“‼️Update! Four sightings in Five Points this morning, but she hasn’t been spotted since.‼️

LOST! Please help find Honey! She got spooked and slipped out of her collar on Old Epps Bridge Rd near Racetrac on Broad St when being walked by our dog sitter. She is chipped but does not have her tags since her collar came off.”

More wise observations from the fabulous Twain!💜🐈
“That's the way with a cat, you know -- any cat; they don't give a damn for discipline. And they can't help it, they're made so. But it ain't really insubordination, when you come to look at it right and fair -- it's a word that don't apply to a cat. A cat ain't ever anybody's slave or serf or servant, and can't be -- it ain't in him to be. And so, he don't have to obey anybody. He is the only creature in heaven or earth or anywhere that don't have to obey somebody or other, including the angels. It sets him above the whole ruck, it puts him in a class by himself. He is independent. You understand the size of it? He is the only independent person there is. In heaven or anywhere else. There's always somebody a king has to obey -- a trollop, or a priest, or a ring, or a nation, or a deity or what not -- but it ain't so with a cat. A cat ain't servant nor slave to anybody at all. He's got all the independence there is, in Heaven or anywhere else, there ain't any left over for anybody else. He's your friend, if you like, but that's the limit -- equal terms, too, be you king or be you cobbler; you can't play any I'm-better-than-you on a cat -- no, sir! Yes, he's your friend, if you like, but you got to treat him like a gentleman, there ain't any other terms. The minute you don't, he pulls freight.”
- Mark Twain, ‘The Refuge of the Derelicts’

With a six hour layover in Amsterdam on my way home from two spectacular weeks in beautiful Kisii, Kenya, I wanted to take a minute to wrap it all up before going back into Facebook reclusion.

There are too many of you to thank and I do not doubt that I will leave too many out if I even try. So, friends (new and old), family, everyone who helped out, everyone who donated, everyone who followed along and supported us along the way, all of you!!! I want to say a sincere “THANK YOU!”

This trip takes a tremendous toll on all of us. With the joys of meeting and reuniting, the sorrows of parting, both coming and going, it is an emotional roller coaster. Then there is the self doubt, questioning, could we have done better? Are my motives pure? What else could we have done?

But regardless of anyone’s specific beliefs, we have no doubt that there is something greater going on here than any work that is done or any procedures that are completed. Maybe one day we will be able to put into words the effect of our efforts but for now, just know that we leave you all in Kisii and we return to you all at home with our hearts full.

The Boscovet team members from the USA are returning home today. After two weeks of hard work in the hot sun and being torn between missing our family and friends at home (you all) and leaving our friends here, It is best right now to say only “THANK YOU”. See you soon.

Half of the Boscovet team went on safari today while the rest of us took care of behind the scene details. I was hoping for great photos from the Massai Mara to show you but instead I have these: Dr. Blackburn’s face says it all. But they are ok, you know what they say in Kenya, Hakuna Matata!
Update: they made it back safe and sound

The Boscovet Team can work so hard because we are so well fed. Today’s lunch- ugali, stewed cabbage and chicken stew with chapati. After going out and treating many, many, many, cows and goats we were hot, tired and hungry. Being on the equator, the Kenyan sun is rough on us mzungu (Swahili term for white person).

Another long hot day of field surgery and vaccinating cattle. As a gift to the school for use of their facilities, we presented two of the soccer balls donated by my nieces, Victoria and Olivia. Rather than just giving them the ball, we said that they must score on me in goal or I would take the balls back. It made for a fun competition

Day 2 of clinics. The Boscovet Team divided into 3 sites for treating cattle, goats, dogs and cats. We are training Kenyan Veterinarians, Interns and Technicians in field anesthesia and surgery in dogs and cats. With teamwork from Joseph Marura and Ric N Julie Shallow who really took control of the day, it makes the day so much easier. Still, we’re getting tired. The days are long and hot.

The Boscovet Project has installed over 60 wells, servicing around 100 people per well. Wells provide fresh water, immediately drinkable verses tapped natural springs or river water which must be obtained by walking down the hills 1-2 miles and carried home for washing, bathing and watering animals and gardens.

Today has been surreal. The Boscovet team met with the District Veterinary Officers to coordinate our vaccine and surgery clinics for the week. We visited the Boscovet Hope Academy and evaluated the clinic sites. Afterwards, we had the honor of being invited to the personal home of the Governor of Kisii County, His Excellency Simba Arati who has heard of the incredible work that Boscovet’s is doing. After a pleasant sit down where we were served bananas and sugar cane, we were served the most Kenyan dinner possible. Please enjoy the pictures.
