Declan lived in a little pen on the side of a house where he was starved nearly to death by the time an officer arrived to do a welfare check on him. His life was saved because neighbors on a walk called county dispatch to see what was happening. When Declan was taken from that house, he could hardly stand and every rib and bone were visible. He was still a puppy. Declan spent those first few days of his new life at a veterinary hospital. The vet did not know if he would live.

And then, each morning we learned that he had survived the previous night. If you were following his story then you learned along with us that Declan was quietly fighting and winning his fight to survive. Many of you donated towards his emergency vet bill. Many of you shared his story and still so many sent love, prayers and well wishes for him here on Facebook.

Declan’s is a story of so many people coming together to create the photo you see here. This is Declan last night, warm, loved, safe. Just chewing on a bone like the adored family member that he is. Since his adoption, Declan learned the ropes of life in his forever family. He’s a happy go lucky one year old boy now with a goofy grin and a look in his eyes that tells his mom he never takes his new charmed life for granted.

Please always be kind to animals. And when you see an animal that you suspect isn’t being properly cared for, contact local law enforcement. You might just become somebody’s hero.

This little guy we’re calling Winston will be available soon! He walks well on a leash and likes to run along next to you. He does well with children and could probably be great with a cat with proper slow introductions. Winston likes to be held and he’s very willing to learn tricks and commands in exchange for your affection and a few treats! He seems very young, maybe under or around a year? ADOPTION PENDING 🐾Two month old Poovy is new to our adoption floor! She has been lovingly raised in a foster home. This beautiful kitten is a love bug who enjoys being held and also enjoys being with other animals. This sweetheart would love to find a home this weekend! She would be so happy to meet you Tuesday through Sunday from noon until 4PM during our open hours.

Ursula’s family sent a sweet update. Ursula loves her furry brother, the houseplants and trying to jump into the fridge every time it’s opened. Ursula’s family writes:

“Since bringing Ursula into our quirky little household, she's acclimated so well that we've forgotten what life was like without her. She and Alfie have formed the ultimate frenemies alliance; one minute, they're plotting world domination via synchronized tail flicking, and the next, they're squabbling over a single piece of spinach like it's the last rose on The Bachelor.”

Ursula has brought so much joy and a little chaos to our household. She's a wonderful addition to our family, and we love her to bits.”

Twitch is so handsome! He has a folded-down ear that will most likely be a permanent part of his look now. Twitch came in that way from trying to survive outdoors after becoming separated from his family. Twitch is so soft and he’s very friendly. He’d let you pet him as long as you wanted to! He also likes laying by our window and watching all of the happenings outside. If you’d like to meet him, stop by Tuesday through Sunday between noon and 4PM! Koda was cold, so we held her and gave her some snuggles and we put this adorable little jacket on her. This is a great example of how items that get donated are put to great use making our sweet shelter pets more comfortable. Now she’s curled up on her bed and hoping to find a new home this weekend!

Hollandaise often lays in a high spot near the center of our adoption floor. She loves to watch all of the activity around her, but surprisingly, she usually doesn’t get noticed despite being at the center of it all! Quiet and lovely, she blends into the room, and enjoys it very much when someone stops to pet her. Look at those mitts! Hollandaise is a polydactyl girl who will add peace and joy to any home for the new year!

Sage is an adorable and mellow young adult who loves to be held and will go into any position you hold her in! Trusting and sweet, this girl will truly make someone a wonderful best friend. She really likes kids and has kitty friends in our cat room, but she would be just fine as annoy kitty also!

Timid little Koda is a tiny terrier mix who is so scared and just wants someone to sn**ch her up and love her forever! She tucks her head when you go to pet her, but the second she sees that you aren’t going to hurt her, she closes her little eyes and relaxes a bit. She shakes in her kennel and that’s understandable! She’s not very confident and then sometimes it’s pretty noisy here in the dog room. It just depends on what’s happening!

We can’t wait for someone to choose Koda. We hope that she can find someone who will be very patient and will gently expose her to new people and things to help her not shake and be so scared! She gives you little kisses when she knows you’re a safe person and we know that she will light up someone’s home with love and gratitude when she gets to start her new life.

Little Josephine is so sweet and she likes to gently play. This baby was born at our shelter in September, or we would never believe that she’s almost four months old! She’s tiny and cuddly and she loves to play with toys. We think that Josephine is going to grow up to be such a sweet companion!

Figgy is a two year old terrier/chihuahua mix who is super adorable! This sweet two year old love bug was rescued with two dozen other animals from the recent legal situation in our community. She’s been spayed and made ready for adoption, and is ready to find a loving home! Here are some pictures of her that her foster mom sent ☺️🤍🐾

The news for the sweet old man our staff calls Dogpool (after the Marvel superhero) is not good. He received a full veterinary workup. He has cancer that has likely spread to his brain. He has very limited mobility and struggles to stand and walk. His appetite is nonexistent. What he likes is to be loved on and to be on bunches of soft blankets.

So tonight he’s in a home being loved like a member of the family. He spent a bit of time sniffing grass in the yard and is now snoring softly while the other dogs in the home lay nearby.

We want to thank everyone who has been pulling for him. Thank you so much to each person that contributed to his medical bill. We were able to request all testing and treatment to learn about his health profile and keep him comfortable. Donations given after his expenses are taken care of will remain in our medical fund to help the next animal that needs us.

We wish that his outlook could be different. But we will make sure that he knows that he’s safe and loved, and that he is comfortable 🤍

Shadow is a wonderful boy who is doing so great on his shelter break! He has been a great guest and has loved going for walks, getting snuggled and just being part of the household for these few days.

Shadow lived in a house filled with trash, waste and living and dead animals. To meet him, you would not know it. All he wants is to be near you and to be loved. He is so happy. He is great with the child, the cats and the other dog in the home. However, the other dog in the home is not happy to have him there. So his sleepaway camp will soon have to end and he will need to return to the shelter. That’s where you come in!

We think that Shadow has been through enough. We think that he deserves to be chosen to be part of a family where all of his love will be returned and where his needs will always be taken care of! This gorgeous cat tower is a gift to our kitties from one of our board members. Thank you, Brenda, for such a thoughtful gift! This tower is designed to be durable and very washable, two things that anything has to be to last very long around here!
