Rabies alert in Niantic
A raccoon found over by Joyce Court in Niantic tested positive for rabies today.
At this time, please make sure all dogs and cats are up-to-date on their rabies vaccinations.
Keep your distance from animals you don’t know, including wildlife and domestic animals.
Symptoms of rabies can include;
Staggering or falling down, almost like the animal is drunk. Acting aggressive towards humans or other animals. Self mutilation.
Nocturnal animals being outside during the daylight is not a symptom of rabies, sometimes they’re just parents working overtime to feed their babies this time of year.
If you observe any animal acting strangely, please give the nonemergency police number a call and we can come out and assess the situation. If you come in contact with a wild animal, please contact your doctor or go to the emergency room immediately. Rabies is transmitted through the saliva of an infected animal and is almost always fatal to any mammal that gets it.

We’ve received a few inquiries regarding the next meeting - the committee has not settled on a date for January yet but we expect to announce the next meeting by the end of the second week of January. What a wonderful first event! Thank you to our wonderful committee members that volunteered to host the hot chocolate table and thank you so much to the community for the donations and support! We hope everyone enjoyed the tree lighting and wish you all happy holidays!

Stay tuned for more news as a few projects are underway. There will be no meetings for December due to the holiday season but meeting dates for the new year will be announced as soon as possible! Free hot chocolate - tomorrow (Friday, December 8) at Jordan Park, 6PM till 8PM or until all the hot chocolate is gone! The Waterford Dog Park Committee will host a hot chocolate table at the Waterford Tree Lighting - stop by, say hi and check us out!

Our Trunk-or-Treat committee has been diligently monitoring the weather forecast and staying in touch throughout the day. Regrettably, due to several forecasts indicating rain for tomorrow, we have decided to cancel our event. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the families, organizations, and businesses that supported this event. Rest assured, we're already in the early stages of planning for next year and we are wishing you all a safe and delightfully spooky Halloween!

Due to the weather forecasted for Saturday, the Fall Harvest Festival has been modified from an outdoor event to a smaller indoor event and so the Waterford Dog Park Committee will be unable to attend at this time.

Can you believe it!!!!! 3 weekends in a row where poor weather impact's programing. This Saturday is calling for a large amount of rain. Unfortunately, we will be canceling the Harvest Festival at Waterford Beach Park. We will however be running some of the programs at the Community Center including your chance to visit with Officer Hodges and get a new bike helmet. While your here paint a pumpkin to take home and visit the Vendors and Farmers Market that moved inside. Help the Waterford Community Food bank by bringing a canned good to donate. Still some great things to do at your Waterford Community Center.
