Since 1986, weโ€™ve been dedicated to changing the world for farm animals. Here, we know them as sentient beings worthy of compassion and care, not just commodities. Through collaborative efforts, we can create lasting change and pave the way for a brighter future for farm animals everywhere.

George was born at a petting zoo โ€” a place many think of as a fun family activity, especially during the fall season. ๐Ÿ‚

But for the animals, petting zoos are often far from fun. Babies like George are separated from their mothers, passed around carelessly, and once they grow too big to be โ€œcute,โ€ theyโ€™re often sold, bred again, or sold for slaughter. ๐Ÿ’”

Most farm animals are valued only for what they can give us โ€” like food or a fleeting moment of entertainment. But here at Farm Sanctuary, George is loved simply for who he is. ๐Ÿ’š

Isn't this what every animal deserves?

โ€œSharing is caring,โ€ we said. Norman disagrees. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐ŸŽ

Us: โ€œSharing is caringโ€

Norman: โ€œNOT today my friendโ€

Fall means apple season, which means lots of sweet treats for our rescue animals! And clearly, some of them donโ€™t want to share ๐Ÿ˜‚!

Norman was only three days old when he lost his family. He was born on a dairy farm and taken from his mother so that humans could drink her milk instead. As a male born on a dairy farm, he was โ€œworthlessโ€ because males canโ€™t make milk, so they offer no long term profit. Usually male calves are killed on-site or raised for veal or cheap beef. Luckily for Norman, someone fell in love with him and decided to keep him as a companion animal! He found friendship in a horse and goat, but when they were rehomed, his human knew he needed to finally have his own herd, and thatโ€™s exactly what heโ€™s found with us. ๐Ÿ’š

URGENT FUNDRAISING: On September 30th, we rescued two elderly sheep, Mee-maw and Bah, who were abandoned in Agua Dulce, CA, after the property they lived on was sold. The new homeowner discovered them, gave them food, and made a call that would change their lives forever.

Thankfully, we were able to bring them to our Los Angeles sanctuary for the care and comfort they urgently needed Sadly, Mee-maw arrived in extreme pain, forced to walk on her knees due to severe neglect. She is now receiving critical veterinary care. Bah has some mild stiffness, which we are treating with pain medication.

We need your support to continue providing Mee-maw, Bah, and all our rescued animals with the care they deserve. Every gift helps us give them the love, treatment, and comfort they so desperately need. Please donate today. ๐Ÿ’š

Male dairy calves like Pietro are considered โ€œwasteโ€ by the dairy industry because they donโ€™t produce milk. We can confirm heโ€™s so much more than that. ๐Ÿ’š

Itโ€™s back: Farm Sanctuaryโ€™s beloved holiday tradition, Celebration for the Turkeys! ๐Ÿ’š

Join us on November 1 in Watkins Glen, NY, and November 15 in Los Angeles, CA, for a day of gratitude, compassion, and community. This annual gathering is one of our favorite traditions โ€” featuring time with rescued farm animals, inspiring speakers, and a festive vegan holiday feast.

Together, weโ€™ll honor the turkeys and other rescued animals who call Farm Sanctuary home, celebrate the impact of our movement, and kick off the holiday season with kindness.

Whether youโ€™ve been part of this celebration for years or are joining us for the first time, you donโ€™t want to miss this uplifting day at the Sanctuary!

They only have one life too. ๐Ÿ’š

But billions of farm animals never get to live it freely. Many are confined, exploited, and denied the simplest joys.

We can change that when we choose compassion, support rescues, and are mindful of what goes on our plates.

When Farm Sanctuary President and Co-founder Gene Baur visited a stockyard in 1987 for an investigation, he came across a tiny black-and-white calf who was only a few days old. She was trembling, terrified, and exhausted, having been left alone to die with no help in sight.

That calf became Maya, the very first โ€œdownedโ€ calf we rescued. She went on to live nearly 22 beautiful, loving years at sanctuary.

โ€œDownedโ€ animals are those who are too weak, injured, or ill to stand or walk. In the animal agriculture system, especially on factory farms, many are left without care or compassion. These animals often suffer the most because they cannot access food, water, or seek help.

Their stories are rarely seen โ€” but they are not rare.

Mayaโ€™s rescue helped inspire a movement to protect these vulnerable animals and ensure they are seen as someone, not something.
