For anyone needing straw, the animal shelter in Washington, NC has some available!

Wheat straw is recommended for helping to keep outside animals warm.

It can also be purchased from plant nurseries, Lowes, Tractor Supply and other places.

Small shelters stuffed with some wheat straw will help when the colder weather is here to stay, but now is the time to prepare!

We will be hosting an in-person information session about Give Directly's RISE program on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 from 12:00-1:00 pm in the Boyette Conference Center - Building 10. This is a privately funded program not affiliated with the college.

RISE GMI is a guaranteed minimum income program coming to Beaufort County! RISE GMI will support around 550 low income Beaufort County households with $1,500 no-strings-attached monthly guaranteed minimum income for 16 months. Visit rise.aidkit.org/o/home to learn more.
