We couldn’t find the queen so we abandoned the split. We added a second honey super on the larger hive and a second brood box on the smaller one.

We have a queen cell! It’s been a little over a week since we split the hive so I went into the new colony today and so far, the split has worked! We have a capped queen cell (the long, lumpy cell toward the bottom of the frame)! Hopefully in 2-3 weeks we’ll have a mated, egg laying queen!
