Fireworks are fun for us — But not always for our pets!

The 4th of July is right around the corner, & while we love a good celebration, the loud booms & bright flashes can be terrifying for our furry companions.

If your pet gets anxious or stressed during fireworks, now is the time to plan ahead. We offer safe & effective prescription medications that can help your dog or cat feel calmer & more comfortable during the holiday festivities.

Even if they’re usually fine outside, fireworks can also cause them to bolt or panic. Make sure doors, gates, & fences are secure during fireworks or parties. Keep windows closed & curtains drawn to minimize noise & flashes. Play music, turn on a fan or tv & make sure your pets are microchipped!

If you think your pet might benefit from anti-anxiety medication, call us soon to discuss options or get your refill. Fireworks will be going on all week!

Livestock: Entry deadline is this Wed. 6/25. If you have not submitted your Health Certificate Request Form to us, please do so ASAP!

Don't forget - IL Dept of AG is requiring all cattle AND swine exhibited at Illinois County Fairs to have an electronic 840 tag in 2025.

Help us find Brody a home! 🩶 Please share!

Brody was rescued by a wonderful organization after he was hit by a car, & they approached us to see if we’d be willing to surgically repair his broken jaw. Our team got him all fixed up & on his way to recovery, & he’s now ready for a home!

He’s estimated to be 4-5 years old, & is SO sweet. Please reach out if you’d like to schedule a meet & greet! We’d be so grateful for even a temporary foster home! 🐾

🐾 Exciting News from Riverstone! 🐾

We’re thrilled to announce the newest addition to our team — Dr. Lily Poole!

Dr. Lily’s journey with us began years ago — first as an eager undergrad discovering her passion for animal care right here at Riverstone. Earning her DVM from the University of Illinois in 2025, she’s returning home as a skilled & compassionate mixed animal practitioner… and we couldn’t be more honored.

A proud Maeystown native, Dr. Lily brings not only exceptional veterinary knowledge, but also a deep love for the community she grew up in. Many of you may already know her — and if you do, you know just how genuine & kind she truly is. Her unwavering commitment to animal wellness brings both heart & expertise to every exam room.

Outside of her profession, she enjoys spending time outdoors & is an avid reader, always seeking new ways to enrich her knowledge or unwind.

Please join us in giving Dr. Lily a warm welcome back to the place where it all started! We’re lucky to have her, and so are your pets.

Does this cat look guilty to you? 😆 Chi Chi must’ve been admiring some beautiful spring lilies a little TOO closely!

In case you have some varieties around for the season or holiday, we wanted to share her story!

They may be pretty, but lilies are very toxic to cats — even a lick of the pollen, water from the vase, or a nibble of a leaf can cause kidney failure.

Chi Chi’s owner noticed she wasn’t feeling well, but cats can get into a hundred different things, right? We had a suspicion due to flowers in the home, but when Chi arrived at Riverstone, we immediately knew! The evidence was literally all over her face: pollen. Thanks to her owner’s quick action & our in-house lab giving us bloodwork results within minutes, we were able to immediately start treatment! After a couple days of hospitalization, Chi Chi is back home & healthy!

Quick Facts:
🌸 ALL parts of the lily are dangerous
🌸 Symptoms: vomiting, no appetite, drooling, lethargy
🌸 Act fast! Kidney damage can start in less than 24 hours

If you suspect lily exposure, this is one of those times you need to go to an emergency clinic immediately if we’re closed.

Best move? Keep lilies out of your home if you have a cat. Can’t trust ‘em!
