprocate their affection.
Reward good behavior with treats, along with a healthy diet. Respect your cat today and every day. And don't forget regular check-ups at Adams Morgan Animal Hospital
Everybody loves Spring, the promise of warmer weather, longer days and lots of sunshine. But this can also mean bugs, pollen and especially pesticides. Things that can make our pets very sick. By keeping your pets on a leash or in a controlled area you can be sure they're not wandering into dangerous territory.
A soft purr or wag of a tail and you'll know, they will love you unconditionally. Our pets create a special bond with us, all they want in return is a little attention, a treat, a walk, or a cuddle on the couch. Be sure your pet has fresh water, a healthy diet and gets regular check-ups. It's least we can do for them.
Whether it's jogging, hiking or playing catch in the backyard, keeping your dog active is a great way of keeping yourself active, and that equals a healthier pooch, and a healthier you! Don't forget a proper diet and regular check-ups (for both of you!)
