Your donation goes directly to the rider scholarship fund. You have fund and a rider gets to ride. $25 covers the riders use of the horse. Otherwise it’s an out of pocket expense for already financially taxed families. Let’s play ball! Oops wrong sport. 😉

Our March Madness Tournament is active and ready for you to start your bracket! It’s a $25 buy-in and 1st place winner gets a cash prize based off the number of buy-ins.

We are so excited for this first annual tournament, help us raise money for our Rider Scholarship Program! Use the GiveButter link to place your donation and an email will be sent with instructions for your bracket.

Riding to accommodate the movement in this drawing prevents a heavy driving down seat.

To help your horse become lighter in front …

Imagine your horse’s haunches and forehand as sprocket wheels inside a machine. Your leg and seat control the back sprocket wheel, which turns and brings the hind end under. Your hand controls the front one, which keeps the front end aligned with the hind end, creating energy into the bridle. The horse lifts his front end by shifting weight rearward through his whole body; that’s what makes him lighten in front.

Those with long memories know that one of the reasons that those USET 3-day squads that won so many medals under the direction of Jack Le Goff was because of his insistence that the riders be fit tough athletes.

Take a look at Mary Anne Tauskey here in a training gallop on Marcus Aurelius, and think what it gave her both physically and in terms of confidence to be so powerful.

Jack was demanding, and I suspect that some of the riders that tried out back during his time and fell by the wayside simply couldn’t deal with Jack’s brand of pressure. (more about that in a following post)

If you watch the first Rocky movie, there’s a scene where Rocky’s alarm goes off in the dark. He gets up and goes running in “the mean streets”, and if you have ever been in a fitness program, you can feel his struggle.

Then I see photos and hear stories about young riders living lives of at least semi-luxury, partying, whatever, and I compare them to what it was like riding for Le Goff, and my reaction is they need more Rocky and less play time. Because Jack’s teams won.

But it comes back to the age old question----“How much do you want it?”

Dressage is such a precise, high-pressure sport, and the culture can sometimes feel critical rather than encouraging. It’s easy to start doubting yourself when progress feels slow or when you're surrounded by people who seem to have it all figured out.

But remember, every rider—no matter how talented—has moments of doubt. The key is to focus on your own journey, not just the competition. Progress in dressage is about the small wins: a better transition, a softer connection, a more engaged hind end. Those things matter more than outside opinions.

What’s been the hardest part for you lately?

For many riders, competing—and winning—feels like the ultimate validation of their training efforts. But let me ask you this: Do you feel safe riding your horse across the showgrounds?

In today’s dressage world, so much emphasis is placed on a horse’s performance inside the competition arena. But what about outside of it?

✨ Does your horse travel well?
✨ Does he need extensive prep to perform his best?
✨ Can you confidently take him on a trail ride?

Now, don’t get me wrong—competition goals are great! I have them too. But the value of a well-rounded horse, one you can truly enjoy both in and out of the arena, seems to be increasingly overlooked.

Success isn’t just about scores and ribbons. You deserve to feel fulfilled and validated in your partnership with your horse—beyond what’s written on a test sheet.

✨ Does your horse stand for the farrier like a pro? 𝘈𝘮𝘢𝘻𝘪𝘯𝘨!
✨ Does he lead, load, and tie like a gentleman? 𝘚𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘢𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘳!
✨ Can your horse confidently hack out on the trail? 𝘗𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴!

Give yourself credit for having a truly GREAT horse—even if you don’t have a shelf full of blue ribbons. A safe, dependable, and enjoyable partner is worth more than any trophy.
