Well, once again time has slipped by too fast, and we haven’t posted in a while. The summer has been busy though classes have been quiet. Nan has been busy training her Newfoundlands for water rescue competitions. Training time involves a minimum of 4-6 hours at least twice a week. A large amount of time is required as she must train with a group. Multiple people are needed to set up the exercises and to act as stewards for each other. Plus, there is the management of two long-haired, giant breeds with wet coats. She is also working with her dogs in obedience. Sarah has been off work nursing a broken foot suffered right after her lovely young collie, Cosette, went Best of Breed at a big show. Too much heat and excitement, I guess. As of this posting, she is out of her cast and the metal pins are out but she still has no weight bearing. She is eager to return to teaching but may need “sitting down” time while conducting classes.
Our next set of class sessions begins the week of October 13th. There will be multiple Starters classes, Rally, CGC, and Competition Obedience opportunities. Please contact Nan (269-341-3105) to register or for questions. Until then, drop-in training is available most Saturday mornings. Additional times can be arranged as well. Call Nan for details.

Hey folks,
New classes begin next week. We still have a lot of winter weather left. Is your dog experiencing a bit of cabin fever? Are you? We have classes for all levels and all ages of dogs. Classes meet weekly for 6 weeks. Come join us.

From Nan Edwards, Owner/Instructor: Yesterday I was notified that my Newfoundland, Harry made the Top 10 Obedience list for the Newfoundland Club of America. That is for the 2024 year. This is quire an honor and it is the third time in my years of showing that I have put a dog in the Newfy Obedience Top 10. Harry's full name is VN Ch Amity's Wizard Returns to Nicholas Lake CGC TKN TKI RN RA RE CD WD WRD3 DD TDD. Next time you're at the Training Center, stop by and give Harry some extra attention.

Calling all K9 Learning Center friends and family. On June 22nd (Saturday), we are having a volunteer help out day. After being in business over 13 years, our jumps need to be repainted, divider gates and other equipment needs a bit of repair plus we are planning to paint and then add a decorative collage to the big wall in the entry section of the space. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The K9LC will provide lunch and drinks. We will start at 9 am but folks can come anytime. Please contact Nan at 269-341-3105 if you can make it. We would like to get a head count for lunch. Let's crank up the radio, accomplish things, and maybe joke around and have a silly good time. 😁😁😁😁😁😁

The K9 Learning Center is offering a CGC (Canine Good Citizen) test this Saturday (May 18, 2024) at noon. The CGC is an American Kennel Club program supporting well behaved dogs in our communities . The cost for this test is $20 for people not currently enrolled in K9LC classes. Please contact Nan at 269-341-3105 to register and for details. It is expected that folks testing will be familiar with the CGC program and its requirements and be prepared to meet those requirements. This information is available on the AKC website.

The K9 Learning Center's next class sessions will begin the week of May 27th. We would like to officially welcome Sarah Hess as our new instructor. She has rough collies and participates in rally, obedience, draft, herding and conformation. Sarah is teaching this current session and will continue to teach in the next sessions.
