We currently adopt within the continental US (subject to applicable regulations for the import of dogs) and offer free transport by air (in cabin) or road to most out-of-state adopters. Is Kenzo adoptable? At this point, after almost 7 years in rescue, he will likely not go anywhere. While we say "never say never", the right-fit adopter for him has not come along (yet?) and Kenzo has repeatedly shown that he is not one who trusts easily. After all he has been through, and given that he still carries trauma, that FM feels that he might be better off staying in rescue as in-house counsel.

As this year winds down, we are taking a quiet moment to reflect on just how much your kindness and generosity have meant to our little rescue.

It has been a rough year in many ways, but because of you, the dogs in our care stayed safe, loved, and provided for.

From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU for being the steady support that keeps us going for them. We appreciate you. 💚☘️

Merry Christmas to everyone! Here are a few of the 1776 crew chilling out after a hearty dinner. Santa Paws is coming in a few hours. 🎅🎁

💚~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~💚

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
With no thought of the DOG filling their heads;
And mamma in her kerchief, and I in my cap,
Knew he was cold, but didn’t care about that.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Figuring the dog was free and into the trash.
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the luster of midday to objects below,
When what to my wandering eyes should appear,
But Santa Claus—HIS EYES FULL OF TEARS!
He unchained the dog, once so lively and quick,
Last year’s Christmas present, now so thin and so sick.
More rapid than eagles he called the dog’s name.
And the dog ran to him, despite all of his pain;
“Now DASHER! Now DANCER! Now PRANCER! Now VIXEN!
On COMET! On CUPID! On DONNER and BLITZEN!
To the top of the porch! To the top of the wall!
Let’s find this dog a home where he will be loved by ALL!”
I knew in an instant there would be no gifts this year,
For SANTA CLAUS had made one thing quite clear;
The gift of a dog is not just for the season,
We had gotten the pup for all the wrong reasons.
In our haste to think of giving the children a gift,
There was one important thing that we had sadly missed.
A DOG SHOULD BE FAMILY, and cared for the same!
You don’t give a gift and then put it on a chain!
And I heard him exclaim as he rode out of sight,
“You were not given a gift—You were given a LIFE!!!

Would the good people who are friends with Patricia (Thompson) Saltos request that she email the rescue about Kane Turner, the dog she co-adopted in 2019, please? We need to locate the dog in question for a required update. She is the admin of the secret Facebook group, The Creep Squad.

🚨 A Statement on Harassment, Accountability, and the Cost of Rescue Work ❗️

**TLDR: A read-only group is linked in the comments with evidence of the harassment I endured. I will continue to update.**

Last June, a well-known animal rescuer, Mikayla, took her own life. For years prior to her death, she had been subjected to sustained harassment, stalking, and public attacks by a group of individuals who, by any objective measure, contribute(d) far less to animal welfare than she ever did, if anything at all. These individuals engaged in relentless online harassment, smear campaigns, obsessive monitoring of her activities, and invasive commentary on her personal life. The cumulative effect of this abuse became unbearable. She was a mother to a young child, a spouse, and a daughter. May Mikayla rest in peace.

‼️ I am the founder of this rescue. I am now choosing to disclose evidence of the harassment, stalking, and coordinated smear campaign that I personally endured over a number of years at the hands of individuals who were entrusted with significant responsibilities within the rescue and who ultimately proved incompetent and ignorant. Rather than going away, they attacked me, breached their fiduciary duties, undermined the rescue's mission and principles, and attempted to elevate themselves with defamation and intimidation.

Until now, the full scope of what occurred has been known only to a very small number of people.

Today, I am releasing emails that document this conduct. For the time being, I am withholding text messages for potential legal action.

🚨 I state clearly and unequivocally that I was harassed, stalked online, threatened by text message, and defamed through a coordinated campaign of falsehoods by the following individuals, listed without regard to role or hierarchy:

**Kristy A(s)salita Galloway**, a person who presents herself as an animal advocate under whose care a rescued Shih Tzu, Faith Galloway, became morbidly obese. I met that dog multiple times. This woman has zero rescue experience. See photos.

**Michelle Hoffman-Crowther**, who sent threatening text messages and instructed me to "stay in my lane." She lords over multiple lost and found pets groups in SE Michgan and is not known for being an active rescuer. She is a member of a secret Facebook group named "Trusted Rescue" or similar populated by many who come from rescue groups with revoked federal status and a few shelters in Michigan, and who weirdly enough, are prone to running background checks on...other rescuers who have nothing to do with them.

**Jamie Greer and Yvette Forsman**, individuals with an established pattern of engaging in gossip-driven online conflict and harassment. Jamie is on record for seeking to cancel us. Unfortunately for her, the people who give her time of day are not charity-inclined. Charity relies on a different league of individuals!

This behavior was neither isolated nor accidental.

I further state that others who aligned themselves socially and operationally with Kristy A(s)salita Galloway participated in, enabled, amplified, or supported her harassment, stalking, and defamatory narrative. These individuals monitored my activities and the rescue's public communications, including our fundraising efforts, repeated false claims, and reinforced a manufactured storyline in which I was falsely portrayed as the aggressor who supposedly could not "let go."

In reality, I had disengaged long ago and continued to focus on rescue work. Meanwhile, sociopath Kristy A(s)salita was telling the world that she was the "bigger person who had moved on". That was a lie.

On two or three occasions over the course of several years, we publicly noted that these individuals had been observed monitoring or stalking the rescue's activities, including active fundraisers. Those acknowledgments were limited, factual, and situational, and are still up.

It is also important to address a specific incident that has been deliberately mischaracterized. After prolonged harassment and repeated public posturing by Kristy A(s)salita Galloway as an animal welfare authority who disagreed with our rescue practices (she wanted us to lower our standards to meet hers), I publicly shared images of her own dog, Faith Galloway, whose morbid obesity was the direct result of her care and significantly increased the risk of multiple deadly illnesses. This disclosure was made to highlight the hypocrisy of presenting oneself as an animal advocate who wants to dictate rescue care standards while failing to meet basic standards of responsible animal care. It was evidence-based, relevant, and responsive to her conduct. It was accountability.

No evidence has ever been produced to support the allegations made against me that I harassed any of them. The reason is straightforward: None exists and the narrative was fabricated to deflect from their own conduct, which included obsessive monitoring, coordinated harassment, intimidation, and behavior that crossed into criminal territory.

Ironically, the persistence of these falsehoods served a clarifying purpose. It revealed precisely who did and did not deserve a place at my table or within this rescue community. Prior to her involvement in our Facebook group, Kristy A(s)salita Galloway was largely unknown. Through this rescue and its associated networks, she acquired nearly all of her current social circle, consisting of individuals who share the same behavior patterns, reinforce one another's misconduct, and, in my view, tolerate or excuse animal neglect. In other words, these chronically-online individuals do their best to do the least for their dogs.

Many of these individuals previously benefited from my time, effort, and goodwill in relation to their dogs. Their subsequent conduct speaks for itself.

❗️I have created a read-only public Facebook group for the sole purpose of documenting the harassment, stalking, and defamatory campaign directed at me. Additional materials and commentary will be shared there so as not to distract from the ongoing mission of the rescue.

Those who wish to understand the full context are encouraged to review the documented posts carefully.

**Why I Am Speaking Now**

The time has come.

Animal rescue is exhausting, heartbreaking work. It requires not only compassion and commitment, but also resilience in the face of constant criticism, limited resources, and the emotional toll of bearing witness to suffering every single day. Those who do this work deserve support, not sabotage.

What happened to Mikayla should never happen to anyone in this community again. What happened to her should serve as a warning about the costs of remaining silent when harassment is allowed to fester unchecked - it never truly stops.

I am speaking now because silence protects the wrong people. I am speaking now because accountability matters. I am speaking now so that others who have been targeted, intimidated, or driven out of rescue work by similar campaigns will know they are not alone.

Our rescue continues its mission. The animals we serve remain our priority. We will no longer keep quiet and tolerate or ignore coordinated campaigns of harassment directed at those who dedicate their lives to saving lives.

To our supporters, donors, and adopters: thank you for standing with us. Your trust and generosity make this work possible. We remain committed to transparency, integrity, and the welfare of every animal in our care.

Carraig, our morbidly obese mini Australian Shepherd, received excellent news from the vet this past week. He is down to 🥁🥁...26.4 lbs! He has lost 12 lbs since being in rescue. Woohoo! He is that much closer to his ideal weight of 18-20 lbs.

We are so happy with his progress. Carraig is such a good boy. 💚 He gets along with everyone, minds his business and only eats his own food.

Background: Carraig was returned to his FM earlier this year as a morbidly obese 8 yo weighing 38 lbs after 5 years of irresponsible ownership. If his story reminds you of grossly obese Faith Galloway's (Shih Tzu), it is because they are near identical.

Griana, a 10-month-old Shih Tzu puppy, is loving interacting with one of the kids in her new foster home. This child is being so gentle with her. 15/10.
