Did you know we are homeschool vendors?!

That’s right we have multiple homeschool groups running year round, you can be reimbursed for your lessons while getting P.E credit and building a love for these amazing horses!

When riders start with us they not only learn to ride and care for horses but we also offer a positive health barn environment for extra horse time and events through out the summer to support each riders interests.

Feel free to come find us at the Mat-Su Central vendor fair today or reach out in messenger for more information.

Happy Monday everyone!

Disgraced British Olympian Charlotte Dujardin, this is an abuse of an Olympic horse. This is wrong and I am glad she is out.
We must teach kindness, this horse was obedient and not deserving of this whipping. Shame on British Olympic trainers thinking this is acceptable behavior. This video made my stomach turn-caution if you watch.

WARNING: DISTRESSING CONTENT. Disgraced British Olympian Charlotte Dujardin continuously whipped a horse during a training session four years ago in a stunni...

FUN FACT FRIDAY! Are you familiar with the many adaptations that help your horse stay warm during the cold winter months?

🌾 Hindgut digestion of hay produces the most heat, acting as a small furnace inside of the horse. This is why free choice, good quality hay is so important in the winter.

💪 Horses have a huge muscle mass and muscle activity produces heat. This includes running and playing and even shivering if their body temperature starts to drop. It is important to remember that these activities also will result in a bigger caloric demand so free choice hay and in some cases, grain, is often needed.

🧥 To blanket or not to blanket is a constant debate but either way, as it starts to get cold your horse will grow a thicker coat. If you decide to leave your horse unblanketed you may notice that they look “fluffy”. This is due to a phenomenon called piloerection where the hair stands up to better trap air within. Two layers of the coat also help with warmth. The inner layer is softer and has air pockets to create an insulating layer. The outer layer is coarse and has oils that keep moisture from penetrating the insulating layer and keep the horse warm.

⚖️ Wild horses go into the winter heavier than ideal and the fat serves as an extra layer of insulation. However, if a horse is going to be kept heavily blanketed and in a barn during the cold weather months this is unnecessary and can lead to obesity related issues.

🦵Their distal limbs (below the knees and hocks) are made of mostly bones and tendons, tissues that are resistant to the cold temperatures.

🦶The hooves have an alternative route of blood circulation through larger vessels that can be used in low temperatures. This is why horses can stand in snow without detrimental effects.

👃A horse’s nose has a robust blood supply and is rounded so that it is less susceptible to frostbite than a human’s nose.

Horses first appeared about 55 million years ago (Eocene Epoch). Known as "dawn horse" the young would be about 51 centimeters (20 inches) high at the shoulder and the adults could reach a size of 61 centimeters (24 inches). They would have 4 digits on their fingers and 3 toes on their feet. This adaptation may have allowed them to maneuver better on softer ground in the warm temperate climate. Their size may have helped them hide in the tall vegetation. This Protorohippus venticolum (52 million years) is the most complete skeleton of an early horse ever discovered.

Our Story

Family owned and operated business. Arctic Curly Farm began in Fairbanks in 1996 producing nearly 100 eggs per day. We added breeding and training Curly Horses in 1998 growing into agricultural production of hay and other livestock in Trapper Creek. Today we are located just outside the city of Wasilla and continue to breed and train Curly Horses. We continue to produce hay in Trapper Creek and enjoy chicken eggs.

In 2019 Arctic Curly Farm moved it’s primary operation to the Wasilla area expanding into the residential rental business. We offer fully furnished apartments on the farm with a view of the horses and chickens. A quiet and private setting to relax. We can ride from the property to local trails.

By appointment only. Call 982-3330
