Dr. Bowlus is originally from Perrysburg, Ohio. Her favorite pastime growing up was riding and showing Quarter horses. Two of her notable accomplishments include winning The Ohio State Fair Western Horsemanship Championship and IHSA National Horsemanship Championship in Burbank, California. This pastime eventually lead to her career in Veterinary Medicine. She obtained her DVM degree at The Ohio State University in 2002 and graduated summa cm laude. In 2002, she was accepted into the internship program at Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital in Denver, CO. Rachel moved to Manhattan, Kansas in 2003 for a residency in radiology at Kansas State University. She was board certified in veterinary radiology in 2007. Her research interest was musculoskeletal MRI, studying avascular necrosis of the femoral head in dogs. She has received extensive training in cross-sectional imaging and especially enjoys ultrasonography. Rachel worked as a mobile radiologist and at two specialty and emergency centers in Colorado from 2007-2011. She began work as a Teleradiologist in 2011-present, consulting in veterinary imaging cases worldwide. She holds veterinary licenses in Ohio, Michigan, Colorado, New York, and Connecticut.
Dr. Bowlus formed Illumine Imaging in July 2016 as a way to provide ancillary radiology services to veterinary practitioners and emergency/referral hospitals. The aim of the company is to provide readily available veterinary radiology services, accurate diagnoses, and clinically useful information to veterinarians.
