Mowhawk Mark is ready for his forever family!

Mark came to us after being left at a local veterinary clinic. We don’t have much information on his history, but this boy is very friendly and enjoys human interaction. He is a petite guy weighing only two pounds. Mark does well with other pigs and would love a friend.

Adoption fee: $35 (microchipped, dewormed, and will have a veterinary exam prior to adoption)

Everyone meet Stinky!

I saw Stinky slumped in front of a garage door on a cold night. I approached the owner who agreed to let me take him and his siblings. We are also working with him to TNR the mama kitty. Upon examination I was unsure how we was still alive. He was severely emactiated, anemic from his flea infestation, and had fly larva on his hind end due to chronic diarrhea. I worked diligently to get him hydrated and provide the best supportive care. Stinky FINALLY has solid-ish stool and has gained his spark back! His favorite things now include getting chin scratches, following Mary, and eating. 💞 Stinky also loves everyone he meets! Stay tuned for more Stinky updates as he grows and gets ready for adoption.

Poe has been adopted!

He was tiny, emaciated, and tick-ridden when he came to me this summer. I was unsure if he would pull through due to being severely anemic. Poe was my study buddy and spent many hours studying organic chemistry. 🩷

We love all piggies here, even the hairless ones! 🐹💗

I am happy we were able to open up a foster home for these two skinny pigs and their fluffy counterpart (not pictured). These piggies were dropped off at a local vet clinic. Unfortunately they are in very poor condition. With some TLC we hope to have these boys better in no time!

This is your reminder to not purchase a guinea pig as a “starter pet” for your child. Every animal is a commitment!

Period.

When you own a dog, regardless of size, breed or temperament, it’s your responsibility to keep everyone around you safe.

This includes your vet.

This is my dog Roy. He is my absolute world and I love him and would do anything for him. He’s an incredible pet to our family and a small circle of people that he’s chosen.

He’s also a prick to people he has no relationships with. Before me he had a bite hitory and he is absolutely capable of still doing it at 11.5 years of age. He’s got terrible genetics and very thin nerves.

Yesterday he needed vet care.

You know what I did?

✅ I checked reception before I walked in to ensure nobody was in our path.

✅ I had him on a short lead under physical and verbal control.

✅ I kept both of us away from the doorway until we were called in, while keeping an eye out for unexpected people ready to move if needed.

✅ I restrained him appropriately while the vets and nurses did their thing and reassured them that they would be safe not only with my words but with my actions.

✅ I didn’t get offended at their requests around safety or his cage label.

In short, I did everything in my power to help the vets and nurses do what they needed to do safely and go home in one piece.

It bugs me intensely when I see people endangering professionals who are there to help them. Your vet clinic shouldnt end up with staff at the ED because you dont believe in muzzles, restraint or responsible dog handling.

When you own a dog, you have a duty of care to ensure they do not cause damage to other people in EVERY environment and situation. You dont get to pass off responsibility.

If you have a dog who has social issues, thats ok.
Just make sure you keep your community safe 🫶

🐾 Ghost Is Ready for Adoption! 🐾

This handsome boy has been through quite the journey. Ghost came to us in April after being surrendered to an emergency clinic — he had likely been hit by a car and was facing euthanasia. Thankfully, we were able to step in just in time to give him a second chance!

Since then, Ghost has undergone multiple surgeries to repair his toes and hind end. He has a healed femur fracture, leaving his left leg shorter than the right. Ghost walks with a limp, but we believe it’s mostly mechanical.

Ghost may need some medical management in the future, but is currently happy, playful, and ready to find his forever family. Ghost absolutely loves dogs, but he would do best in a cat only household.

Thinking About “Selective Rescue”…

Lately I’ve been noticing a trend in rescue circles that’s got me thinking. Some cats seem to get all the attention- Siamese, fluffy ones, polydactyls, cats with flipped ears… the “cute” or “unique” ones. And I get it, they’re adorable and probably go home fast. But it makes me wonder: are we really rescuing, or are we just picking the easy-to-adopt cats?

I mean, the shelters are overflowing- millions of cats end up in rescues every year, and sadly, hundreds of thousands don’t make it. Are we leaving behind cats that are older, shy, or have medical issues just because they’re harder to place? And are the homes these “easy” cats go to really thinking about the cat, or just how they look?

I struggle with this. I get why rescuers might want to pick cats that get adopted quickly- it helps free up space- but is it really morally right to choose based on looks or popularity? True rescue should mean saving lives, not just the easy ones.

A perfect example: when a group of cats I was involved with was rescued, there was a line of people ready to adopt the white fluffy ones… but not a single offer for the black one. Once some more research was done, it turned out the people who wanted the cute fluffy cats weren’t even adequate pet owners- they wanted a “cute cat,” not the real responsibility of caring for a living being.

What do you all think? Is selective rescue okay if it helps some cats, or should we be thinking bigger picture about who really needs us?

Saying goodbye to fosters can be bittersweet. Lobster and Abe were a joy to foster. They welcomed me home everyday by wheeking as the front door opened. They were also the first to demand dinner each night. I am beyond grateful that they are now in a forever home where they will be showered with love!
