If you’ve ever called Masterpiece for an appointment as a new client, you might notice the intake process is very different than most grooming experiences. We ask lots of questions and usually try to call new clients at the very beginning or end of our day to ensure that we can have an uninterrupted conversation with you about your pet. This is because at Masterpiece, we never just book a dog or cat in on the next opening we have available. Like humans, every pet is different - some require a quieter time of day to make sure they have the most successful and positive grooming experience without a lot of distractions. Some pets prefer a male groomer, others prefer a female groomer. Age, experience with the process and current coat condition all play a role in matching your pet with the stylist that will best suit their needs.
By carefully booking pets this way, we’ve now been able to establish our junior stylist program, where we offer haircuts on stylists with slightly less haircut experience than our senior staff at a lower price point. We want our junior stylists to have the same great experience grooming that all of the pets in our care have - which means never over facing them with severely matted pets that require years of experience to safely shave down, or asking them to groom a pet who may pull hard during grooming or have behavioral issues. We also let pet parents know that a groom will take longer than they may have experienced with our senior stylists - perfection takes time and so only dogs that can handle that extra table time without becoming anxious or stressed can be matched with a Junior stylist. By carefully matching pet and stylist, our junior stylists are SHINING - able to carefully take their time, never rushed through grooms, and are absolutely loving the results. Another week, another Toastie Tuesday! Our new neighbor across the street offers a great space to hang out and wait while your pet is being express groom pampered - with lots of coffee and tea drinks to choose from as well as in house baked goods like croissants, ham and cheese quiche and strawberry muffins, as well as free wifi, you’ll be happy you stopped in. Don’t forget to stop by their pup cup station on your way out to bring a treat back to your finished pet ! One thing to note, furry friends must remain outside and we take a hard no stance on leaving your pet tied up outside even for just the second it takes to get a coffee so be sure to drop your pup safely off with us first before treating yourself to one of those caramel brownies ❤️

We didn’t make it out for our neighborhood walk this morning but if you happen to have a later appointment, we highly recommend located at 1509 17th Street. Amazing flavors like strawberry polenta and olive oil along with handmade sourdough cones will fool your tastebuds into thinking you are on a summer holiday in the south of France! If you head inside for a pint, we hear they also have a great wine selection! Grab a scoop and head back to enjoy the sunshine on our patio while waiting for your pet to finish up their spa day!

Because your puppy is a work of art, let them stand out like a Masterpiece. Oatmeal had his first puppy ministyle and he thinks grooming is so fetch. Puppy ministyles are the perfect way to ease your puppy into grooming without overwhelming them with a lengthy process of a full haircut on their very first visit. Your puppy learns grooming is fun and with our express service there’s no crating, no waiting, just fun and learning with their stylist and then straight back home to their favorite person - you! Introducing puppies to grooming from a young age is so important and making it fun and easy? As priceless as a Van Gogh.
Shop dog Toastie enjoyed a fabulous cut from one of our junior stylists, and we think he looks simply smashing - swipe to see his before and after! As a small business, we are constantly working to better serve the needs of our clientele. This year, we are adding Junior Stylist Haircuts to the salon, much like many human hair salons do!. This addition will give our clients the ability to continue to work with the same stylists they love or perhaps have your pet get to know a new one at a reduced more affordable price point while still experiencing the same express kennel free experience and concierge customer service you’ve grown to love. Junior Stylist haircuts will likely take longer than what you are accustomed to and the precision of the cut will be at a slightly lower standard than our current haircuts but you will enjoy the same customer service and express one on one groom with no kennel or crating that you are used to. Our Junior Stylists will simply have slightly less experience than our current team of stylists. As always, all stylists work on our personal dogs prior to working on any client dogs to ensure skill, patience and quality. We have junior stylists available now to take care of calm dogs kept on a schedule with simple cuts. We will be happy to go over any changes to expect but most important - all of our groomers will always be kind, patient and thorough. We have junior stylists available Tuesday to Saturday and would be happy to discuss if a junior stylist would be the right fit for your pup!

National Puppy Day means celebrating these gorgeous puppies and their haircuts! It’s so important to give puppies a fun and short start to grooming so that it’s something they enjoy. We try to start puppies at 3 months old with a ministyle - a spa bath and blowdry with a quick trim of the face, paws and sanitary. This enables puppies to get used to the grooming process without the time it takes to do a haircut on their first visit which can be really overwhelming for them. Puppies are wiggly and easily distracted so keeping things simple for them and making the experience positive is so important! Pickles, Bruno and Charleston are all superstars!

4. Transparency in pricing. We are very upfront about the cost of our services at the time that you book your pet’s groom. This is why our intake process is so thorough and why we usually talk to new clients either early in the morning or late afternoon when the salon is quiet, and you can have our full attention. All grooms are booked by the business owner only so that we are aware of everything about your pet prior to you walking through our door. We ask lots of questions to make sure that your groom is what you want and that your pet is matched with a stylist that will be the best fit for them. We do not add-on costs or try to upsell you products, our entire high end product line is included in our upfront cost. We want your pet to look and feel their absolute best and our product lines reflect that.
5. Express service. Here at Masterpiece, there’s no crating, there’s no waiting, and it’s a quiet spa like setting almost all of the time. Anxious dogs are booked on our less busy days to ensure that they have a great spa experience from start to finish. A stylist is with your dog or cat for their entire groom. The express service approach is a more expensive business model because we are not able to take care of as many pets as a salon with kennels and crates. This is also why we are so strict about drop off and pick up times, the time your pet is with us is designated solely for their enjoyment, and we want every pet to be able to enjoy that one on one time with their stylist. Our stylists often take care of about half the pets in a day than they would at most salons, which allows their bodies to be better rested, and their patience levels to remain high. Healthy bodies are healthy minds.

We love meeting new puppies, we of course love all our regulars clients, and one of our favorite things is rehabbing pups that may not be a good fit in other shops. Sweet Bella has been sent home from a few places in town due to her less than excited start to her grooms. We found with a little patience and Lauren, our resident dog whisperer, Bella was just misunderstood and needed some time to settle in to her spa day. It helps that we don’t have cages or crates here, so there’s no waiting around time for dogs to get anxious - they go straight to their groomer and home as soon as they are finished. Bella went home perfectly groomed and will start seeing us monthly so that she learns that grooming is just a routine day with a little extra pawmpering.
