Urgent fosters needed ASAP!
Three lovely dogs coming up from the south tomorrow are all dressed up with no where to go. Bridge, Jackson and Maya all need foster (or forever) homes as they transition to their new lives up North.

We have 2 new super adorable overly friendly 5 month old kittens . I have been fostering them at my home but they need to find their forever family! A boy and a girl kitten, come sterilized vaccinated and combo tested with a coupon for free exam next year with us. Pet haven is hoping to get them adopted soon.Please email with inquires.

“Tali is a wonderfully sweet, playful, lovable 5 month-old puppy who is partially housetrained, and easy to live wiih. I am unable to keep her because of financial difficulties. She's shy at first with new people and new dogs, but she warms up quickly and then gets attached. She sleeps through the night in a crate and can be left alone in the house for one to two hours. She loves to play wth her toys (with or without human help!) and will fetch a ball endlessly, which we do indoors and outdoors. She is good on a leash, but it's best if you have a fenced-in yard. She is up to date on her vaccinations and is not yet spayed. I will give you the paper than enables her to be registered wth the American Kennel Club. i will also ask a modest fee of $500 to defray some of her costs.”

“A woman contacted us, broken, sobbing, and desperate. She is sleeping in her car with her 13-year-old dog. When we reached out and told her it’s barc calling about her dog, she started solving (I mean really crying; it was so sad) and saying thank you over and over. She said she had reached out to so many people and places and no one had ever so much as replied to her.

“As of last night, she is staying with some blankets in her car with her dog. She has a safe place to go for herself, but her dog cannot come and she will not dump him. Can we please reward someone for doing the right thing here? We must help her by getting her dog safe.

“Despite so many hardships, she has this dog for 13 years, from the time he was born.

“Something terrible happened to her and her adult daughter and minus the details… She said, crying, she was told to tie him up in a visible area and go. Even know it got down to 30° outside last night.

“We will provide everything you need. He needs a quiet space away from any pets for now. Two weeks decompression will be a key for his success. He’s never a bit away from his mom in 13 years. We will need a kind-hearted human who will offer a love and patience. He will be so confused.

“Who can foster him? Please keep in mind. We do not currently have any kind of boarding option. All hands on deck! Fosters can be located anywhere in the state of Connecticut. We will provide transportation.

“He’s 13, neutered, housebroken, no accidents, unsure about crate trained, owner states good with children

“Mild, calm, quiet, very sweet and gentle.

“We are unsure how he is with other dogs, he has not been around other dogs in a very long time, but the owner feels he was OK with females. He might be OK, especially if he is older and less reactive to things now. Unsure about cats, but doesn’t seem to have much of a prey drive anymore due to age.

“Might have trouble going up a large flight of stairs. Will need a patient person who can assist or someone with stairs or not a full flight requiring repeated use. Please submit a foster application to our website BARC-CT.org”

In preparation for the month of July we wanted to give notice of the planned holiday closure and doctor absences that will be happening. For office closures, as always the office will be closed on Monday July 4th in observance of the 4th of July holiday. Dr. McCarthy will be out of the office and unavailable 6/30-7/15. Dr. Campbell will also be out of the office and unavailable 7/5-7/8 and again on 7/15-7/22. During the time when no doctor is in the office, we will still be open for technician visits not requiring a doctor to be present, already approved medication or food pickups, and general inquiries. That said if you have any medical concerns or there is an emergency you must go to an urgent care or hospital. Please give the office a call if you have any questions.

Raleigh was in today for a mass removal. During his pre-surgical exam we found that the “mass” looked much better than it originally did, and is likely a histiocytoma (a benign growth that young dogs get!). This is great news and especially great to happen on his first birthday!

Bentley’s mom and dad brought him in today to check a suspected embedded tick next to his eye. Luckily it was a benign growth…but beware ! Flea and tick season is in full swing! Make sure you have your pets on a monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

To Our Valued Clients:

Unfortunately, the office will be closed from now - Sunday, January 16th - until at least Thursday, January 20th, as we have had several team members test positive for COVID. We take public health very seriously, and since we are such a small office, we are trying to mitigate risk to both our team and our clients as best as possible. This situation is fluid, and we will provide you with updates, including if the closure will need to be extended. All surfaces in the office will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected prior to re-opening, and team members will all be required to have proof of a negative test prior to returning to work.

All appointments scheduled for the 17th, 18th and 19th, have been canceled, and team members will be in touch to confirm this ASAP. We will reschedule them as soon as we are able.

We are so sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and patience during this time!

Due to the upcoming winter storm Watertown has issued a parking ban for tomorrow. Currently we plan to be open regular business hours tomorrow, however street parking will not be permitted. We will update later with any changes as today and tomorrow morning progresses.
Please call today before 3:30 for any medication or food refills that you need.

Today is a sad day at Pet Haven Animal Hospital….today we say goodbye to our amazing Stephanie. She’s our rock star receptionist but really wears so many more hats than that here at
Pet Haven! She’s been our rock for the last 7 years and we will feel the hole she leaves!!
Good luck to her over in London where she will be pursuing her passion in music, and of course she will be taking a few cats with her.
