Good Evening! Due to an error with our seller, this week we did not receive any live feeder goldfish, tuffies, guppies, brine shrimp, ghost shrimp, or blackworms in our shipment. We still have shiners & pinheads! Very sorry for the inconvenience; we will be restocked next Wednesday! 🙇

It's Species Spotlight Time!

This week we'll be starting up a new series covering the ins and outs of all your favorite fish species!

This week, the Angelfish, Pterophyllum! A member of the Cichlidae family, this fish and its' striking fins are iconic in the fishkeeping hobby.

Care Guide:
PH: 6.8 - 7.8
Temp: 78°F-84°F
Adult Size: ~3-4''. length, ~5-6''. height
Gallons: 20 gal. minimum, 55+ gal. recommended for large groups or full-size angels.

Temperament: Angels are generally peaceful fish, however, they are still cichlids and are likely to show aggression towards tankmates during the breeding cycle.

Feeding: Surface/mid-level feeders, angels are known to forage on the bottom as well. They are omnivorous and will eat most flakes/pellets as well as live food like bloodworms & brine shrimp.

Tankmates: Most other tropical fish are amicable with this species! Avoid larger aggressive fish, tiger barbs (known for fin nipping), and bettas. They will eat your shrimp! 🦐

Gender Dimorphism: Angelfish lay their eggs using a breeding tube, which can be observed on their underside between the ventral & a**l fin. In females, it is blunt, while in males it is thin. Additionally, males are generally larger and rounder than females, with a notable bump on their forehead when mature. Males' ventral fins will be forked at the ends as well. These dimorphisms are easiest to observe when the angel is fully grown.
