A few things we can do for Pit Bull Awareness Month:

Bust the Myths and Educate: Pit bulls are often misunderstood due to stereotypes. Let's break these misconceptions and focus on the individual dog's behavior and upbringing rather than breed stereotypes. Share information about pit bulls on social media, with friends, and in your community. Educating others about the breed can help dispel myths and reduce discrimination.

Adopt or Foster: There are many pit bulls in shelters waiting for loving homes. Consider adopting or fostering one and giving them a second chance at a happy life.

Support Rescue Organizations: There are many rescue organizations dedicated to pit bulls. Consider donating your time, money, or supplies to help these organizations continue their vital work.

🐶🌞 Keep Your Brachycephalic Companion Safe in the Heat! 🔥

Brachycephalic (short-snouted) dogs like Bulldogs, Pugs, Pekinese, Boston terriers, and mastiffs are undeniably adorable! Who can resist their smooshie-faced cuteness, snorts, and slobber? However, it's essential to be aware that these breeds have a higher risk of heat stroke and heat exhaustion. They have a limited tolerance for hot temperatures due to their unique skull structure which restricts efficient airflow, making it harder for them to cool down through panting.

If you have a brachycephalic pup, follow these tips to keep them safe and healthy during the summer months:

📍 Take shorter walks during the cooler parts of the day to avoid excessive heat exposure.

📍 Use a harness instead of a collar to relieve pressure on their trachea while walking.

📍 Never leave them outside unattended, especially during extreme heat.

📍 Keep their weight under control as excess weight can exacerbate heat-related issues.

📍 Invest in a cooling pad to provide a comfortable and cool resting spot.

📍 Minimize car rides as much as possible, and never leave them unattended in a vehicle. Heat builds up rapidly in cars and can be fatal for dogs.

📍 Familiarize yourself with signs of heat stroke in dogs and take immediate action if you notice any symptoms.
