Lily has settled in wonderfully with her foster family after a week, quickly bonding with them. She loves cuddling, enjoys walks, and exploring the yard. Car rides are a favorite, and she’s charmed everyone she’s met. They’re establishing a routine, and Lily recently signaled she needed to go outside, a positive step. In the coming days, they plan to help her build confidence when left alone, improve her response to commands, and introduce her to other dogs, as she seems to miss canine companionship.

Reesie (adopted February, 2024) is doing great! She loves her routine and will let us know if she is expecting something, such as a walk, and we haven’t gone yet. She has a really good nose and loves to sniff. Reesie enjoys playing with our other dogs and you can always find her near one of them. We take all the dogs to a private outdoor dog park, so they can run in a bigger space, and she absolutely loves it! When it is time to relax she enjoys snuggling on the couch.

Max has been with the family for a few weeks and quickly became a beloved member. He wakes up the kids and walks the youngest to the bus stop. Though he enjoys naps, he loves walks and is an expert sniffer, sometimes pulling on the leash. He prefers to be with his people and often follows them around, even up stairs. Max has formed a special bond with the 9-year-old, who reads with him and cares for him. He's a sweet dog, perfect for any home, but hates having his picture taken!

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make our night with the Madison Capitols a success! Whether you volunteered at the table, sold raffle tickets, purchased tickets, or simply stopped by to show your support, we truly could not have done this without you.

We are incredibly grateful to the generous winner of the 50/50 raffle, who donated their winnings back to GRRoW! The raffle brought in over $1,000, and we also received a portion of the ticket sales, totaling $260. While we are still waiting on the final total, we know that every dollar raised will go toward helping the Goldens in our care.

Thank you again for your dedication and support—we couldn’t do what we do without our amazing GRRoW family!

Welcome Home Lily! Lily is a precious girl, full of energy and loves the outdoors. We go on daily walks, she loves meeting people and getting petted. Our home has her toys scattered all over most days. She loves eating fruits and vegetables.

This little princess has received her own carriage-Daddy says every princess should ride in a carriage. As you can see, sometimes I ride and sometimes I walk with it. We're going on biking adventures so now I can go biking too.

🐾 Meet Sarah – A Beautiful Soul Ready to Bloom

Sarah is a 3-year-old, 60-pound Golden Retriever who came to GRRoIowa as a breeder surrender. Initially fearful of new people, situations, and noises, she’s showing great resilience. After just two days in her foster home, she began seeking affection and bonding with her foster mom and sister. Sarah is eager to learn, gaining confidence as she overcomes her fears. She’s already mastered “sit” and is working on “come” and “off.” Sarah enjoys the company of other dogs, gets along with cats, and doesn’t show signs of resource guarding. Though she’s not a fan of crating, she complies when needed and keeps things lively with her mischievous countersurfing.

Things to Know About Sarah

▪️Dog & Cat Friendly: She does great with other dogs and lives peacefully with cats.
▪️Still Perfecting Potty Training: She’s about 75% house-trained and improving daily.
▪️Car Rides Are a Challenge: Sarah gets car sick, though medication has not been tried yet.
▪️Curious & Playful: She loves toys, enjoys exploring, and may sneak a stolen item or two if left within reach!

Forever Home Requirements
▪️Physical fence required – no invisible fences
▪️Another confident dog similar in size
▪️A patient, loving adopter to continue her training and nurture her confidence

Sarah is currently receiving vaccinations and will soon be spayed. This happy, loving girl is ready to share her heart with a family willing to help her grow. If you’re patient, kind, and ready to welcome an exceptional companion, apply today!

This is a courtesy posting for Golden Retriever Rescue of Iowa.

Meet Bella – A Heartwarming Journey in Trust

Bella is a 6-year-old Golden Retriever who was surrendered by a breeder and is still adjusting to life outside of that environment. Though she can be timid around new people, noises, and situations, she is eager to bond and has learned to trust her foster family and foster brother. Bella sleeps soundly in her crate at night and enjoys spending time in it during the day. She communicates well, pacing when she needs to go outside. While it's unclear how she'd interact with kids, she would likely do well in a calm home with older children. Bella also gets along with the cats in her foster home.

Things to Know About Bella

▪️Timid but Trusting: Bella is initially shy but blossoms with patience and kindness.
▪️Loves Routine: She thrives with a consistent schedule and a predictable environment.
▪️Gaining Confidence: With another confident dog by her side, she is steadily learning that the world isn’t so scary.
▪️Quiet and Gentle: Bella is not a high-energy dog; she prefers a relaxed atmosphere where she can observe and slowly engage at her own pace.
▪️Crate Comfort: She finds her crate to be a safe space and will use it voluntarily throughout the day.

Forever Home Requirements:
▪️Physical fence required – no invisible fences
▪️Another confident dog similar in size to help guide her
▪️Cats: Lives with cats in her foster home
▪️Calm household with patient adopters who will help her continue to grow

If you're ready to give Bella the safe and understanding home she deserves, apply today!

Handsome Jack, a nine-year-old former breeder dog, is adjusting to life in his foster home. He's social, enjoys car rides, and has passed his vet check with ease. Jack is discovering the joys of being a Golden Retriever, like mealtimes, treats, and playing with toys—especially his favorite squeaky frog. He loves playing with his five foster siblings and is learning fetch, though he’s still working on returning the ball. While potty training is a work in progress, Jack is making good progress. He's a sweet, eager-to-please dog ready for a loving forever home.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! 🍀🍀🍀 Today is an especially lucky day for Clover—she’s not just finding a home, she’s finding her fur-ever family. As her foster, I didn’t discover a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, but I found something even better—a four-legged, tail-wagging treasure.

Clover has become a beloved part of my home, and I can't imagine life without her. Her big sister Cleo loves her, and they’re inseparable, playing together nonstop. Cleo has even started teaching Clover, including the art of hole digging!

Though it was totally unplanned, Clover (now known as Chloe) is the perfect fit for our family. Sometimes, as a foster, you realize the dog you’re caring for is meant to stay forever. 💚🐾

Bailey, a 10-month-old Golden Retriever, faced a heartbreaking ordeal when she was struck by a car after escaping from her yard. Unable to afford her medical treatment, her owner made the difficult decision to surrender her. Thankfully, volunteers quickly stepped in, transporting her to UW Veterinary Care, where surgeons repaired her jaw and extracted damaged teeth. After surgery, Bailey was discharged and is now recovering in a foster home, receiving love, care, and medication. Despite her struggles, her sweet nature remains, and she’s showing progress toward a full recovery.

Gracie is flourishing in her foster home, surrounded by her loving canine companions. The great news? She’s currently infection-free! However, we’re still working to find the perfect medication to manage her occasional urine leakage. Since any lingering leakage means her bladder isn’t fully emptying—creating a risk for infection—we’re determined to find the best solution to keep her happy and healthy. Stay tuned as we continue to fine-tune her care!

Our Story

Surrendered dogs are sometimes abandoned, mistreated or neglected, surrendered by a shelter, and sometimes a loving family that can simply no longer care for their golden. Taken in by GRRoW volunteers, every golden is provided with medical care if needed and placed in a foster home. Each dog is carefully evaluated in order to match it with a new family. Even as each dog is placed in a new home, we offer support to smooth the transition.
