This week we celebrate❣️ 🥳

August 18th 2014 (10 years ago) I opened my new business. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made! I’ve met so many people and their dogs. Some whom are still with me & some that have passed on. I am grateful every day that I get to do what I love.
Thank you for all of the love, support and business for the past 10 years and the years to come ❤️❤️❤️

This is GREAT news from back in March❣️ SHARING from UVS.

Some of you know, I am still diligently working on a project with current NY seat holders to get assistance for emergency services closer to our area. This is a project I personally took on in September 2022. Yes, it has been in the works for almost 2 years now but I am still not giving up hope!

-Alyssa

UVS is now offering urgent care services! Similar to human medicine, veterinary urgent care treats illnesses that fall between routine preventative care and critical emergencies.

Our urgent care service has two full-time doctors, Dr. Elizabeth Wolf and Dr. Emily Geraghty, and a full support staff. Urgent care is available seven days a week from 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM. Patients are seen on a walk-in basis with no appointment necessary. Our urgent care team works closely with our emergency team to triage your pet upon arrival and assign the appropriate care team for your visit.

We’re excited to offer this new level of care to our community! Learn more about our urgent care services at www.uvsonline.com/specialty/urgent-care/

Yak Wednesday!

So Yak, many of you will remember him. He is the dog who so many saw posted on lost dog pages over the last few years. Each time, skin and eyes a mess. Somehow, he was always returned to his "owner" only to be back out weeks later. Finally DCO was able to convince his owner to surrender him and we have been able to get him the much needed medical attention he needed.

Due to years of neglect, he sadly is almost completely blind in both eyes. He has dry eye that should have been treated with drops several times a day. Because this didn't happen, He has suffered from painful and reoccurring eye infections.

He also came to us with severe skin infections and ear infections.

We've still been battling recurrent skin issues and are now considering apoquel as well as allergy testing to rule out just good old allergies vs. a possible auto immune.

He did have a Sertoli cell tumor of his testicle. It was completely excised when he was neutered.

The vet tells us that the recurrence rate is low. Typically benign, 10% chance of malignant behavior.

He does have multiple mammary lumps, and we did not opt to biopsy those. At his age, our goal is to keep him comfortable and give him the life he should have had. Whatever time that may be.

He can certainly be adopted. We have waived any adoption fee for him. He moves slowly and is pretty much a couch hippo. He loves people but does not do well with other animals. He is house trained and really only requires a 5 min walk, if any at all, since he tires easily these days.

We know he may spend what time he has left in rescue, and his current foster parents adore him and are prepared to allow him the years he has left with them.

But being such a small rescue not funded by any agency, town, or state. We need pur supporters' help.

Since arriving in rescue, Yak has gained some much needed weight, and now is a healthy 80 pounds. We've tried conservative treatments for his skin, and they have proven not to be working. We want to try apoquel, but with his weight, that would be over 100.00 a month in addition to his 65.00 a month eye drops.

We are hoping we could ask for some sponsors for Yak to cover his monthly meds. We would be willing to take as many or as few people who would be willing to donate even just 5.00 a month either via PayPal or Venmo to our Yak Wednesday fund. We will glady post invoices for the meds and follow-ups on his progress with the meds. Should they not work, money donated would then cover allergy testing or other test to rule out an auto immune.

PayPal: [email protected]

Here are some before and afters of our old guy. Just look how happy he looks now. All because of you, our supporters and community.
