The Lucky Penny is closed until power is restored (no restoration time from Ameren yet, unfortunately!). Hopefully everyone gets their text regarding today's appointments! I'm trying to think positive thoughts that the crews will have it all fixed soon and we can just delay everyone's appointment a bit, but I saw the picture of the broken lines and its not looking good! Still...we could get Lucky ;-)

Our hearts go out to the Daily family as their sweet Diesel crossed the rainbow bridge today. He was such a good boy, it was truly an honor to groom him during his final year of life 💔

The Lucky Penny gives our deepest condolences to sweet Clara's family, as she crossed the rainbow bridge today. She was just the sweetest little lady, and I know she had a very good and very long life...but its never long enough when it comes to our beloved dogs 💔

Ollie is getting his summer make-over! I'll miss his fluff, but it'll probably be grown back out by next week lol (it definitely seems like they grow that fast, doesn't it!). Stay tuned for his after pics!

I get asked for a price list pretty often (which I totally understand!), and this is one of the reasons why I don't have one. There are many factors that determine cost...size, condition of the coat, behavioral issues that can result in a longer groom time, etc. But I will always talk with you to at least learn enough to give you a close estimate!

Both of these dogs are Bernadoodles. And this is why we aren't comfortable giving prices over the phone lol

WHY SHARING THESE POSTS ARE SO HARMFUL!
We've all seen posts like these...lost dogs, dogs found injured and wandering the streets, someone caught on camera stealing catalytic converters, missing alzheimer senior citizens, etc. And we share them because of course we want to help! Sadly, these con artists know thats what we'll do, so they make a fake post, usually in a town garage sale page, and wait for it to be shared enough times so that its out on Facebook in every direction. They turn off comments, because once its shared, they edit it to some kind of rent to own property or something else that requires a deposit or application fee. Comments are disabled so that when its edited to whatever the true scam is, people won't see a bunch of comments regarding the missing dog or person.
These in particular are very popular right now. A dog gets out of a boarding facility and is now lost. This obviously hurts any potential scam victim, but it also hurts small family owned kennels, since most of these small towns only have one, so it can result in them losing business and having their reputation tarnished.
These con artists prey on those with big hearts who hate to think of any living being suffering. They are souless vultures (can you tell they make me so incredibly angry lol). If you aren't sure if its a scam post, check the profile...its usually a business or entertainment page posting it (like the profile in the photos in this post, they usually have a star rating). See if comments have been disabled. If their beloved pet was truly lost, they would want to see any comments regarding sightings, so thats a huge giveaway. Report these fake posts, and then report the profile!
Eta- also, please don't feel bad for sharing these posts. It just means you care, and thats never a bad thing! Now that you know, you can check and confirm before sharing, because sometimes it truly is a dog or person in need!

With all the Facebook glitches, the best way to reach me is by texting 309-885-6155...you can also call, but if I'm with a dog, I won't be able to answer right away. I can usually reply to texts much quicker, but I will try my best to answer all calls asap! Being a solo one on one groomer has so many perks...but unfortunately one of the few cons is that there is nobody else to answer phone calls and book appointments. Thank you all so much for your patience!
And seriously, Facebook...get your act together lol

I hope all my human and doggy friends are staying safe and warm with this crazy cold and snowy weather! Again, the Lucky Penny is waiving all late cancelation fees for any weather related cancelations. Just please let me know asap if you think its at all unsafe to try to make your appointment...if I don't have to shovel a path to my salon, I'd rather stay inside in my jammies lol! Please don't attempt to go out if the roads are dangerous or the cold is too much for you or your dog just to make it to your grooming appointment! These things can be rescheduled, and your safety is our number one priority! Stay safe and think warm thoughts ❤️🐾

I hope everyone is having a fantastic 2024 so far! Please keep an eye on the weather and driving conditions this week if you have an appointment. I tried to message everyone but in case I missed you, if you have to miss an appointment due to adverse weather or driving conditions, the Lucky Penny is not charging late cancelation fees for any storm related cancelations. Both our canine and human clients' safety is our number one priority, so please don't feel obligated to attempt to drive if the roads are sketchy! We'll do our best to reschedule anyone who can't make their appointment. For our part, we plan on being open, but I work a short 30 seconds away from home 😉

I hope everyone is having a fantastic holiday season so far! It's so hard to believe it'll be 2024 in less than ten days. We've been open a year and one month now, and I just wanted to take a moment to thank all my amazing pet parents for helping to make the Lucky Penny successful. Each and every one of my dogs mean so much to me, and I'm just incredibly lucky to get to do something I love every day. I wanted to share a few more pictures since these pups are all without a doubt the best gifts I could ever ask for. I hope you all an absolutely amazing holiday 🐾🎄🐾

Hi everyone! Just a reminder that the best way to contact me is by texting or calling 309-885-6155. I just got a Facebook message at 8:30pm that had been sent at 2:30pm! I might not be able to respond or answer my actual phone right away if I'm with a dog (I work alone and can't leave a dog unattended, obviously), but I'm usually quicker about responding than THAT, lol. I check my texts throughout the day whenever a dog isn't physically on the table, and try to return calls as soon as I have a quiet moment :-)

I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season so far! I wanted to share a few pics and also share a special the Lucky Penny is having to help spread some holiday cheer while also helping bring joy to those who might need it the most! Friend and fellow dog lover Becka Gonzales collects stuffed animals every year that she then creates homemade tutus for and hands out to seniors with dementia and Alzheimer's. So for all my clients who bring in a clean teddy bear in good condition by December 15th, they'll receive 20% any grooming service! You'll be welcome to use that discount right away or keep it tucked away for a rainy day if your dog isn't quite ready for a groom yet! *One discount per customer, appointment required for all services. Offer for current clients, as the Lucky Penny is not taking new clients at this time. However, if you're on the client waiting list, you can still use discount when space opens for new clients!*
Only one discount is given to each client, but if you'd like to donate more, feel free to drop them off to me and I'll make sure they're delivered to Becka 🙂

**Important notice regarding this mystery dog illness**
I know some of you have asked about this new virus that's affected some dogs in the US, so I just want to try to ease some of your fears. While it's always important to be vigilant regarding your dog's health, I don't believe there's any reason to be overly alarmed. I'll post what my own vet has said on the matter, plus I've talked to others in the veterinary medicine field to try and gather as much info as I can. This virus is airborne, so even though no cases have been reported in this area, the best way to protect your furbabies is to limit exposure to other dogs. The Lucky Penny already does this by working one on one, so no other dog is in the salon while I'm grooming your baby! We'll continue to insist on being on time for all appointments and picking up your dog in a timely manner, so there's no chance in overlapping appointments and ensuring I have enough time to sanitize between every dog, as I always do. It's also VERY important not to bring your dog if they're showing any of the symptoms below. You won't be penalized for rescheduling a dog who isn't feeling well! The health and safety of all our dogs is the Lucky Penny's number one priority! By following these guidelines and by continuing with my normal disinfecting procedures, I believe we can keep the risks to a minimum. I'll continue to keep in touch with local vets and techs, and if cases do start to pop up in our community, I'll re-address the subject and see if any other adjustments need to be made. Here's what my own personal vet has said on the subject -

** **Respiratory Virus Update** **

The local and national news has discussed a possible new respiratory illness affecting dogs in the US.
At this time, the Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association has had no confirmed cases in the state.

Veterinarians have not identified a specific, definitive cause of this illness and we are not even sure it is anything outside of a normal variant of current causes of coughing in dogs (Kennel cough)--likely a viral cause of some sort.

Historically we have always seen cases of canine respiratory illness to varying levels. These diseases can be caused by viral or bacterial causes. Initially there was thought that the most recent strain was caused by Mycoplasma organism, but the experts do not think that it is the cause at this time.
There is still research being done on cases outside of the state to see if we can figure out the definitive cause.

There has been a few reported fatalities associated with the respiratory illness, but the specialists we have consulted with suspect that they had other medical concerns on top of getting a respiratory disease.

We have talked to our national reference lab, who stated as of right now, there is no specific testing outside of our standard respiratory pathogen panels since there is no identified causative agent at this time.

We advise you to always be diligent. If you have a coughing dog who seems to be declining rapidly or if you have any concerns, please let us know. We would suggest keeping any coughing dogs away from other dogs for 7-10 days after coughing subsides.

We will continue to monitor the situation and if we have further concerns, we will let you know.

Today's superstars were Coal and Buddy! Coal has been a Lucky Pup since we opened but Buddy came to us from Michelle at the Groom Room! If you're in the Marquette Heights area, she's amazing! I'm so appreciative that she trusts me to take over grooming for her baby after mom needed someone closer, and Buddy was such a fun guy to work with!

I'm way behind on sharing pics, so here's just a few until I can get the rest ready to share!
I also wanted to let all my clients know that it's STRONGLY recommended that you book your next appointment when picking up. I'm not taking new clients for awhile but it's still getting very busy and I really hate not being able to give you your first picks as far as days and times go...especially weekends! We're getting into October as far as those days go, then the holidays will be quickly upon us, and trust me, they'll go quickly! I can't believe we're coming up on our year anniversary! I couldn't have done it without you all ❤️

Everyone help me wish THE Penny...the inspiration for both my business and life...a very happy 8th birthday! She and her sister have brought me so much joy, it's hard to imagine a time before they were here. It's crazy to me that they've only been a part of our lives for 3 and 8 years. Penny has the biggest heart of anyone I know. She absolutely loves helping me in the salon (only with kid friendly dogs, of course!), or just hanging out with her old Mamaw while she works! Have the best BEST day, sweet girl!
