We’re hiring!

We are looking for a kennel tech/doggy daycare attendant position 4-5 days a week with room to grow training skills. No experience necessary. Must have reliable transportation and be able to work either Saturday or Sunday for a split shift.

Community Obedience requires dogs to have gone through Intermediate Obedience (or equivalent private lessons), and meets at a different location each week to train our dogs skills needed for being out and about, while cementing their obedience in the real world.

Snow plows seem to be struggling to keep up with the fall and the roads are not ideal for travel, so to encourage everyone to stay safe, we're going to go ahead and postpone these classes for this week.

Let's talk proofing! Proofing is the idea of solidifying a dog's understanding of a behavior so that it is reliable any time, any place. When it comes to proofing remember the "three D's!" Distance, Duration, and Distraction. Here we have a video with our trainer, Arik, working on proofing his dog, Taika, on Place by doing all sorts of bizarre and distracting behavior!

We are currently keeping an eye on the weather and may be cancelling tomorrows classes. We're not sure yet, but will update once we are. The good news is even unpleasant weather doesn't put a damper on everyone having fun!

I always tell people that my dog loves her muzzle. With proper training, your dog can love their muzzle, too! Here’s my girl Ender demonstrating how willingly she can muzzle up.

While dogs get to hang out in smaller pens for nap time, for play time they get to run around in our big room and really stretch out! Then after they're ready, they go back to wind down and catch their breath.

Interested in the fun and fast-paced sport of Agility? Good news! We're starting another round of Intro to Agility April 16th. Mister Jasper is very enthusiastic about learning "place!" Place is one of the behaviors we try to teach all dogs learning with us, along with many others.

While this may seem like a silly thing to teach a dog (putting paws on an object), we can later use this skill to help build a better heeling behavior, and teach body awareness. It always starts with the simplest of behaviors, though...like learning to place one, and then two paws on an object.
