Spooky season is here! 🎃👻 While Halloween is all treats and fun for us, it can be a little too scary (and even dangerous) for our pets. From toxic sweets to costume stress, it’s important to keep their safety in mind.

Here are a few Halloween safety tips to protect your furry family members:

🐾 Keep candy out of reach. Chocolate, sugar-free gum (xylitol), and certain candies can be toxic to dogs and cats.

If you suspect your pet has ingested something toxic, contact:

🐶🐱 ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC)
📞 1-888-426-4435 (Available 24/7 — consultation fee may apply)
🌐 aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control

👻 Create a safe space. The doorbell ringing and costumed visitors can be overwhelming. Consider keeping your pet in a quiet, secure room with their favorite toys and treats.

🎭 Watch those costumes. Not all pets tolerate costumes, and some outfits can be restrictive or unsafe. If your pet is dressing up, make sure the costume fits well and doesn’t limit movement, vision, or breathing.

🕯️ Be mindful of decorations. Lit candles, electrical cords, and small Halloween décor items can pose a burn or choking hazard.

🚪 Prevent door dashers. With frequent visitors at the door, your pet could slip outside unnoticed. Keep a close eye, and ensure they’re microchipped and wearing ID tags—just in case.

Let’s make Halloween fun and safe for everyone—including our four-legged friends! 🎃🐾 If you have any questions about pet safety this season, we’re just a call away.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month—but did you know our pets can be affected too? 🐾💗 Mammary cancer is common in unspayed female dogs and cats. Spaying sooner in their lives is the best prevention, and regular belly checks at home can help catch signs early. If you notice a lump, don’t wait—book a check-up. 360-835-2184 - orchardhillsvet.com

This week, we celebrate the unsung heroes of veterinary medicine — our veterinary technicians. Behind every successful procedure, every comforted pet, and every grateful client, there is a vet tech working tirelessly with skill, empathy, and dedication. They are the first to arrive, the last to leave, and the ones who never hesitate to go the extra mile for our patients. Vet Tech Week is a reminder to stop and recognize the vital role they play in keeping tails wagging, kitties purring, and hearts beating. Thank you for everything you do — our clinic wouldn’t be the same without you.
