One one hand, I love that she uses the rocks like her personal liter box because then it’s not in the lawn. On the other hand, I’ve never been a fan of Where’s Waldo 😅😅😅 anyone else’s dog insist on walking while they poop so every potty break is an awkward treasure hunt that no one asked for? 💀
Even a sleepy bean has to be on watch for crumbs and forgotten morsels 😂
Bike rides are a great way to burn physical and mental energy! But most dogs don’t just “jump in the saddle” and go… they need intentional time and exercises to get comfortable. Not doing so can lead to a lot of fear, anxiety, and loss of trust. No thank you!! So here are some of the things I do pre-ride to help pups get comfortable:
🟠Wear helmet the entire time so they get used to seeing me with some thing on my head
🟡Sprinkle treats around the bike and let pups take time sniffing to find they them to introduce them to the bike
🟢Gently rock the bike side to side and roll the bike back-and-forth while they collect treats helping build confidence which being near a moving bike
🔵Sprinkle more treats after being attached to the bike to introduce them to the tow leash, again gently rocking the bike so they get comfortable with how it feels for the bike to move while attached to them
🟣Practice sit, stand, and wait behaviors while they’re attached
🟤Walk while rolling the bike, giving treats the entire time so that they get comfortable with walking next to the moving bike
🔴And most importantly… STOP if they display any signs of fear, anxiety, or stress that they aren’t able to overcome on their own without the use of force.
➡️➡️➡️ I love riding my bike, and I love riding my bike with dogs, but it doesn’t really matter how much I love it. If a pup makes it clear with their body language then they aren’t comfortable, we take a step back. That might spend 10 minutes working on counterconditioning, or it might mean that we stick to other activities and I don’t ride a bike with that pup. The whole point is for them to have fun and burn energy in a positive way. Listening to their body language is the only way to make sure that happens 🥰
Soze finished today with just under 6 miles and we had a blast! 🔮I see a nice long nap in her future- send me a message if you’re within 20-30 minutes of Nashua, NH and you’d like to get your pup out running to burn off their extra energy- let’s roll! 🚴
I hope you have time today to get out and enjoy this gorgeous weather! Happy Monday 🥰
Much stealth. Very undetectable.
had a great time with Cali and Maisie today! They came over to spend time in my yard where they were able to run around off leash, burn some energy, playing with agility equipment, and even meet my dog Zoe! Our big goal today was to allow Maisie to have an opportunity for more positive interactions with dogs outside of her family. Cue Zoe! Zozo is my steadfast, can’t be phased, super gentle lab… The perfect dog for Maisie to share space with and show her that she doesn’t have to be fearful around other dogs. She got to do everything on her terms, and did so great! So proud of you Maisie! And Cali was such a great big sister cheering her on 😜
Bouncy pups gonna bounce!
⁉️Did you know: Dogs who‘s mental & physical needs are fully satisfied through walk alone are in the minority! Most pups need to engage all of their senses- they need to sniff, move, and work their brains to actually burn that energy off. Movement puzzles and obstacle courses are an incredibly simple way to do exactly that!🧹📦🪑💦🪜You don’t need fancy equipment or training- Regular household items will do the trick! Use garden or snow stakes to create weave poles, practice footwork by lining up open boxes and having your dog step in and out of them, lay a broom across two chairs to create a jump, and help your pup get used to walking on funky textures with crumbled up bags, sand, pebbles, grass, carpet, water, and more! The point is to get your dog to use problem solving skills which is tiring, and try new things which builds confidence! 🐶🐕🐾🦴 If you need a helping hand, I can come do movement puzzles with your pup OR I can come over and show you how to do them! Send me a message and let's make it a date! And if you try a movement puzzle, stitch this Reel- I'd LOVE to see!!
Anyone else daydreaming of warmer days? 😌🌿
Piper lives a life of bliss and she has *no apologies* 😂
Me, every time my dog sleeps in some weird contortionist position or trips over her own feet.
