We are committed to spreading awareness of the importance of spaying and neutering pets through low cost clinics throughout our community. Together we can stop unwanted litters, and work to keep community cats safe. We are able to do this through the genero

us donations from our friends and business’s in our area. Ask us how your donations can help sponsor a community cat…

We are a tax deductible charity. Paws and Love began because of the need to provide a safe permanent home to a group of community cats in NC. We take in at risk cats and have them spayed/neutered, combo tested for FIV and FeLV, and vaccinated. They are then released into a safe environment where they are provided with quality food, medical care, shelter, and lots of love. Others have had limited or no human contact and they prefer to live a "feral" life, which is perfectly fine with us. Regardless of their background, all cats are given the love and attention they desire and deserve.

🐾 TNR Update: From Trap to Sanctuary – Welcome, Earl Grey! 🐾

A familiar trapping site turned up a new face recently—and as soon as I saw this big ol’ hunk of a tomcat in the trap, I noticed something wasn’t quite right. One of his toes was bleeding and looked pretty banged up. Not all that unusual—cats can get snagged or scraped in the wild—but I kept a close eye.

Lucky for him (and us), the vet had a cancellation that same morning and squeezed him in. He got all of his necessary vetting including an antibiotic shot and came back to the rescue for some quiet cage rest and recovery.

Two weeks went by, and… still no improvement. So back to the vet we went.
They sedated him to take a better look, and the second they applied pressure—boom. It opened up and drained. (Sorry for the visual 😅 but that’s real rescue life.)

He got cleaned up, another round of antibiotics, and finally—finally—started healing.

Earl Grey ended up spending about a month in the intake cage. Not just for the toe, but to give him time to adjust. And you know what? That time did wonders. He learned the routine. Got used to our voices. Made friends.

And speaking of friends… Earl didn’t waste any time bonding with Binx (a newer arrival and senior sweetheart), and Peter, another older gentleman who’s become somewhat of a welcome committee around here.

We’re so happy to welcome Earl Grey to the rescue—he’s healed, he’s settled in, and he’s got that “I belong here” energy we love to see. ☕💛

💬 Drop a “Welcome Earl!” in the comments—or better yet, tell us about the first time your rescue cat settled in and found their first friend. We love those stories! 🐾

☁️ The Power of Fluff… and a Whole Lot of Love ☁️

This trio of white fluffballs is truly the best therapy in the world. But wow… I was really worried when they first arrived.

One was so pale from flea anemia that the fleas had already moved on—he was no longer a good host. Two of the three were skin and bones. And one of them… I honestly didn’t know if he’d make it through the night. I tucked them all in and asked the biggest one to keep watch over his sibling. 💔

It wasn’t a quick turnaround. It took two rounds of antibiotics, weeks of eye cleaning, meds, and more meds. I carefully charted their weights every other day—holding my breath each time, hoping for even the tiniest gain.

And little by little… they turned a corner.
Now? They’re thriving.

They’re wild. Playful. Constantly bouncing sideways at each other—and at us the second we walk in. These once fragile babies are now a hilarious, zoomy, fluffy tornado of chaos and joy.

They remind me every day why we do this.

🐾 Between March and February… It’s Kitten Season. 🐾
(Yes, we said that backward—because when you’re trapping, you trap year round !! 😅)
When we’re out trapping during this time of year, there’s a good chance we’re going to find kittens.
Some are too tiny for surgery.
Some are malnourished or sick.
Some are living in dangerous conditions with no safe shelter or enough food.

And when that happens, what do we do?
Because here’s the reality:
📍 Shelters are slammed.
📍 Adoption-focused rescues are full.
📍 Fosters are few and far between.

So… we make space.
We shift things around.
We raise extra funds to cover their vetting, food, and supplies.
And we ask for more help from our community. (Yes, that’s you!)

Today, these two tiny new arrivals came in—and they have a pretty adorable origin story.

They were trapped together in the same trap. Side by side. Like true partners in crime.
A two-fur-one! 🐱🐱

Too young for full vetting, they’re staying with us for a little while—getting socialized, gaining strength, and learning that humans bring the good stuff (like full bowls and cozy blankets). Once they’re ready, they’ll head to one of our amazing adoption partners to find forever homes.

This is what it looks like when rescue and TNR work together.
This is what making space means.

Want to help?
We’re always in need of kitten supplies, vet funds, and volunteers to keep up with the extra workload this time of year brings.
Thank you for being part of this rescue family. 🐾

Let's check in with some of our seniors. The day I took these photos was a great day. I rarely see the three white girls out at the same time. They are now microchipped. In the early days we were funded primarily through ourselves and a few donations from others so we didn't microchip then. Instead I got creative with the ear tipping. Some had left ear tips, some right, and some notches.
There are 17 kitties who live in the rear section of the sanctuary. These kitties were the originals. Some have been added in over the years but the bulk are from the Choco group.

Lily Celebrated her 11th birthday with us just two days ago !! She came with the others back in 2015 when we first opened.

Well ICK ! Our sweet kittens from the leukemia positive mama ended up with a terrible case of tummy trouble. Just after I posted the wonderful update on them on June 4th, they ended up sick little ones, which has needed more from me and so I have been on here less.
Brief recap. Mama and babies went in for vaccines. Four days later (not related to vaccines) the babies started getting sick. I took mama and the babies in and we found that mama was also sick and had some sort of infection going on. We think that due to her infection, it passed through to the babies and gave them upset tummy's. Over the course of 10 days we ran like 3 different f***ls looking for something. We treated for coccidia just in case.
Because mama was sick, we didn't want them nursing on her so they had to be separated sadly. We knew they would need to at some post to be able to later test them for the leukemia. Mama joined two other felv positive boys and I will post on her transition later.
Fortunately, all babies are now back to almost normal. Thank goodness they didn't lose their appetites too much. To make it easier on their belly's I started feeding them the mousse variety of tiki cat and royal canin kitten mousse.

Little kitten Auri who had the super awful eyes is making great improvements with her foster family. Auri went to the vet and saw Dr. Fulp and by then was already looking so much better than the last post. During the exam when she rubbed her ears she fell right over to be scratched. Her ears were icky with ear mites. She was treated for that. She is about 5 weeks old and just about 1 pound. Since she is so small she will get her vaccines at a future appointment. She had a f***l and it was negative. Dr. Fulp put her on an antibiotic for upper respiratory and eye ointment for eyes.

This little girl is a fighter! I am so happy with how well she is doing.

This sweet kitten was found in the road and the person who found her called a trusted person who then reached out to us late Tuesday night.

With us being full we wanted to help but didn’t have the space. I asked them if they would be able to foster the baby until we could get space here. Luck was on the kittens side and they said yes!! I rushed to gather all the necessities for a new intake and met them in town.
The new foster was fully stocked with everything thanks to our donors who helped us with food and supply donations and facial cleaner!!

The next morning I checked in on the sweet baby and they have named her Auri. She was very hungry and gobbled down her food. This is great!! She’s so tiny and probably didn’t even weigh a pound. Her eyes were badly crusted shut with awful gunk. They gently cleaned her face with the cleaner and this is her after.

We know she still looks pretty rough but believe me this is tons better than the night before.
