This Lost Cow Of The Woods Found His Way To A Forever Home
In 2018, Finn risked it all for a lifetime of freedom.
At just around 4 months old, Finn ran for his life as he was about to be transferred to a butcher. He would remain on the run for weeks.
When word of his escape reached Jennifer, an animal advocate and Farm Sanctuary Friends of Hilda Club member, she knew the situation was urgent and contacted our team for help.
After weeks of effort from local animal advocates and Farm Sanctuary team members, Finn was finally rescued in the early morning and brought to our New York sanctuary! In animal rescue, we can never be sure how situations like this will turn out. Despite our best efforts, some animals may never be able to be secured due to their fear of humans.
Thankfully, we were able to earn Finn's trust. Like ALL animals, Finn had a strong will to live, and his brave dash for freedom ultimately saved his life. 🥹💚
Cute Lamb Is So Excited To Play In The Snow
Ashley lamb was born into the safety of sanctuary after her mother, Nirva, was rescued from a heartbreaking case leading to 90 counts of felony animal cruelty. Some animals were starving, and others had already died.💔
Ashley would’ve faced a far different fate if her mother hadn’t been rescued. Instead, Ashley will never know pain, fear, or neglect at the hands of humans.
Cute Pig Rescued From Slaughter Happy To Be At Sanctuary
Blue pig was saved from slaughter after a family knew he deserved a second chance at life. Now, Blue’s settling into life at sanctuary, where he’ll live a life full of love and peace — rather than being turned into meat. 💚🐷
Cows Purr When They're Happy Just Like Cats
Did you know that cows purr when they're happy? After almost being slaughtered for just existing, these two best friends are happy spending life side by side.
Lenny and Freddie were both rescued from the dairy industry. Their farmers considered them worthless because they couldn't make milk, which meant no long-term profit. Instead, males are often sold to slaughter for veal or beef to make a quick buck. Luckily, Freddie and Lenny were rescued.
The boys now live at Peacefield, a member of our Farm Animal Adoption Network (FAAN)—a nationwide collective that helps us secure forever homes for farm animals in need. We couldn’t do rescue work alone—it’s how we had space to take in these two calves—and the reason we can say “yes” the next time someone like Freddie or Lenny needs our help.
This Cow Lived A Life All Cows Deserve
We’re heartbroken to share that our beloved Safran, the gentle leader of our cow herd, has crossed the rainbow bridge.
Saffy was an inspiration and ambassador for farm animals everywhere, touching the lives of thousands of visitors and millions of followers around the world.
Twelve years ago, Safran was rescued when Farm Sanctuary President and Co-founder Gene Baur found him in a pen on a dairy farm just hours after birth. Because males are considered “worthless” in the dairy industry, Safran was scheduled to be transported to a calf ranch the next day, where he would’ve been killed for cheap beef or veal. Instead, Gene brought him to our Los Angeles sanctuary — his forever home.
Everyone who met Saffy knows how incredible he was—a friend to all he crossed paths with. But Saffy was especially devoted to his best friend, Cowboy, whom we lost in early 2024. These two gentle giants spent their days side by side, grooming and caring for each other.
No amount of time with any person or animal we love is ever enough. One of the most challenging and heartbreaking moments of animal rescue is when it’s clear it’s time to say goodbye to our friends. When Safran’s legs could no longer withstand his massive size, he was unable to get up, and the veterinarian knew letting him go would prevent suffering.
Because Safran lived at a sanctuary, his final moments were spent in peace and love, surrounded by his friends — a stark contrast to what animals face daily in animal agriculture.
Like humans, no animal should ever have to die alone or be in pain in their final moments.
We’ll miss you always, our dear friend. Run free at the rainbow bridge with Cowboy.💚🌈
Cute Pig Sits For Treats Just Like A Dog
Jodean pig sits for treats just like dogs!
Pigs like Jodean are someone—not something, and just like dogs, they deserve to be loved and live a happy life. 🫶💚
Cute Piglet Couldn't Be Happier To Be At Sanctuary
Like most animals raised in school agriculture programs, Cashew would've been sent to slaughter when he was just a baby. In the U.S., pigs are slaughtered by the time they're only 6 months old.
Luckily, Cashew was saved after a family fell in love and formed an emotional connection with him—they couldn't stand the thought of sending him to slaughter. For the first time, Cashew was seen as someone—not something.
We're so happy to share that through our Farm Animal Adoption Network (FAAN), we placed Cashew in a loving home where he'll live with other pigs! Like humans, pigs are happier when surrounded by friends they can socialize with—they even have BFFs! Our FAAN allows us to rescue more animals than one sanctuary could ever take in—and we're grateful we can work together to make the world a better place for farm animals.
Cashew never has to worry about being turned into someone's meal. ❤️🩹
Cute Pigs Enjoy A Nap Cuddled Up With Friends
Pigs have BFFs and love to snuggle close to them at night! 💚
Pigs Love To Build Nests To Feel Cozy!
Pigs love to feel comfy and secure at night, so building nests to sleep in is one of their strongest natural instincts!
Plus, pigs don’t like a “pigsty.” They prefer keeping a clean house — and some pigs have even been known to decorate with hay, twigs, and flowers. 🥹🫶🏻🌼
Cute Mama Pig And Piglet Safe At Sanctuary
In case you missed it: This is Grace and Jodean!
It's your last chance to sponsor and support them this holiday season through Adopt A Farm Animal. 💚
In the middle of the night, residents of a California neighborhood were awakened by a commotion and shocked to see a mother pig, her nine piglets, and their potbellied friend running through the streets.
Local animal control officers received a three-a.m. call and were soon on their way to bring these adventurous pigs to the Chula Vista Animal Care facility. When they contacted us for help, we brought Grace and Jodean back home with us—and we’re happy to share that homes were found for all of the pigs!
On factory farms, mother pigs like Grace are repeatedly impregnated, with many spending most of their lives confined to tiny metal crates during pregnancy. They never get the chance to show love and affection to their babies, which breaks our hearts. When allowed to stay with their babies, pigs are great mothers. They protect their babies with ferocity and even make sure they are safe and cozy by building fresh nests.
Both mama and daughter are adapting well to life at sanctuary. Grace and Jodean are why we do what we do.
This holiday season, share the love with a gift that gives back! Your contribution will help us care for Grace, Jodean, and all our rescue animals.
