#4 of my little babies has finally shed. All but the last photo is pre-shed. This little girl looks just like momma.

Picture perfect pitcher plants!

Pitcher plants are carnivorous plants that get their name from their specialized leaves resembling pitchers. The bottom of these leaves have a digestive liquid to consume prey. Often times, on the rim of these leaves is a sweet nectar that lures in flies and other insects. Once on the rim, there is little grip, which sends them down into the digestive liquid in the bottom of the pitcher. These unique plants have adapted a truly unique way to survive!

Fun fact - There are even some species of carnivorous bromeliads as well. Though they do not have the same kind of modified leaves as true pitcher plants, they utilize the same kind of pitfall trap mechanism with their monotypic leaves.

My sweet Rogue is doing a great job at maternal incubation. About a week to go on her clutch. I can't wait for these babies. Stay tuned!
