Nova is a 6 month old Corgi Mix who was brought in after she ingested several Albuterol vials.

On arrival, Nova was experiencing tachycardia, with a heart rate of 190 beats per minute! An elevated heart rate is a symptom of Albuterol toxicity. Thankfully, her bloodwork did not show any electrolyte abnormalities. Nova was hospitalized to receive IV fluids, medication to help lower her heart rate, and anti-nausea medication. We also closely monitored her bloodwork and vitals, including her ECG.

Nova did great for us, and continues to do well at home! 🀍🐾

Ingesting albuterol is a medical emergency, as it can lead to serious cardiovascular symptoms and electrolyte imbalances. If your pet punctures an inhaler or ingests Albuterol in any way, please contact Animal Emergency Center or your veterinarian immediately.

Willow is a 4 year old Labrador Retriever who was brought in for lethargy, vomiting, and urinary issues.

On presentation, Willow was posturing to urinate, and dribbling small amounts of bloody urine. Her diagnostics showed slightly elevated kidney values, a UTI, crystals in her urine, and a stone!

Willow was hospitalized to receive IV fluids, an antibiotic, GI medications, anti-nausea medication, and pain management. We placed a urinary catheter to relieve her obstruction, and took her to surgery where our veterinarian removed her stone! The stone was sent for analysis to determine exactly what type of stone it is, and treatment recommendations to help prevent them in the future. After surgery, Willow remained hospitalized for continued monitoring and treatment.

Willow has been doing great at home! 🀎🐾

Ahsoka is a 4 month old Labrador Retriever who ingested Baclofen, a muscle relaxer used for humans. When ingested by animals, this can be deadly due to its rapid onset of action and the severity of clinical signs associated with it.

Ahsoka was transferred to us in critical condition. She was comatose, had developed aspiration pneumonia, and was intubated for 2 days in our oxygen ICU. During her hospitalization, all of her vitals, including her blood pressure and ECG, were very closely monitored. Given her comatose state, we placed a urinary catheter for cleanliness and to monitor her urine output. We also made sure to frequently change her recumbency. Ahsoka received IV fluids, intralipid infusions, GI medications, an anticonvulsant, and antibiotics.

After 2 days, Ahsoka started to become alert, and we were able to extubate her! She remained hospitalized for 2 more days for continued monitoring and treatment. During that time, she slowly regained her ability to walk again. By the end of her hospitalization, she was running around and acting like a puppy again! After 4 total days of intensive nursing care, Ahsoka was able to be discharged with medications, and has been doing very well at home! Check the comments for some happy moments we recorded during her stay - her eating on her own, and when she started to walk again! πŸ–€πŸΎ

If your pet has ingested Baclofen, or any other human medications, contact Animal Emergency Center or your regular veterinarian immediately.

Molly is a 4 month old Poodle Mix who presented with a swollen tongue after being outside.

On arrival, the ventral aspect of Molly’s tongue was severely swollen. She was visibly uncomfortable and attempting to paw her face, so sedation was administered to prevent her from causing more trauma. Afterwards, she was treated with an antihistamine, a steroid, and Epinephrine. Molly was closely monitored over the next few hours to ensure that her airway remained unaffected and to confirm the swelling was resolving.

Several hours later, the swelling had completely subsided, and Molly was back to being a happy puppy! She was discharged with medications, and has continued to do great at home! 🀎🐾

Millie is a 3 year old Spaniel Mix who was brought in after she ran in front of a swinging golf club and was hit in the chest.

Millie’s diagnostics revealed pulmonary contusions (bruising of her lungs) and a pneumothorax (free air around the lungs). Millie was hospitalized in our oxygen ICU for close monitoring of her vitals, IV fluids, pain management, and an anti-inflammatory. We also performed repeat radiographs throughout her stay to monitor for any worsening changes with her lungs.

After 3 nights of hospitalization and slowly being weaned off of oxygen, Millie was able to be discharged with medications. She has been doing amazing at home! 🀎🐾

Pebbles is a 1 year old Bulldog who presented after experiencing contractions for several hours without delivering any puppies.

Diagnostic testing, including bloodwork, radiographs, and fetal heart rate assessment, revealed the presence of five puppies, which were showing signs of distress. Pebbles was taken to surgery for a c-section and spay.

Surgery went well! Once Pebbles was fully recovered from surgery, her and her 5 puppies were discharged! 🀎🐾

Roxie, the tiniest little girl, is a 9 year old Chihuahua who was brought in for excessive thirst, lethargy, and a decreased appetite.

On exam, Roxie’s abdomen was tense and distended. We performed diagnostics, which confirmed a pyometra (infection of the uterus). She was hospitalized to receive IV fluids, an antibiotic, GI support, and pain management before heading into surgery to remove her infected uterus.

Roxie’s surgery went well, she did great post-operatively, and she was able to be discharged with medications the next day. She has been doing great at home! 🀎🐾

❗️Pyometra is a potentially life-threatening infection of the uterus that causes it to become inflamed and distended with bacteria and pus. It can develop in any unspayed female, and can be fatal without immediate surgical intervention. Pyometra can be prevented by having your pet spayed.

Kaiser is an 11 week old Poodle Mix who presented for frequent urination and being uncomfortable.

After we collected a sterile urine sample, we performed a complete urinalysis, which revealed red blood cells, white blood cells, and bacteria. Kaiser was treated for a UTI with an antibiotic and pain medication.

We also caught him taking a puppy power nap while he waited! πŸ₯°

Mr. Man presented to our hospital laterally recumbent and barely responsive. His temperature was extremely low, his heart rate was elevated, and he had an increased respiratory rate with effort.

On exam, it was found that Mr. Man had a urinary obstruction. His bloodwork showed significant abnormalities, including severely elevated kidney values, an elevated potassium, and a low calcium. We immediately placed an IV catheter, began IV fluids, administered medication to help with pain, and started Calcium supplementation. We also placed a urinary catheter to relieve Mr. Man’s obstruction. He remained hospitalized in our oxygen ICU while receiving IV fluids and pain management. We also closely monitored his urine output, vitals, and bloodwork.

After several hours, Mr. Man was becoming more alert and able to sit up on his own! Additionally, with each repeat blood panel, his values were improving! After several more hours, he was bright and alert and eating a urinary diet. By the next day, his kidney values had completely normalized!

Mr. Man is home now and back to himself! 🧑

Stymie is a 6 year old German Shorthaired Pointer who was brought in for vomiting carpet.

While there were some minor changes on his bloodwork, his radiographs were concerning for a linear foreign body. Stymie was taken to surgery, where our veterinarian had to perform 4 separate incisions into the intestines, and 1 incision into the stomach in order to completely remove all of the carpet.

Given his extensive surgery, plus a few bumps in the road during his recovery, Stymie required several days of hospitalization for continued monitoring, pain management, IV fluids, GI medications, and an appetite stimulant.

We’re happy to report that Stymie is doing great at home and back to himself! 🀎🐾

Our Story

When it comes to an emergency situation, you need to know your pet has a place to go for advanced medical care. At the Animal Emergency Center in Watsontown, we're here when your regular veterinarian can’t be. Our emergency animal hospital is open during nights, weekends, and holidays to care for pets who need unexpected urgent care.

Our animal hospital is the result of a collaboration of 10 different veterinary clinics in the area who came together to address the problem of not having emergency care available to the community. And so, our animal hospital was born. Established in 1999, we filled the gap of emergency care by providing urgent care services after hours and on weekends and holidays.

While we started off small, we are now a full-fledged, AAHA-Accredited animal hospital built specifically for emergency cases. No matter what your pet’s emergency, whether they have suffered trauma, are experiencing an allergic reaction, have ingested a foreign object, or any other situation, we have the tools and the expertise to get them back to full health. We will treat every patient like the individual they are since no two pets and no two conditions are exactly the same.

We understand that your pets are family members. Our dedicated staff consists of a team of receptionists, certified veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants, and veterinarians who all work together to offer compassionate and superior care to our clients and their pets.
