Trying to find a publisher for our first book was almost impossible. Door after door was closed in our faces when the idea of dog longevity book was pitched.
"We see this as a coffee☕️ table book for leisure reading only, nothing more. Pet owners are incapable of taking care of themselves and making better health choices, let alone do this for their dogs,” was a response from one U.S. publisher.
Harper Collins took a risk and said yes, and then you, pet parents around the world, asked your countries’ publishers to do the same. 3 years later it’s been deemed it a “contemporary classic,” published in 20+ languages.🌏
We assumed the worldwide success of the first book showed publishers around the world that our international pet health community takes dog and cat wellbeing VERY SERIOUSLY. But here we are, with rejection email after rejection email from international publishers 📨❌, when we pitched them our upcoming how-to guide book, The Forever Dog Life (coming June 4th in the US and Canada only, thus far 💔).
We have thousands and thousands of comments from pet parents all over the world asking why they have NO access to purchasing this beautifully illustrated, practical manual with nutritionally-dense meal recipes for large breed puppies, kittens, less active and highly active dogs and cats, not to mention treats and toppers that upgrade any pet food bowl (and that’s just the first half of the book!).
The publishers responses so far:
-“Too expensive to publish a full-color, ‘how-to’ book for animal health, no one will buy it.”
-“We will only take the chance on a paperback, black & white recipe book, no pictures and ditch the 300 scientific citations.”
-“We publish recipe books for people. People don’t make food for their pets, they buy it."
-“We don’t think people are looking for a science-based guide book on body care, nutrition and home health for pets in our country.”
If you are a publisher reading this, we urge you to read all of the comments from pet parents, globally, who are upset that they have no access to buying this health-changing, beautiful reference guide, with over 120 recipes for better bowls and healthier homes.
Your assumption that pet parents (who are desperately seeking this easy-to-understand information in a full-color, step-by-step book) won’t support this book in your country is short-sided and heartbreaking.
You’ve grossly underestimated how important dog and cat health is to millions of us pet parents. Our animals are vital parts of our families. They deserve to be nourished and cared for excellently. We intend to show them how with this first-ever book, but need your help. Our community won’t let you down.
