Last week Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith discussed the importance of enhancing the Veterinary Medicine Loan Repayment Program, a tool that places veterinarians in underserved rural areas, through the Rural Veterinary Workforce Act. Secretary Tom Vilsack agreed and urged Congress to remove the federal tax.

What's the latest happenings in veterinary advocacy?
AVMA-backed legislation would strengthen dog importation requirements, provide the USDA with more resources to monitor the health of dogs entering the United States, and require toxicity warning labels on foods containing xylitol. AVMA also is working with the U.S. Department of Education to make sure its overhaul of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program responds to the needs of veterinary borrowers.
