Soggie Doggie

Soggie Doggie In May, 2018, when Jack Russell number three, JR, arrived at R-Horizon Farm, new adventures and challenges came along. Soggie Doggie was officially born.
(12)

On one of our first outings with JR we encountered a small stream where he was persistent on getting in, splashing around, and at times even pulling me off balance just to stay in the water. As summer progressed it was evident that JR loved the water. We started with a small inflatable, transitioned a few times quickly from there and soon found ourselves frequenting a big plastic pool. It was neve

r fun when Fall came around and we had to empty the pool for winter. In the fall of 2020, a retired farm building became available and, ‘Walla’! A dedicated building where a pool could be fully enclosed and insulated for year-round swimming. The pool at Soggie Doggie is heated to a consistent temperature keeping the building comfortable, along with added play time in our half acre yard. Soggie Doggie offers multiple opportunities for you and your best furry friend. Private rental times, group session and classes are available to swim and play for all dogs. Whether it be conditioning to keep your pup in top form, weight loss, improved mobility, confidence building or even the sheer pleasure of a fun, bonding experience. Our wish is that you share the same enjoyment with swimming your dog as we have. At Soggie Doggie, it’s all about the dog!

UPDATE: This dog is now in the care of Mommy & Me rescue.

‼️Female dog found on Route 45 between Vicksburg and Lewisburg. If you know her or her owners, please contact us at 570-399-0403‼️

She was hit by a car, has 2 broken back legs, and requires extensive treatment beyond our hospital’s capabilities. We are treating her shock and managing her pain for the weekend. We plan to help as much as we can. The good samaritan that found her has graciously donated towards her care, but for obvious reasons, is not able to take on such a large financial burden that she will require at another hospital. We are accepting donations for her care, and any donations beyond that point will go towards her additional required care elsewhere.

If you would like to make a donation, you can contact us at 570-399-0403, or send a donation through Venmo .

This post is for those registered for the Sept 5-8, 2024 WestWind Diving Dogs event and for those thinking about doing a day-of entry for the event. We will do a $25/splash day-of entry for this event. Day-of entries are usually $30/splash. Splash times are also being pulled-in for this event. Read on for the pulled-in splash times.

For the second year in a row, I erroneously scheduled this Sept event over-top of the NADD Regionals event. The result is a small, event, which isn’t all bad. For newbies who are nervous about attending your first event, it doesn’t get much better than this.

I am adding this next part to clarify what I mean by ‘newbies’. By newbies, I mean folks whose pup’s are jumping but have not competed at an event.

We are going to pull in the Splash Times for the Friday thru Sunday portion of the event. Thursday’s AR will remain as a 6 pm start.

For the rest of the event
Friday
Splash 1. 8: 30 am start
2. 9:30 am start
3. 10:30 am start
4. 11:30 am start
Friday Hydrodash 12:15 pm start

Saturday
Splash 5. 8:30 am start
6. 9:30 am start
7. 10:45 am start
8. 12 noon start
Saturday AR 1:15 pm start

Sunday
Splash 9. 8:30 am start
10. 9:30 am start
11. 10:45 am start
12. 12 noon start

Sunday Hydrodash will start around 1 pm

Thank you!
Chuck

We are in desperate need of foster homes, especially for medium to large dogs. We are overwhelmed with rehome requests! We can only take in dogs if we have a foster available. The amount of dogs in need are at a crisis level right now. All rescues are overwhelmed with rehome requests. We cannot help if we don't have fosters willing to open their homes to a dog in need. Our current dedicated fosters are full and taking on as many dogs as they can - we are so grateful for them❤❤
All of the dogs in this photo are on a waitlist to come in to our rescue. These are just the requests that we have already spoken to, there are more that need to be called back and evaluated!

Haven to Home provides everything you need! We pay for all veterinary expenses, provide food, crates, toys.....

If you have room for one more, please go to our website and fill out a foster application! All pets in your home must be current on vaccines and spayed/neutered.

If one of the dogs below catches your eye, please email [email protected] to get more information.

Blue-green algae can look like “pea soup” scum on the water or discolored water … but it’s actually bacteria.

It’s bacteria that can photosynthesize and grow into large colonies that form blooms, often found near shores as the wind moves them along the surface. 🌊

People can become very ill when their skin comes into contact with toxic blooms, and the same is true for your dog. It can be deadly if they lick or drink any of it. 🐾

These blooms produce toxins that can cause:
- Liver damage
- Liver failure
- Muscle tremors
- Seizures
- Paralysis

Symptoms in your dog may appear in as little as 30 to 60 minutes after exposure or may take up to 12 to 24 hours to appear. 🚨

Watch for these symptoms:
- Diarrhea
- Vomiting
- Bloody diarrhea or black, tarry stool
- Pale mucous membranes (gums)
- Jaundice (pale or jaundiced gums)
- Seizures, muscle tremors, muscle rigidity, or paralysis
- Disorientation
- Coma
- Excessive salivation or tearing
- Blue discoloration of the coat, skin, and mucous membranes
- Difficulty breathing

If your dog’s been swimming and then exhibits any of these symptoms, it's critical to take your dog to a vet as soon as possible. 🏥

A little reminder.

A little reminder.

With the hot temperatures, I'm keeping a lookout for blue-green algae blooms in our ponds. Our dogs swim and walk tummy-deep in the ponds, occasionally drinking the water. I've learned what steps to take to keep our ponds safe for our dogs and local wildlife.

Symptoms of Blue-Green Algae Sickness in Dogs

** Vomiting
** Diarrhea
** Blood in stool or black, tarry stool
** Pale mucous membranes
** Jaundice
** Seizures
** Disorientation
** Coma

If your dog experiences any of these symptoms after swimming (or drinking from) a local pond, please get in touch with your veterinarian immediately. Read more at: https://buff.ly/2MzcZt9

It was a hot in more ways than one this past Sunday at WestWind Diving Dogs! First time trying the regulation dock for these newcomers and they did great! Tucker and Hawkeye really had a great time and I think the owners were impressed at how well they performed. I know I was!

Rosie came for her first appointment the end of April. She is not at all receptive to new people or situations. Phil and Karen were hoping this would be something that she could do to help release energy, build her confidence, and in the same token like swimming. We had to get creative because knowing she couldn't take the pressure of a new person trying to help her. Phil did a super job in the pool, with my guidance, which allowed Rosie to focus. Karen was terrific on the deck in getting her to go down the ramp. For a few weeks she did not have the confidence to venture anywhere in the pool without her guardian right beside her. Two weeks ago Phil stayed along the outside of the pool and Karen was still directing from the deck area. This past Sunday Rosie finally shined. No more barking when she comes in the building, she is wagging her tail and she trusted to come and smell my hand. Patience and a team effort is paying back in a big way. I think the mission has been accomplished. So happy for Rosie, Phil and Karen.
